The Lord God says this: Look I am going to send my messenger to prepare a way before me. When the day came for them to be

purified as laid down by the Law of

Moses, the parents of Jesus took him

up to Jerusalem to present him to the

Lord- observing what stands written in

the Law of the Lord: Every first-born

male must be consecrated to the Lord-

and also to offer in sacrifice, in

accordance with

What is said in the Law of the Lord, a

pair of turtle-doves or two young

pigeons. Now in Jerusalem there was a

man named Simeon. He was an upright

and devout man; he looked forward to

Israel’s comforting and the Holy Spirit

rested on him. It had been revealed to

him by the Holy Spirit that he would not

see death until he set eyes on the Christ

of the Lord.

Prompted by the Spirit he came to the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God: and he said:

“Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace, just as you promised; because my eyes have seen the salvation which you have prepared for all the nations to see, a light to enlighten the pagans and the glory of your people Israel.

Prayers ofof the FaithfulPriest: ”My eyes have seen your

salvation, which you have

of all peoples”. God’s powerful

words nourishes us on the feast

of the Lord’s Presentation.

We now turn to our God for

1. For joy in our Lord’s presence.

The prophet Malachi promised

that the Lord would come among

the people. May we welcome the

Lord’s presence among us,

challenging, correcting and

comforting all the people of God.

2. For trust in Christ our High Priest.

Jesus is the High Priest, our brother

who shares our flesh and blood. May

we grow in faith each day, trusting his

power to save us from the slavery of

3. For a desire to be consecrated to

the God. The holy family obeyed the

traditions of their people, presenting the

child in the Temple of the Lord. May we

be aware that we too are a consecrated

people, called to God’s service, for the glory

4. For openness to God’s purposes.

Jesus is declared by Simeon a sign that

will be rejected. May we be open to

God’s mysterious purposes, looking for

the gift of wisdom to live always by the

THE MYSTERY OF FAITH

All: When we eat this Bread and drink this Cup, we proclaim

your Death, O Lord, until you come again.

Resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us

worthy to be in your presence and minister to you.
