Mike Sorsyth and his wife Rachel are learning the art of cooking 'aloo jeera' at the Dwarka house of Rajeev Goyal, their cooking instructor. Goyal guides the couple as they struggle with the amount of turmeric to be used. The next lesson, due in half an hour, is in the preparation of bhindi (ladies' finger). The Sorsyths are part of a group of foreign tourists who are at Goyals's house to learn traditional Indian cooking. "We have always considered India as a culinary heaven and relished Indian dishes. We wanted to learn how food is cooked at Indian homes," said Mike. "Learning to cook traditional Indian dishes was an important part of our India trip. We are going back with lots of spices so that we try out Indian dishes back home," said Rachel, his wife. The group visited a local market in Dwarka to buy spices before the class began at 11am.Likewise, every other day, Rita Shinde sees a stream of visitors at around 9.30am -- foreign tourists eager to learn the art of making various authentic Goan dishes. Like Goyal's, her classes too begin with a tour of the local vegetable and spice market. Her 'students' include names like well-known culinary writer John Gregory Smith and celebrity chef Nici Wickes."Most of them come to learn Goan dishes such as Fish Recheado , Chicken Xacuti and Vindaloo. In fact, a lot of foreigners, especially from Japan and UK, come to Goa just to attend my classes," claimed Shinde who runs Rita's Gourmet in Dabolim, Goa.An increasing number of foreign tourists have been making their way to India to explore its culinary culture, giving a fillip to culinary tourism. In fact, many travel companies now offer customized tours with primary focus on food.

Bad air causing more fog in DelhiHindustan Times New Delhi, January 09, 2015Poor air quality and an overall change in weather patterns havemade Delhi more prone to fog in the last five decades.

According to scientists, the increase in the particulate matter in Delhis air has been aiding the formation of fog and smog. According to a study conducted by IIT-Delhi in 2010, fog in the Capital has increased 10-fold in the last 50 years. The foggiest years on record are 1997 and 1999. December 2014 has broken a 15-year record and was the foggiest December month since 1999. The for-mation of fog and smog depends mostly on four factors the presence of moisture in the air, low temperatures, wind and particulate matter. High moisture, low temper-ature, low wind speed and high amount of particulate matter aid the formation of fog. According to Met offi-cials, two places in the city are most prone to fog due to different reasons. One of these areas is Palam. The area near the airport is open and the formation of fog is very common there. This, along with areas adjoining the Yamuna, is most prone to fog during the winter months,

Narendra Modi to focus on boosting the rupeeKingshuk Nag, TNN | May 23, 2014, 07.25PM IST: The new Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is likely to assiduously pursue policies for strengthening the rupee. Although he is yet to confabulate with the RBI bosses, sources who have insights into his thinking aver that the value of the rupee will be central to Modi's economic policies. "The rupee reflects the strength of the Indianeconomy and a declining rupee only showcases the fact that we as a nation are living beyond our means," is what is said to be the new PM's belief. This means bolstering exports, cutting down sharply on imports and paving the way for more foreign investments.Analysts pointed out that in nationalist thinking that's the forte of the BJP, a strong rupee is an indicator of the "economic muscle" ofIndia and thus one indicator of its international prestige.

Modis Ramlila Maidan rally: Empty seats in the crowd, promises galore on stageThe aggressive publicity campaign in the lead-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modis rally ensured that people from all parts of Delhi turned up at Ramlila Maidan on Satur-day.While the BJP seemed to have fallen short of their targeted one-lakh turnout, the Delhi Police estimated that nearly 40,000 supporters came to hear Modi. The fact that the BJPs campaign ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections centre around Modi was obvious. Water bottles bearing his picture and slogan Chalo Chalo Modi ke Saath were handed out to supporters. Punctuating the saffron flags at the venue were cut-outs of Modi and his aide Amit Shah. The song, Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat was the background score to which the party kick-started its campaign.BJP leaders said almost 2,300 vehicles were used to ferry people to the rally. In the preceding week, SMS campaigns, membership drives, banners and word-of-mouth cam-paigns had been used by the party to ensure that as many voters as possible turn up to see Modi.Vikas Ahluwalia, a trader from Bhajanpura said, I have only heard Modi speak on television. I left my house early so that I get a good seat. He is a great speaker and if he does even a fifth of what he promises, it will be great.A number of people at the rally admitted that they had also participated in the Anna Hazare movement, which had led to the formation of the AAP. While I agree that Kejri-wal ditched his responsibilities, I wouldnt call him a Naxalite. Kejriwals motivations are true, but I think Modi is more capable, Aveek Dasgupta, a resident of Mayur Vihar, said. But for most Modi supporters the empty chairs were immaterial. As Modis speech was displayed on the 14 LED screens at the venue, all eyes were glued to them. If the electricity situation improves in Delhi, our lives will become infinitely better, Uttam Nagar resident Jeevan Sharma said.Mps speak Vijay Goel,Rajya Sabha MP AAP and Congress did nothing for people in unauthorised colonies. BJP is the only party which decided to regularise these colonies Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister BJP has made schemes to develop Delhi. In the upcoming Assembly elections, a landmark victory will be registered by BJP Manoj Tiwari, Northeast Delhi MP If he (Kejriwal) has guts, he should put up posters bearing my photos next to his on autorickshaws Ramesh Bidhuri, South Delhi MP As many as 1,600 buses were used to ferry people to Modijis rally. • AAP to focus on door-to-door campaigning for Delhi electionsThe Aam Aadmi Party will focus on door to door campaign ahead of the Delhi assembly election as it has intensified its bid to reconquer the national capital. The party will also focus on two aspects during the door to door campaign. First, the party will try to hardsell the achievements and the promises it made and fulfilled during its 49-day rule. Second, it will try to convince people that Prime Minister Modi, on whose popularity the BJP is banking on, won't be a solution to its city-level problems. It has also come up with a slogan, 'Delhi ka badlenge haal. Panch saal Kejriwal' (Arvind Kejriwal government will work for five years this time to improve the bad condition of Delhi). The party has decided to focus on booth level campaign and will assign 25 houses to every booth level worker. The party could not undertake door to door campaign due to paucity of resources in the Lok Sabha election and lost miserably. It had used a similar tactic, which was one of the reasons for winning 28 seats in its spectacular debut. "The booth level workers will focus on 25 houses. They will explain the achievements of Kejriwal's 49-day government. The booth level workers will also explain the fulfilled promises made by Kejriwal, like slashing the tariff of electricity and water and then comparing it with five-month rule of the Centre in the national capital " said senior party leader Sanjay Singh. "More than 1.10 lakh volunteers will spread the messages of 'what we prom-ised and what we did' and the BJP promised something, but did something else. 85% work of booth level management has been done to undertake this task," Singh said. After its rout in the Lok Sabha election, in which the party targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, its strategy misfired. Riding high on the Modi wave, the saffron party also won assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra. The party now wants to make it a localised campaign and pitch Kejriwal against BJP leaders. "The BJP may not declare its chief ministerial candidate, but we will project it as a campaign between the probable candidates like Jagdish Mukhi, Vijender Gupta, others and Kejriwal. "Our aim will be to convince people that Modi is not going to solve your city-level problem," Singh added.

Delhi election results 2015: AAP decimates BJP, Arvind Kejriwal all set to be chief minister again

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal with father, wife, party worker and supporters celebrates scripting a historic win in Delhi polls, at Patel Nagar office in New Delhi on Tuesday.

In a major political event that may well have major repercussions for the national firmament, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today proved there is much truth in the David vs Goliath story to beat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress by scripting a landslide victory, winning 67 of the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, stopping PM Narendra Modi and his, what looked like, unstoppa-ble pan-India ride to power. The BJPs humiliation was complete with its Chief Ministerial face Kiran Bedi losing in the traditional stronghold of Krishna Nagar which was long held by party veteran Harsh Vardhan. The BJP won a paltry three seats as all its veterans had to bite the dust. The party gambled on Kiran Bedi but relied mostly on Prime Minister Narendra Modis image, which still did not work for the party. On the other hand, Congress even failed to win a single seat. The scale of AAPs victory was rem-iniscent of the victories recorded by the Sikkim Sangram Party (SSP) which won all the 32 seats in the assembly while the JD (U)-BJP alliance won 206 of the 243 seats in 2010. In the 1991 Assembly elec-tions in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK-Congress alliance won 225 of the 234 seats while in subsequent elections the DMK-Congress alliance won 221 of 234 seats.AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal will now take oath as Delhi Chief Minister on February 14 at the Ramlila Grounds, the platform that launched him during the days of India Against Corruption, exactly one year after he stepped down.
