The young people participating in the 68th
annual Rotary Adventure
in Citizenship Program have several things in common:
They are all Canadians.
They are all students.
They are all leaders at their schools and in their communities.
They all crave adventure.
It is this last mutual interest that brings them together for this
program. The best adventures take you out of your comfort zone, introduce
you to new ideas and help you to learn more about yourself and the world
around you. That is what these students will experience.
They will leave Ottawa with a greater understanding of how our
country works, and an appreciation for our institutions and the importance
of working together.
I wish them the very best as they embark on this adventure.

April 29–May 2, 2018 Dear Friends: I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone participating in the 68th annual Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ottawa. This exciting learning opportunity brings together student leaders from across the country to learn about Canada’s democratic institutions and parliamentary traditions. The program offers a unique chance to interact with political leaders, diplomats, government officials and other mentors. I am certain that all participants will come away from the experience with a new appreciation for what it means to be a Canadian citizen. The program’s success depends upon the organizational skills and generosity of numerous volunteers. I would like to commend the Rotary Club of Ottawa, its supporting partners and the host families for making this initiative possible. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my best wishes for an enjoyable adventure. Sincerely,
The Rt. Hon. Justin P.J. Trudeau, P.C., M.P. Prime Minister of Canada
On behalf of Members of Ottawa City Council, it is my distinct pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to everyone participating in the 68th Annual Adventure in Citizenship Program of the Rotary Club of Ottawa, taking place in the heart of our nation’s capital from April 19th to May 2nd 2018.
I want also to take this opportunity to congratulate the Rotary Club of Ottawa, as well as the participants, dignitaries, sponsors, facilitators and volunteers, who have committed their time, energy, expertise and resources to the successful organization of this very educational and popular civic program.
As Mayor of the host city, I invite visitors to explore the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery at City Hall, as well as the revitalized Lansdowne park, its restored heritage pavilions, and new TD Place, home of the Ottawa REDBLACKS CFL team, and Ottawa Fury FC United Soccer League team.
Allow me to wish you all a most pleasant stay in Ottawa.
Sincerely,
Meilleures salutations.
Jim Watson, Mayor/Maire
Dear Adventurers: What a great pleasure it is to welcome you to the 2018 Rotary Adventure in Citizenship program. It is my belief that you and the other 199 Adventurers are among Canada's best and most promising. You have been recognized by your local Rotary Club as the future leaders of tomorrow. It is an honour for me to be the Chairperson of this 68th Rotary Adventure in Citizenship program. I whole-heartedly believe in the value of this investment being made in you by Rotary. Rotary's hope is that this will truly be an "adventure" for you. To help you better understand the privileges and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship, provide you with time to reflect on what it means to be a Canadian citizen and allow you to return home with greater insights into the shared values and diversity of all Canadians. I know that you will have fun and make many new friends during your visit with us. The organizing committee and our many sponsors have gladly worked together to plan and organize your program. Our efforts now shift to helping you to participate fully and enjoy your stay in the National Capital Region. I look forward to meeting each of you individually and sharing with you this incredible experience. Sincerely, Kateri Clark Chairperson Adventures in Citizenship Program 2018 Rotary Club of Ottawa
“Under this flag may our youth find new inspiration for loyalty to Canada; for a patriotism based
not on any mean or narrow nationalism, but on the deep and equal pride that all Canadians will
feel for every part of this good land.”
- Lester B. Pearson, 14th Prime Minister of Canada
Kateri Clark was born and raised in Saskatchewan into a family where service above self was second nature. She is passionate about connecting with and helping others find and embrace their best, true selves. Rotary has given her the opportunity to join others in service to others and, in particular, encourage young people to find and embrace their dreams. After working for years as a federal public servant in policy and regulatory analysis, international cooperation, program evaluation and project management, Kateri started her own business in 2014 with the vision of helping others embrace change, discover and express their personal and professional style, love the skin they are in, and enhance their inner and outer health and beauty. Kateri and her partner Vikas live with their three daughters (ages 13, 16 and 22) and family dog Princess.

Lhori Webster is an active Rotaractor, and fourth year student at the University of Ottawa studying Political Science and Communications. She is passionate about service, the ideals of Rotary, and the role that young people play in pushing society forward. Lhori first travelled to Ottawa to represent her home town of Kelowna, B.C. as a high school leader selected to participate in Adventures in Citizenship 2011. A proud British Columbian, she is always up for a conversation about hiking, BC, or dogs. This year Lhori was the first Rotaractor selected to sit as the Co-Chair of the Adventures in Citizenship Program. Lhori founded and served as the first President of the Interact Club at her high school, Rutland Senior Secondary, when she returned from AIC in 2011. While in high school Lhori was active in her community, and in Rotary. In her first year of university she became a member of the Rotaract Club of the University of Ottawa where she joined the executive board as the International Service Director. In addition to Rotary she is active in the Filipino-Canadian community, in federal politics, and through her sorority and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Actively involved on the University of Ottawa, Lhori has represented students on national youth organizations, political bodies, and student federation executives. She believes in building strong relationships and communities to help address large scale issues. She is passionate about the role that young people have to play in the political process. She has seen the positive influence that Rotary can have in motivating and empowering youth to get involved in their communities and push for the issues that they are passionate about.
