    She did not

    like

    teaching school and so

    she

    went

    to

    Cincinnati with Dillon and was

    em

    ployed

    a secretaiy for adoctor

    Her

    mother

    died

    suddenly in 1931 so she returned

    to the

    farm to help Herbert

    and

    Grandpa

    After

    the death of

    Grandpa

    in 1938

    she

    returned to

    Cincinnati

    and

    began working

    asa

    practical

    nurse atDunham

    Hospital and

    cared

    for

    tuberculosis patients

    for

    over 30years

    until

    she retired

    But she never completely retired She moved toDayton

    where

    she was closer to

    her sis

    ter Mabel and brother

    Herbert

    While in

    Dayton she volunteered

    at WomanLine and Mi

    ami Valley Hospital.

    In 1994 with the loving help ofherniece Martha she moved to theretirement

    community

    of

    Bethany Lutteran Village Evenat the ageof over90 years shevolunteered to set

    tables in

    the

    evening.

    In the 1950 s she and her brother, Mark bought a cabin,named 40-1]? on Cold Springs

    Road,Oregonia,Ohio. Many

    of

    us nephewsand nieces, as wellas great-nephews and

    nfoceshave fond memories

    o f

    Eva hosting various get-togethers and visitsat this tranquil

    setting.

    Weall love her and she willbe missed. She left a wonderful legacyto us, in all the special

    things she did for us, includingthe starting of the Joseph and EmmaMcMillanreunion on

    her

    90th

    birthday in

    friend

    and aspecial aunt

    Rivers,

    Arizona. They later w ro te and

    experiences

    Rivers.

    the high points of our

    lives,

    Dexter,

    N.M.

    building holds fond memories for Mrs McMillan who attended school

    there beginning in 1899-1900and returned to teach the school from 1911-1913.The former Edna

    Kelsey

    Mrs McMillan is the daughterofCharles E. and Arilla Weller Kelsey who attendedthe

    same school in 1870.Mrs. McMillan also taught school later at Waynesville where one of

    Waynesville

    from

    Dexter New

    Mexico.

    Mrs. McMillian is a former Waynesville High School

    Principal. She served from

    924

    through the school

    year

    1926.

    At t hat ti me t here w ere 5 t eachers at the High School.

    The principal and superintendent also taught. There was

    also a normal school located in the High School Building

    where teachers w ere

    traine d. M rs. McMillian

    had

    received B.A. and Masters Degrees from Miami in

    In the

    summer

    of 926Mrs.McMillian, then single, met

    Mark McMillianwhile he was finishing his

    masters

    thesis

    Ohio

    state

    and she was there on a teaching

    assistanceship.

    She taught at

    Ardmore

    Penn. the next year and they

    were

    married and

    moved

    to Delaware to

    teach at

    Kilbourn schools. Then they moved to Middletown Ohio

    where he became head ofthe

    dept

    of Biology

    until

    thay

    moved to Rivers

    Arizona for health

    reasons.

    At Rivers they taught at a Japanese Relocation Center

    untill a position was available with the Soil Conservation

    Service.

    Upon

    retirement from theSCS after 6years, he

    served as the attendance office for the Dexter New

    Mexico School System.

    The

    McMillians

    are at home at 615 Miami.
