I am so proud of what you have accomplished this year and am pleased to announce to you that we have reached our goal for Children’s Miracle Network. In 2008, we raised $75,631.37 for the Children’s Miracle Network benefiting the All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. I would like to especially thank all of our Register Operators and Customer Service Managers that were so diligent all year long. Without you- we could not have done it! Our success came from a very simple process that I want to make sure that we continue in 2009- the 5 Step Checkout Process. 1) Greet the customer with enthusiasm at every transaction. 2) Smile and have a pleasant expression while working with the customer. 3) Ask the Customer if they are interested in applying for a Walmart Credit Card. 4) Ask the customer if they would like to make a donation to CMN. Show gratitude if they do and tact if they do not. 5) Thank the customer for their continued business.

I know if we continue to follow these basic steps- we will be successful beyond imagination- not just in the workplace, but as leaders in our community

Thanks again for everything that you do for our store.

Last May Glennah Mantana visited our store. She made a promise that if we meet our goals for Children’s Miracle Network- she would come back and perform for us at the end of the year. Well, we sold thousands of CMN balloons, auctioned off a lot of things, had cookouts, managers had pies and water balloons thrown at them, we sold dozens of new name badges, had visitors like Mr. Incredible and Glennah- and in the end we raised over $75,000! We collected the most money out of every store in the state! It’s all thanks to you- the associates! Glennah lived up to her promise and came back last Friday with her friends Rayona and Davine. It was one of the funniest events I think our store has ever had- and I think we should all really thank Ray, Dave, and Glenn for being so brave and doing such a crazy stunt to show how much they appreciate us. If you missed the show- or if want to experience it again- we are selling DVD copies for a $5 donation to CMN. Come join Glennah, Rayana, and Davine in their action packed concert! Plus see their funny tour of our store after the show! DVD quantities are limited- once there gone- there gone! Get yours before it’s too late! Please see Marilyn (Safety Coordinator) or Gabor (Support Manager) for your copy.

SpotSpotSpotSpot----Light AssociateLight AssociateLight AssociateLight Associate This is Glennah’s first retail job. Before Walmart- she was a Multi-Platinum selling pop star who’s hit, “I like Goatees!” went all the way to the #1 Spot on the Billboard charts. Entertaining is in her blood- her third cousin’s neighbor’s aunt once met Tina Turner, and Glennah went to a Hannah Montana concert. When not performing- Glennah loves to read, go to the beach, get her nails and hair done, and take care of her two teacup Chihuahuas. Glennah’s future goals with Walmart are to help continue raising money for CMN- and she hopes we reach the #1 Spot in 2009! She would really love to perform for us again!

FUN FACT: Contrary to popular belief- pennies are not made from copper. Since 1982- pennies have been minted on zinc planchets that have been coated with a thin layer of copper. It’s costs the US Mint 1.23 cents to make a penny- and almost 6 cents to make a nickel!!!! It only costs them 3 cents for a dime, and 7 cents for a quarter- making up the difference in production costs.

Ginger’s Funny CornerGinger’s Funny CornerGinger’s Funny CornerGinger’s Funny Corner Bob was in trouble. He forgot his Wedding Anniversary. His wife was really mad! She told him “Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds and it better be there!!!” The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.
