PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION: The Archdiocese ofWashington will take up the Peter’s Pence secondcollection today, supporting Pope Francis in hischaritable works. In the Jubilee Year of Mercy, thecollection is an opportunity to join with the Holy Fatherand be a witness of charity to our suffering brothersand sisters. The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken upworldwide to support victims of war, oppression, natural disasters, and others in need of assistance. Inresponding to those who are suffering, Our Lord teachesus, “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of theseleast brothers of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).Please be generous in today’s collection.

Dear Mother Seton Family,

Two weekends ago we witnessed yet another tragic eventin the killing of 49 people in Orlando and the wounding ofjust as many more. What is our reaction to this kind ofsuffering? We want answers and we want solutions. Wequickly politicize this one way or another proclaiming oursas the answer to something incomprehensible. But thereare no easy or quick fixes for this. What is harder, butnecessary, is to stay in front of such an event allowing ourhearts to feel the depth of such a tragedy – in thepresence of the Mystery. God only allows us toexperience such heartache because He has felt it with usand before us. His answer is the Cross. Below I share anote from a friend of mine in New York City. May we alljoin these young men, on our knees before God, andexclaim that “God is still good.”

Fr. Lee

WITNESS—The human heart cannot help but cry out tothe Infinite in front of such a tragic offense against humanlife, as occurred last weekend in Orlando. The pain andsuffering felt by those who were close to at least one ofthe nearly fifty people who were killed, as well as bystrangers, moved them to keep vigil at sites across thecountry to mourn their loss and to console each other. One of the most notable vigil sites is outside of theStonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Iproposed to a few friends that we go together to pray theAngelus, for the repose of the souls of those who werekilled. In front of piles of roses, handmade posters, andcandles with images of the Sacred Heart, the BlessedMother, and St. Jude, we found four men who werekneeling to pray the Our Father. One of these men’s brother was killed in the shooting, andasked his friends to accompany him in prayer. His grief, while visibly was taking a toll on him, became an invitationto all of the bystanders as he very freely and openly toldus about his brother and the pain of the unexpectednessand immediacy of his death. “But God is still good!” heexclaimed. What is it that moves man so quickly to prayer, almost as if instinctively, in front of such a piercingexperience of suffering? The presence of a desire forauthentic meaning to make Itself known and reveal Itselfpermeated all of Christopher Street. The flames of the candles seemed as if signs thatreminded all of those keeping vigil, that man’s heart, hisdesire for true love and mercy, will always triumph. Thathis infinite need for fulfillment and meaning will alwayssurface, despite any human or ideological attempts totrivialize it. I left Christopher Street with a prayer ofgratitude in my heart, both for this beautiful andreassuring sign of the ineradicable desire that determinesman’s being, and for the faces of my friends throughwhich He who answers to this desire makes Himselfknown.

PARISH SUPPORT

Offertory Collection:June 19, 2016 $19,893.00

Did you know that June 20th, - the first day of summer – isNational eGiving Day? Mother Seton Parish can take particularjoy in this celebration, as the response to eGiving in our churchhas been very good.To build on this success, I am setting a National eGiving DayChallenge. My goal is for Mother Seton Parish families to putenvelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make theswitch to eGiving. This is especially important in the summermonths, when many families may be out of town someweekends, and Mother Seton Parish does not receive theirenvelopes. It’s easy for people to forget to catch up oncethey’re back, and our weekly offertory can fluctuate as a result-making it harder to predict how much we will have to sustainour year- round ministries. The more families who welcome the beginning of summer bytaking this National eGiving Day Challenge, the more consistentand predictable our offertory will be month after month - andthis will help us do even more to spread Christ’s lovethroughout the community. Being part of this challenge issimple: Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code:MD424.Thank you for your continued support of our parish family withyour time and talents as well as treasure!

God Bless you,

Fr. Lee

More ReflectionsAlong A Country Road

by Father Joe Breighner

“Minute Meditations for Everyday”

Excerpt from Fr. Joe Breighner’s “More Reflections Along A Country Road”

Good Example The most effective way we share our scriptures, our understanding of the sacraments, our prayer life and our image of God, is by how we live. As someone has profoundly put it, “People may not always believe what you say, but they will always believe what you do.”

So our effort is to live as Jesus asked us to live when He gave the criteria for entering the kingdom of God, “I was hungry and you fed me; thirsty and you gave me something to drink; naked and you clothed me; in prison and you visited me; a stranger and you took me in”

Put simply, the best way to show our belief in God is through the sermon of our lives.

When we treat the least person the way we treat God, then we become believable and God becomes visible.
