1 .1 Introduction

Thismanualcontainstheinformationyouneedto install, operate, and maintain your MR050B Seriesdehydrator.Pleasetakethetimetoreadthismanualbeforeattemptingtooperateorservicetheunit.

This appliance is not intended for access by the general public .

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety .

1 .2 Description

MR050BSeriesdehydratorsprovidedryairforpressurizing small (up to 280 liters, or 10 cubic feet, in volume) antenna and transmission line systems.Thedehydratorsproduce-40ºC(-40ºF)dew point dry air at a nominal rate of 1.4 liters (0.05 cubic feet) per minute up to a total of 8495 Iiters (300 cubic feet) on a single desiccant canister.

Eachdehydratorconsistsofanelectrically-driven air compressor, a desiccant canister, an automatic transmission line pressure sensing system,andalarmoutputshousedinarigidmetalchassis.Itisdesignedtomountdirectlytotherack,directlyonawall,orasafree-standingunit.Thefrontpanelfeaturesacontrolinterfacewithdisplayforalarmsandpressure.Foreasyserviceability, power connections, alarm output connections,andthedesiccantcanisterareeasilyaccessiblefromthefrontoftheunit.

TheMR050Bmaintainstransmissionline

pressures between 2.0 and 3.4 kPa (0.3 and 0.5psig).Itisintendedforusewithhighperformancemicrowaveantennasandearthstation antennas.

1 .3 Operation

MR050Bseriesdehydratorsincludeacompressor,colorindicatingdesiccant,highandlow-pressure sensors, and a low-pressure alarm sensor.

Whensystempressurefallstoapresetlowlimit,thelow-pressuresensoractivatesthecompressor.Airischanneledthroughadesiccantcanister,wheremoistureisadsorbed.Theairexitsthedryingcanisterat-40°C(-40°F)dewpoint.Itisthenchanneleddirectlytoaninternal 4-port manifold.Whensystempressurereachesapresethighlimit,thehigh-pressuresensorshutsoffthecompressor.Acheckvalvepreventssystemdryairfromretreatingbackthroughthecompressor.

Ifsystempressurefallssignificantlybelowthelow-pressuretriggerpoint,thelow-pressurealarm sensor will activate an alarm contact. Thisalarmisanindicationofasignificantsystemleakoradehydratorfailure.

1 .4 Alarms

TheMR050BoffersLowPressureandExcessRun alarms as a standard feature. Indicated onasummaryalarmconnection.ThediscretealarmoptionincludesLowPressure,ExcessRunandPowerFailalarmswhichreportthroughdiscretecontacts.Alarmconditionsareindicatedonthedisplay.ThealarmsareFormCdrycontactsandhaveconnectionoptionsforNormally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) configuration.

Theexternalalarmmonitoringsystem(suppliedbyothers)isconnectedtotheterminalstriplocatedonthefrontoftheunit.Asmallslottedscrewdriverisnecessarytomaketheconnections.

Refer to Figure 1 and 2 for correct locations and colorsofthewiresonthealarmterminalstrip.

Alarm Definitions:

Summary: ActivateswhentheHighPressure(only indicated on summary contacts),ExcessRun,and/orLowPressurealarmsaretriggered.Thesummary alarm does not report Power Fail.

Power Fail: Activatesopenwhenpowerisremovedfromthedehydrator.Thisincludesturningthepoweroffattheswitch.

Excess Run: Factory strapped run time set in accordancewiththenormalruntimeforthedehydratorapplication.Selectable times are 1, 10, 30, 120 and240minutes,withthe10minuteselectionusedontheMR050Basthedefaultsetting.

Low Pressure: Ifsystempressurefallsbelowthelow-pressure trigger point (factory setontheMR050B),thelow-pressure alarm sensor will activate analarmcontact.Thisalarmisanindicationofasignificantsystemleakoradehydratorfailure.

Note: All of the alarms clear and reset automatically, but can be manually reset in the display menus . However, if the alarm condition still exists, the alarm will return immediately after being reset .

Section 2 Installation2 .1 Unpacking and Inspection

Open Carton

Removethetoppieceoffoampackaging.Carefullyremovetheinstallationaccessories,manual,anddehydrator.Checkthedehydratorforshippingdamagesuchasdentsorlooseparts.

2 .2 Controls and DisplaysDefault password is 1111

Familiarizeyourselfwiththecontrolsanddisplayspriortoinstallingortestingthedehydrator.

Keypad Controls:

Advancesdisplay(scrollsahead)tothenextdisplayorprogrammodewithoutchangingthevaluesinthemicroprocessormemory.

Numerically increase displayed settings in displaywindow.Whendepressedlongerthan1/2secondscrollingwilloccuratafaster rate.

Numerically decrease displayed settings indisplaywindow.Whendepressedlongerthan1/2secondscrollingwilloccurat a faster rate.

Entersintothemicroprocessormemorythevaluesdisplayedinthewindowandadvancesdisplay(scrollsahead)tothenextprogramordisplaymode.

Usedtoallowtheuserquickaccesstothesystem event log.

2 .3 Installing the Dehydrator

2 .3 .1 19” Rack Mounting or set on shelf

MR050Bcanbemountedinstandard19inchequipmentrack,mountedtoawallwithear’sorplacedonanoptionalshelf.

2 .4 Power Connections

Confirmyourdehydratorelectricalinputmatchestheavailablepower.

Ensure an electrical safety ground is installed on thegroundstudlocatedadjacenttothepowerinput connector. (It is intended to be customer installedinthefieldtoyourhalogroundingsystem.)

2 .4 .1 AC Power

AC units can be connected into a standard 15 Amppowerreceptacleofthepropervoltageviathepowersupply.Makesurethepowercircuitis properly grounded. Two power cords are supplied, one 115 Vac American and one 240 Vac International.

CAUTION:

This unit is designed for connection to a single phase power source . Connection to a 3 phase power source will cause significant damage to internal components .

CAUTION:

Proper electrical connection is required . It is suggested a licensed electrician be contracted to connect the AC wiring to the unit, if it is connected directly to the mains . Failure to properly connect the power wires could result in a dangerous electrical shock hazard .

Note:

If the transmission lines have not been purged, continue with section 2 .7 . Otherwise proceed to section 3 .

2 .7 Purging the Transmission Line

Airinthetransmissionlinesystemmustbereplacedwithdryairtoensuresatisfactoryoperationofthetransmittedsignal.

1. Determinethetotalsystemvolume.

2. Dividethesystemvolumebytheflowrateofthedehydrator(3.0SCFH)todeterminethenumberofhoursneededforthepurgecycle.

3. Openthefarendofthetransmissionline.

4. Operatethedehydratorforthreepurgecycles.

Ifitisnotpossibletoopenthefarendofthetransmissionline,followthesesteps:

1. Connectthedehydratortothetransmissionlineandpressurizethesystem.Thesystempressureshouldreach0.5psig.

2. Wait15minuteswhiletheairabsorbsmoistureinthesystem,thendisconnectthedehydratorfromthetransmissionlineandallowtheairtovent.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 twelve times to purge thesystem.

2 .4 .2 Safety Ground

Ensure an electrical safety ground is installed on thegroundstudlocatedadjacenttothepowerinput connector. (It is intended to be customer installedinthefieldtoyourhalogroundingsystem.)

2 .4 .3 Test the Dehydrator

TurnthedehydratorONandchecktheoutputportontherearoftheunittomakesureairisflowing.

2 .5 Connecting the Alarm Outputs

Toconnectthealarms,locatethealarmoutputterminalblockonthefrontoftheunit.

(See section 1.4 for alarm location)

2 .6 Connecting Dehydrator to the Transmission Line

CAUTION:

Check the antenna and transmission line system pressure rating before connecting the dehydrator to the system .

Insertoneendofthe3/8”polytubefeedlinetubingintothecompressionfittingononeofthedehydratoroutputports.Tightensecurelywitha9/16”wrench.Becarefulnottoovertighten.Connecttheotherendofthepolytubetothetransmission line.

Section 3Maintenance3 .0 Maintenance

TheMR050BDehydratorrequiresrelativelylittle maintenance to ensure satisfactory operationoverlongperiodsoftime.Thissectionoutlinestherecommendedannualpreventivemaintenancefortheunitandthesuggestedoverhaulforevery3000hoursofcompressoroperation.

3 .1 Preventive Maintenance

TheannualmaintenanceofaMR050Bconsistsofapreventativemaintenanceinspectionofthedehydrator.

Thesetaskscaneasilybeperformedinthefieldwiththeunitconnectedtothetransmissionlinesystem.

Inadditiontotheannualinspection,acompleteoverhaulisrecommendedevery3000hoursorsooner if local conditions warrant.

3 .2 Desiccant Canister Replacement

Asthedesiccantbecomessaturatedovertime,itwillchangefrombluetopinkororangetogreen.Whenthedesiccantisexhausted,therewillbeadegradation of performance. In order to replace thedesiccant,simplyturntheunitoff,disconnectthedesiccantcanisterfromthepneumaticlines,andreplacetheentirecanister.

3 .3 Annual Inspection

Inspectionincludescheckingforlooseordamagedhoses,fittings,andelectricalconnections.Removethedesiccantcanisterandverifythattherearenoleaksinthepneumaticlines.

Warning:

Electrical Hazard! Unplug power cord before servicing unit .

3 .4 Check the electrical connections .

Checkthescrewatthepowerinputconnectortoensurethattheacpowercordissecurelyterminated.Checkthescrew-inalarmterminalstoensurethatallwireconnectionsaretight.

A loose or damaged connection may result in erratic operation and unnecessary downtime. Refertothetroubleshootingsectionifanelectrical problem is encountered.

3 .5 Check the duty cycle .

Checkthehourmeteronthefrontpaneltodeterminethedutycycleofthedehydrator.

Ifthedehydratorhasbeenrunningformorethan10%ofitsinstalledtime,checkthesystemsforleaks.

3 .6 Parts Replacement

WhentheMR050Bdehydratorunitisinneedofservice,themaincomponentsaresimplyreplaced.Thecompressor,desiccantcanister,and control module are all meant to be replaceableparts.ThepartscanbepurchasedfromCommScopeforfieldreplacement,ortheunitcanbesenttotherepaircenterforcomponent replacement.

3 .7 Unit Shutdown and Removal

InordertoperformanoverhaulontheMR050B,theunitmustbeturnedoffandremovedfromservice.Asthisisbeingdone,thelowpressurealarmmayactivatethroughareportingalarmsystem.Personnelmonitoringsuchanalarmshouldbenotifiedinadvancesothattheyareawareofthefactthatserviceisbeingperformed.Itisalsonecessarytodisconnectthedehydratordryairoutputfromthewaveguidesystemduringtheoverhaul.

Removethechassistopandfrontpanelsforoverhaul.

1. Unplugtheunitfromthepowersupply.

2. Followtheinstructionsincludedinthecompressorreplacementkit.Whenthereplacement is complete, reinstall.

3 .8 Service Restoration

RECOMMENDATION:

Verify unit operates normally and return to service.

Section 4TroubleshootingIfyouexperiencedifficultywithyourdehydrator,usethetroubleshootingproceduresdescribedbelow.

Caution: Electrical troubleshooting requires access to potentially dangerous voltages and should only be performed by a licensed electrician

Problem/Condition Solution

Dehydratordisplaydoesnotlight,unitdoesnotrun.

Ifthedisplaylightfailstolight,makesuretheunitisplugged in and power outlet is operating. Ifyoustillhavenolight,unplugtheunit,removetheunitcoverandcheckforlooseconnections.Refertothewiringdiagram for proper connections. ChecktoassurethatthefuseisOK.Checktoassurethatproperacvoltageisbeingsuppliedtotheinput.

Low-pressurealarmactivated.

Plugtheunitoutputwithfingerandobservepressuregauge.Thepressuregaugelineshouldreadapproximately0.5psigandthealarmshouldclear.Ifalarmdoesnotclear,remove cover and verify tubing and wiring connections are secure. Ifthepressuredoesnotremainconstantafterpluggingtheoutput,applyleakdetectortoisolatetheleakinthedehydrator(exercisecarewhenapplyingsolutionnottowet wiring or electronics). IftheproblempersistscontactCommScopeCustomerService.

Compressor does not turn OFF. Checkforleaks.

CommScope provides in-warranty and out-of-warrantyrepairsaswellasdehydratorandcompressoroverhaulsfromseveralRepairCenters.CoordinationoftheseservicesisprovidedthroughthenearestSalesOfficeorCustomerServiceCenter.TheCenterisalsopreparedtohelpyouwiththefollowing:TechnicalAssistanceTroubleshootingRepairsLoanerUnitsSparePartsInstallationMaterialsSystem Accessories.

6 .1 In Case of Trouble

Thefirststepyoushouldtakeiftroubledevelopsusingadehydratoristoreadtheoperatorsmanualandfollowthetroubleisolatingprocedures given in it.

Ifthestepsinthemanualdonotidentifyandremedytheproblem,thencontactanCommScope Customer Service Center for 24-hourtelephoneassistance.RecordtheModelNumber (e.g. MR050B) and Serial Number from theproductlabel,asyouwillbeaskedforthesewhenyoucall.Twomainlocationsarecurrentlyavailabletohelp:

6 .2 Initial Steps by CommScope

Whenyourcallorfaxcommunicationisreceived,theCommScopestaffwillworkwithyoutopinpointthepossiblecauseoftrouble.Ifthepressurizationequipmentissuspect,theywill:

• ask for your unit Model Number and Serial Number

• checkthewarrantystatusoftheunit

• advisetheavailabilityofaloanerunit

• provideanestimateofthecostforinspectionandrepairs,iftheunitisout–of–warranty

• faxaReturnMaterialAuthorizationSheettoyou.

6 .3 Repair Center Process

A method of Payment must be provided prior to issuing of RMA regardless of warranty status .

IN–WARRANTY REPAIR: Most CommScope pressurization products carry a warranty of one tothreeyears,dependinguponmodelnumber.Warranty details are available on our web page.Ifyourunitfallswithinitswarrantyperiod,inspection and repairs will be performed at no chargeandtheunitwillbepromptlyreturnedto you. If a warranty unit is deemed no problem foundaninspectionfeeandfreightwillbechargedtothecustomer.

OUT–OF–WARRANTY REPAIR: We will inform youwiththecostofrepairandobtainyourapprovaltoproceedwithrepairsor,ifyouelectnottohavetheunitrepaired,yourinstructionsondispositionofyourunit.Whenrepairsarecomplete, we will return your unit and invoice youfortheinspectioncharge,materialsusedfortherepairandlaborappliedtocompletetherepair.Ifyouelectednottorepairtheunit,wewillinvoiceyoufortheinspectionandfreightchargeifunitistobereturned.

LOANER UNITS:Loanerunitsareavailablefromtherepaircentertomaintainyoursystem

whilerepairsarebeingperformed.Ifyoufeelyou need a loaner, please contact us at (817) 864-4160.AP.O.forthefullvalueoftheunitmustbeissuedpriortoshipment.AlsocontactuswhentheloanerisreadytobereturnedsothatwecanissueaNEWRMAnumbertoidentifyyourreturnandcreatetheappropriatecredit to your account. Damages to loaner will bedeductedfromtheP.O.

PACKING INSTRUCTIONS: Pack your unit securelyforshipmenttotheRepairCenter.If you received a loaner unit, we suggest you usetheboxandpackingmaterialstoreturnyourunit.Otherwisewehavefactorypackingmaterials available for a nominal fee.
