This exciting new scheme will bring a family orientated 21st Century leisure concept to the long established resort of Weston-super-Mare. The original 1937 open air swimming pool, which was rebranded in the 1980’s as Tropicana, finally closed in 2000. This was due to its inability to withstand the competition from airline package holidays “to the sun”. Since the site closed a number of alternative redevelopment proposals have been suggested, but it was this Henry Boot scheme that was chosen, by North Somerset Council, following a limited competition. Tropicana Weston-Super-Mare leisure. The scheme will comprise a 96 bed hotel, 20 lane bowling, 8 screen multiplex cinema, restaurant/retail units and a four level waterpark with pools and flumes. A planning application has been lodged in February 2008 with an anticipated start on site in Autumn 2008.
