as i tance to those player who commit tl1em elve to improving their skills. His coaching and approach to playing occer are much appreciated by tho e who come into contact witl1 him. All the boys who have attended his clinics have improved their skill level and developed a better appreciation of the game.

Week 2 aw the registration of more than 260 players which by the end of the season had climbed to 290, a record for soccer at Marist. The Committee planned for tl1e early start and grading was well organi ed and better structured than in previou year . Howev r providing coaches for 20 team wa no le difficult tl1i year and if it were not for the four Marist teacher who volunteered their services, some teams would have found the season far less rewarding.

TI1e season commenced with the usual challenges for coaches, manager , player and parents, but quickly ettled into a routine of training and aturday games.

Winning games was often a challenge to many of our teams but succe in repre enting the College in their chosen port wa undimini hed.

The continued growth of soccer throughout Canben-a by both boys and girl has created an acute shortage of referee , particularly for the 3 pm games. This problem at Marist can only be re olved by our

senior students and/or parents joining tl1e ranks of occer Referees Canberra. We need to do what we can

to help, and training courses will be announced early next year.

Aside from the normal aturclay competition the College fields an Under 15 team in the ACT chools' Bill Turner Cup. Mari t advanced ilirough the knockout series to the semi-final, losing by a "golden goal" to Daramalan. A Marist Under 11, 7-a-side team from 1999 advanced to the semi-final of the Cosmos Challenge cup played at Bruce tadium but again mi eel the grand final by a ingle goal.

Congratulations to our representative Under 15, Under 12 and Under 11 team , all of whom had their share of winning games in last July's Kanga Cup, International occer competition.

The College ha its hare of talented player . teven Arnott and Ian Waldon were both unable to play for tl1e College this year due to AI commitments but continue to play at the 11ighest level in their age group. Club players who have represented the ACT or have been invited to join elite ACT squads include Joe Bartone Under 12, Anushka Wickrema inghe and Roben Caggiano nder 15, Jeval De Jesus, John O'Brien and Adam Morgan, all Under 17.
