T he government has 600 census jobs available in Arm- strong County, but has only been able to find enough workers to fill 180 of them. That was the word Tuesday night from Armstrong County Complete-Count Chairman Don Palmer following a strategy meeting at the Belmont Complex. "The pay is $16 per hour for a part-time po- sition." Palmer stressed the importance of local residents completing the census. "The census deter- mines how much fund- ing our state and local governments receive based on population. Some of the programs include WIC and the children's insurance programs." Palmer said hiring must take place over the next 16 days in order to have all the workers trained. "They will start training to do door knocking to reach peo- ple who don’t respond by mailing or internet," he said. "The training lasts for two days." Palmer said there is a tent city in Arm- strong County. Those individuals do not have an address and will need a personal visit to achieve an accurate count.

CHRISTMAS PRESENTATION – “Isaiah the Prophet” will be leading the pilgrims through “The Journey” – an outdoor dramatic presenta-tion at the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church on December 6,7 & 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. There is no admission charge.
