MORPHIUS RECORDS IN CONJUNCTION WITH SUN KING RECORDS IS PLEASED TO PRESENT CLAUDIUS LINTON “Roots Master: The Vintage Roots Reggae Singles” Volume 1 VINYL LP OVERVIEW With a toot of the horn, Bob Marley pulled his BMW off the rutted Jamaican road and hopped out to warmly greet a Rasta sitting on the grass. Onlookers gaped as the singer who made reggae a global sensation sat down on the dusty roadside to talk and share a laugh. Who was this man who could readi- ly command an audience from the island’s favorite son? It was Marley’s old Trenchtown friend Claudius “Kingman” Linton, the roots reggae singer known around Kingston for his soulful voice and knack for a killer melody. As young teens, Claudius, Bob, Peter Tosh, and other future reggae stars had all learned to sing together from the “father of reggae,” Joe Higgs. Along with singing partner Cecil Hemmings, Claudius fronted groups like The Angelic Brothers & The Hofner Brothers, rising with Tosh, Marley, Derrick Morgan, Toots & the Maytals and other reggae greats from early 60’s ska singles to the crest of reggae’s ‘70s heyday. He produced a dozen sin- gles, reaching the top of the Jamaican charts with his No. 1 hit “Crying Time” in 1976. Eight years of classic roots reggae singles followed, with a backing band drawn from the biggest names in the business: Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, Ansel Collins, Earl “Chinna” Smith, the Soul Syndicate, the Upsetters. After recording “Reduce The Arms Race” with famed reggae producer Jack Ruby in 1984, Claudius disappeared from the scene for more than 20 years. Original copies of his vinyl singles can trade hands for hundreds of dollars today. Now, to coincide with Claudius’ first ever tour of the U.S. (Kingman & Jonah performing 25 shows, featuring reggae keyboard legend Ansel “Double Barrel” Collins, along with Isaac Haile Selassie, including multiple dates around SXSW), Sun King Records is happy to present the first-ever collection of Linton’s essential classics, specially re-mastered for vinyl. Vinyl LP also includes digital download card with 16 tracks. Check out www.ReggaeMastersLive.com for tour dates and venue details. SELLING POINTS • 16 track digital download card includes never-before released material. CLAUDIUS LINTON “Roots Master: The Vintage RootsReggae Singles” Volume 1 VINYL LPFans long demanded a CD of this never-before-reissued material, and “Roots Master: the Vintage ReggaeSingles” was finally released to tremendous critical acclaim at the end of 2007. Reviewers worldwide cameout of the woodwork to give this legend his proper due:

“‘Roots Master’ brings this veteran roots singer, originator of the vocal style popularized by reggae greatsCulture and Burning Spear, the recognition he truly deserves... It’s simply a joy to listen to such gems fromthe past.” -Reggae-Vibes.com, the Netherlands

“One of reggae’s greatest singers has resurfaced with a superb collection… ‘Roots Master’ has all his greatsolo records on it (and) hearing these records all together is like rediscovering an old friend. Linton’s voice isas distinctive and crisp as the late Joseph Hill’s or the great Winston Rodney’s and his songs – backedin the studio by the Soul Syndicate, Jackie Mittoo and other Jamaican greats — are second to none.Absolutely one of the best new releases of classic material to show up in years...Top ranking and rating foranyone seeking something truly great and previously unheard from reggae’s peak era. If you still check forvintage Spear or Culture, say, you won’t be disappointed.” -The Beat

Claudius returned to the studio with his new band Kingman & Jonah, whose “Sign Time” CD was releasedin 2008 to similar acclaim. “If there’s any rust on Linton’s game, it isn’t apparent on ‘Sign Time.” (Reggae-Reviews.com) “Surprisingly spry... Linton is a living Jamaican reggae pioneer, and 22 years has done zerodamage to Linton’s mellifluous vocal chords, full of butter and syrup still. And the all-star oldster band assem-bled for Marley’s old Tuff Gong studios ... ensures that ‘Sign Time’ has a vintage feel/touch/throb despitecleaner ‘00s recording.” -The Big Takeover
