PARISH PICNIC SUNDAY, AUG. 4 We are planning a parish picnic for Sunday afternoon, Aug. 4 to mark the 37TH anniversary of the founding of our parish. Sign-up sheets in the foyer!

Page 3: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church · 2019-09-18 · St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 7601 N. Grandview Avenue Odessa, TX 79765 Phone: 432-367-4657 Fax: 432-367-0700 Parish

Priest Pension Plan Collection On Aug. 3-4 we will have a special collection for the Priest’s’ Pension Plan. The diocesan plan is currently underfunded!!! Fourteen priests are currently retired and in 10 years, the number will increase by 5. Some of the retired priests are still working as pastors and assistants and they are not quite the burden on the plan as they could be! None the less, please be generous in caring for those completely retired, ill and infirm.

Please Endow a “choir chair”? Thanks to our new choir director, our choirs – that’s plural! -- are growing, and hence the need for more choir chairs. We hope to match the oak ones already in use. If you would like to donate a chair, please send a check for $300 to St.

Elizabeth Ann Seton. Names of all donors will be placed on each chair. We actually need 30 chairs for the choir warmup room and the loft.

Thinking of Becoming a Priest? God calls some young men to be priests. Are you one of them? The Diocese of San Angelo invites you (10th grade and older) to a Discernment Retreat on August 2-4. Discernment through pray, talks and activities will help you learn what God is calling you to. The retreat will be held at Holy Family, Abilene. Contact either Fr. Mark or Fr. Tim for applications and details and transportation to and fro. MOMS & DADS, consider talking to your sons about their vocation in life. If they are considering priesthood, please direct them to this opportunity. (Call Fr. Mark or Fr. Tim at 367-4657 to get more information about attending this retreat).

APRIL 2020 TOUR OF ITALY Fr. Mark is organizing an 11-day tour of Italy for late April 2020. We will visit Rome [papal audience], Assisi, Florence, Sorrento, Amalfi and Livorno. Masses daily. Why the sea coast city of Livorno? In Livorno we will follow the footsteps of Elizabeth Seton, an Episcopalian who visited that city in 1803/4. Her husband William Seton died tragically in Livorno. There she first encountered Roman Catholicism. At first she was amused by her Italian Catholic friends’ efforts to make her Catholic, but when she left Livorno for her native New York City several months later, she was determined to become a Catholic … a path that led her to sainthood. Trip will cost $4-5,000 per person. If interested, contact Fr. Mark at 432-202-0336.

Saga of the Lights in the Church As you know, we are having problems with the lighting in the church. The bishop has given us permission to pursue legal redress from those we believe responsible for the problem. More on this chapter later….

Pope’s July Intention The Integrity of Justice That those who administer justice may work with integrity, and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word.
