Hello to All!!

We are very fast heading into Fall. This year has flown by. As most of you already know, the new roof has been completed and we will certainly enjoy not having buckets this winter. Our great Boy Scout Troop has finished refurbishing and painting the wood entrance. Take notice how nice it looks now! Thank you Boy Scouts and Leaders for a great job.

The Gazebo project is also progressing. The Gazebo should be here soon. The whole back forty is looking good! Everyone really enjoyed being outside on "Hot August Sunday". This was a great event for our Lodge. We appreciate all the people who supported the Lodge for this event.

On Wednesday, August 17th, we had our District Deputy Byron Pierson's visitation. There was great attendance for this event, both from our own members and other members in the district. At this event we initiated seven new members: Kimberley Everson, Marilyn Hendrickson, Sharon Durham, Marni Luchsinger, Robert Panak, Robert Stemmer, and Allison Taylor. Please welcome them to the Lodge.

The weekend of August 19th and 20th was our District Jamboree in Petaluma. Napa Lodge would like to thank Pam Orris so very much for creating our beautiful basket that was auctioned off at the Jamboree dinner. It was awesome and a hot item that day. Thanks Pam!!!

As always, please let me know your questions or concerns.

Fraternally, Judy Fisher, Secretary

Activities Report for September 2016 Hot August Sunday: This was one of our best Hot August Sundays. I am guessing the turnout throughout the day was approximately 200+. The beautiful cars and bikes numbered about 40. Our ER Lindsay Wanagal was our car cashier. Judging cars was Mike Biggs, Tony McGrath and Mike Robinette. Motorcycle judge was Rich Simmons. The 1st place car was D. Horton, 2nd place Leanne White & Peoples' Choice and 1st for motorcycles was Don Parrish, 2nd place went to Cathy Narlow. Bobbie Witten was our door greeter for the day. The donated desserts numbered about 25+, and every dessert sold, all desserts were beautifully displayed and I am grateful to all the bakers. This was a tasty and profitable fundraiser. We had 10 chili entries this year. All the chili's were delicious and we know that because all the chili pots were empty, not all entries won a trophy but they sure made a lot of chili tasters happy. Our winners were 1st Tailgate Chili, 2nd Mama's Chili and People's Choice was Poco Loco. The lodge would like to thank all the chili makers for their time and efforts. Also, thanks going to our chili judges, they made their decisions carefully. Judging this year was Gene Beckle, Rich Simmons, Dave Mellow, Ron Mattioda and Christy Taylor. Good job judges! BBQ chefs were Dave Silveira, Dan McCabe, Dick Geide, Jimmy & Karen Day. The chefs served over120 Hamburgers & 80 Hot Dogs in other words they sold out. I hope everyone got to taste Emma's wonderful Root Beer Floats and the Adult Root Beer Floats were a big hit thanks to the efforts of Becki. Our cashiers for this event were Mary Mattioda, Krissy Carr, & Anne Crane, thank you ladies. Dunk Tank dunkies were Bill Sollows and Bob Fraid, two fun guys and very good sports. Ron Kilby managed the Bocce courts and he had winning plaques for 1st & 2nd. I received great help from The Fishers, The Biggs, The Sollows, The Haslets, The McFarlands, The Whites, The Parrys, Sandy Brimbank , Dan Orchid, Joe Geremia, Elvis, more thanks toto all the folks who helped decorate, clean up, and put up Pop-Ups. As you can see it takes a small village to put on this event. Hope to see everyone at the Car Show, Chili Cook Off on August 6, 2017. DDGER Visit: The DDGER Byron Pierson visited Napa Elks #832 on Aug. 17th. We had a wonderful turnout for Byron's visit, approximately 100 in attendance for dinner. Many members, District Dignitaries and District officers were at this visitation. We started with an Officers meeting and followed with a delicious Prime Rib/Salmon Dinner. The lodge meeting was well attended and we welcomed 7 new members. Reports on Western Night/Purple Pig, Burgers & Bocce, Oktoberfest in the

next newsletter.

AS LONG AS THERE ARE VETERANS, THE BPOE WILL NEVER FORGET THEM The Past Exalted Rulers of Napa Elks Lodge along with the lodge Veterans Service Committee are developing a

“Veteran’s Wall of Honor” in front of the Lodge beneath the Gold Elk west wall. COME DOWN AND SEE IT!

The “Wall of Honor”, a project conceived by PER George “Bus” Langdon features plaques with service

veteran’s names, branch of service and service assignment(s). Friends or family members of deceased veterans

may secure an application to be submitted in honor of their loved ones. The cost is $50 per plaque.

APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE IN OFFICE.

This project is dedicated to honoring those who have served to protect their country in a “public” way. Elks

members, visitors to the lodge and others will be able to view and pay tribute to those who served.

THE ELKS EAR

If you missed "Hot August Sunday", plan on coming next year! I know everyone enjoyed all parts of the

day. The car show was the best we have had yet! The dessert auction was so large you gained weight by

just walking through. The BBQ was working overtime; we used three cases of hamburgers and many

hotdogs! The bar was featuring a drink called a Root Beer Float that should have been limited to one,

wow!!. The Dunk Tank was a big hit; maybe next year if the drought is over we can put water in it! But

the most impressing of all was the amount of Lodge participation. Many new faces showed up to

volunteer. This Lodge can only function if members participate.

The Gazebo is on its way! Again, we will need many hands to help so we can have something we can all

be proud of. Also plan to adopt a plant for the landscaping; more on this soon!

Our District Deputy's visit was one of the largest turnouts our Lodge has had in recent years. We had many

other Lodges attending and many of our Lodge members attended also. All of our officers were present

and committee chairman all had reports to turn in. Looks like we can stay in business for another year.

This is our Lodge and we are having fun. Don't be afraid to ask "WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP", believe

me there is plenty of work to go around.
