ter kept some Merrittonians away fromdowntown & the Friday evening light-up parade and Country Christmas festiv-ities. But the festivities went onnonetheless! And it was truly a Christ-mas wonderland.

New this year, the Festival of Trees inthe Country Music Hall of Fame build-ing, along with Santa Land, opened upthat jewel of a venue in the heart ofQuilchena Ave. Also new this year,thanks to Councillor Dave Baker and theCitys public works department, is thecommunity Christmas tree at SpiritSquare.

Gifts & goodies abounded, of course,

at Baillie House and at the Craft Fair inthe Civic Centre, to the Christmas tunesof the Community Band.

The new mayor and city council willbe sworn in this evening

, 7pm, in councilchambers. There will be a good mix of ex-perience & fresh faces, as the successfulcandidates take their places at the table.

Merrittonians were decisive in theirvote for change during last months mu-nicipal election. The landslide vote for NeilMenard for mayor means well be lookingto him for a different style & tone to gov-erning city council than his predecessor.
