A social networking service is an online

service, platform, or site that focuses

on building and reflecting of socialnetworks or social relations among

people, who, for example, share

interests and/or activities.

You can connect withfriends, classmates,teachers and co-workers

Problem-based Scenario

Many students live in situations thatprohibit them from having access to fellow

classmates outside the classroom setting.

This prevents collaboration on classprojects and other assignments.

To prevent a faction of students frombeing excluded, the teacher may eliminate

the assignment completely

While most students are isolated

(rurally), 80% of the students polled do

have online access via the Internet or aSmart phone

Social platforms gave the students a life-

like curriculum (Beane 2006, p. 10)

Learners have turned to online distance

learning as a reliable alternative to face-to-

face education (Brady, Holcomb, & Smith,

2010).

potential to facilitate interaction,

communication, collaboration, and as a

result have been prominently featured in

discussions centering on the use of

technology to support and amplify

educational endeavors (Greenhow,Robelia, & Hughes, 2009; Veletsianos, in

Facebook has 400+ million active users

Twitter has 24+ million unique visitors per month,with 500 million tweets per day.

The global average time spent per person on socialnetworking sites is now nearly five and half hoursper month

Edmodo has 6.4 million registered teachers andstudents

If students apply the social

networking skills that they have

acquired on Facebook, Twitter, andMySpace to Edmodo for educational

purposes and communication, the

Students must have a group code from one of their

teachers to initially join-their teacher will supply the

code

Joining a teachers group

Students will enter the group code of the particularteachers group (the teacher must give the code to the

student). Then, a username and password must be

entered. An email address is optional.

You can create an assignment to post on thegroup page for them to complete

You can assign one that is in the Edmodo library

You can upload a video for them to watch andcritique or comment on the content

You can refer them to Digital Resources forpractice on a concept
