to?

MAY 20, 2018 PENTECOST SUNDAY

Pentecost Sunday

Come, Holy Spirit. Like a mighty wind, hover over North Korea and the U.S. Like tongues of fire, rain down Wisdom, and Right Counsel, Understanding, and Fortitude, Piety, and, oh yes, Fear of the Lord. Come, Holy Spirit. As you did at creation, Move upon the waters. Still volcanoes and earthquakes, Hurricanes and tornadoes, Violent rains And deadly droughts. Come, Holy Spirit. Heal the wounded in mind and in body. Change our hearts. Change our laws. Change our lives. Renew us, Spirit, into your servants. Then uphold us as we renew the face of the earth. How are you working to serve the Holy Spirit? Kathy McGovern ©2018 www.thestoryandyou.com

A couple of special tokens of gratitude: one -

to the Robert and Mary Melvin family for donating the

an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save

the life of someone you love: a child, a spouse, a

parent or a friend. 70 percent of out-of-hospital car-

diac arrests happen in homes. Parish member Andy

Archuleta has offered to train all that are interested

in basic CPR and first aid techniques. Once classes

can be scheduled there will be a sign-up sheet in the

back of the church. If you have any questions,

please feel free to contact Andy at 303-979-6639

Why Sing at Church? It’s good for your health!

We all like lists: 10 best cities to live in; 10 sources of anti-oxidants. And here’s another one: 7 Health Ben-efits of Singing Gleaned from a number of sources, here they are:

Singing strengthens the immune system Singing gives us a workout, exercising our lungs,

diaphragm, building aerobic capacity and stamina.

Singing while standing improves our posture Singing combats sleep apnea. Singing brings out our endorphins, keeping us

cheerful and upbeat. Singing lowers stress levels. Singing improves our mental alertness.

Some scientists suggest that singing actually extends lifespan. As Catholics we have the perfect opportunity to sing every Saturday or Sunday, with our brothers and sisters at mass. And, yes, singing in a group is even better. It seems God created us to sing, and the Church sees it that way as well. St. Augustine said, “One who sings prays twice.” That song is not just a way of passing time; It’s our prayer, our praise to God. “God inhabits the praises of his people,” we read in Psalm 22. So, let’s raise a song of praise at church and let God be there with us.
