Each year, the Office of Student Counseling provides services to undergraduate and graduate students at TAMUG. The Office is staffed by licensed counselors and the services rendered to students are free, voluntary, and confidential. The Office staff is dedicated to assisting students in their pursuit of personal and academic growth, to help students gain a better understanding and appreciation of themselves, and to supporting students as they make important decisions about their lives.

Who said college was going to be easy?

When Sea Aggies speak of "The Other Education," they are talking about leadership training, clubs, intramurals, traditions, student government and all the other aspects of the TAMUG experience. Many elements converge to create the campus atmosphere: the student newspaper (NAUTILUS), the drama club, and more than 60 student organizations, which include academic, professional, community and campus service, religious, and just-for-fun student groups.

“Wherever I am, whatever I am doing, as long as I live I will bleed Maroon.” - Dr. Robert M. Gates,

US Secretary of Defense

The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for the social, moral, and intellectual development of TAMUG students through their involvement in student organizations, leadership activities, recreational sports, and other co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Student Affairs also oversees housing, judicial services, multicultural services, counseling & career services, and residence life programs as well as advises student organizations about program planning, university rules, risk management and the function of organizations to students throughout their college career. Furthermore, they allocate funding for eligible student organizations and aid in campus wide events such as Aggie Muster, Maritime Ball, Family Weekend, and Spring Fest. In addition to providing students an avenue to participate in several club activities, Student Affairs is also responsible for dispersing football tickets and ordering the highly honored Aggie Ring! The staff of the Division of Student Affairs encourage all students to take advantage of their many opportunities available through “the other education” activity programs. 1. The Office of Student Diversity Initiatives has been working with the International Student Committee lead by Dr. Antonietta Quigg - Professor of Marine Biology at TAMUG, Professor of Oceanography at TAMU, and Associate Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies. The committee’s goals are to establish an effective timeline of what occurs with undergraduate/graduate international students from application to graduation. After establishing said timeline, our committee plans on educating the TAMUG community by providing information (i.e. training and website) and point persons in charge of different areas of engagement.

2. The Office of Student Diversity Initiatives is leading a marketing campaign (via committee) gearedtowards TAMU Engineering students residing at TAMUG. E=MC2 means “Engineering = My Campus 2(too)”. The big idea behind this marketing campaign is to have TAMU ENGR students become activemembers/students at TAMUG. Specific ideas would be to let these students know that they ARE a partof campus and that they don’t have to wait a year to be an Aggie. Furthermore, they can start workingon leadership development now and become more involved. Posters are scheduled to be up in variousbuildings around campus at the start of Fall 2017.

3. The Office of Student Diversity Initiatives, liaison for TAMU’s Regent Scholars program for TAMU ENGR students residing at TAMUG, will be working with TAMUG’s Office of Academic Enhancement (ACEN) in building a more robust program for first generation students. TAMU’s Regents' Scholarship is designed to assist first-generation college students in achieving their educational goals at Texas A&M University. The mission of the First Scholars program (ACEN) is to serve Texas resident, First Generation, incoming freshman students in the transition to the university by offering research based, multilevel support to address the unique challenges of first generation students. The program is designed to be a living learning community utilizing staff/faculty mentors, lectures/workshops/events,and leadership programs.

4. Campus Pride Index is used for prospective students to find out how LGBT/ALLY friendly a campus is.TAMUG’s ranking has increased – we are one of 15 campuses on the index. Each year our rankingincreases because of the invaluable work the Office of Student Diversity Initiatives has done to makeour campus more inclusive.

5. Health Equity Summit: Our Office’s Diversity Education Specialist will be attending the Health Equity Summit, representing Galveston County. Our staff member was chosen to be 1 out of 2 people from our county. The mission of this summit is to increase communication, resources, outreach, and awareness of HIV in higher education.
