St John’s Parish Pastoral Council met in Padre Hall on Tuesday 26 July 2016, at 7:00pm. Present were Ryan
Fowler, Fr. Ron Garry, Kelly Madsen, Beth Hand and Jack Kuhl; Laura Hand called to tell of her absence.
1. We opened with the Diocesan Stewardship prayer.
2. We approved the June meeting minutes.
3. With the reception of Bishop Gruss’ pastoral letter on the Diocesan Pastoral Plan, we spent the rest of the
meeting reading, discussing, and organizing to implement it in our parish.
4. The Council approved the text as a start of five parish ministry teams, and we will call them:
- Stewardship Formation, including adult and child classes
- Finance, including Building and Funding the Mission
- Worship, with Mass and Sacramental preparation
- Social Service, including the Stewardship invitation
- Vocations & Evangelization, with the invigorated invitation for vocations promotion from the
June workshop.
5. The parish council itself will adopt the “Reconciliation” Priority. It is about being with Jesus, who reconciles
on all levels: personal, family, parish, community, world. Before the next meeting, we committed ourselves
to praying and pondering and sharing ideas with each other. Fr. Ron will ask the commissioned Lay
Ministers and Veritatis Splendor Institute students to be leaders in these five mission teams. He will talk of
this in coming Sunday sermons and invite parishioners to be part of the mission. Josie Tardiff has begun
the pondering of the Faith Formation parish ministries in the Stewardship Formation team.
6. We elected Ryan Fowler as President, and Fr. Ron will act as recording secretary.
We meet next on Tuesday, August 30th, at 7:00pm. 7. We closed at 8pm with a Glory Be prayer.

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus,
“Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”
He replied to him,
“Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”
Then he said to the crowd,
“Take care to guard against all greed,
for though one may be rich,
one’s life does not consist of possessions.”
Then he told them a parable.
“There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.
He asked himself, ‘What shall I do,
for I do not have space to store my harvest?’
And he said, ‘This is what I shall do:
I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones.
There I shall store all my grain and other goods
and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you,
you have so many good things stored up for many years,
rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’
But God said to him,
‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you;
and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’
Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves
but are not rich in what matters to God.” Lk 12:13-21
Thus it will be for
all who store up treasure for themselves
but are not rich in what matters to God.” Lk 13:21

Come to Sunday 7-8 PM Adoration, to pray in union with the martyrs. The most recent is 85-year-old Fr. Jacques Ha-mel killed in France while celebrating Mass by ISIS jihadists. How to defeat a global terrorist organization like ISIS? The ultimate answer is through prayer! In our fallen world, we join
our hearts to Jesus who died and rose.

Brother Steward
Around the Block. Around the World
Centuries ago, we Brothers would have given the sackcloth off our backs for a Smartphone or an Ipad. We were limited in what we could do and who we could help because all poverty was local; it was just beyond the walls of our Monastery. Our
Facebook was a face-to-face look at the needy.
Our tweets were the chapel bells signaling the soup kitchen was open. Our social network was word-of-mouth usually saying, “Can you help me?” Today, we can help people around
the block and around the world. Stewardship is unlimited.
Right here at our parish we can text and tweet a prayer, a worship schedule, a ministry meeting, a plea for help, or a thanks for a good deed. We can support our church with online giving, search out local charities and foreign missions, and find volunteer opportunities. Instantaneously, we can contact our own outreach ministries. It is ironic that the “apple” in the Garden of Eden that led to damnation is the trademark for devices that can be the salvation for millions of the world's poor. The Lord gave us many gifts to use wisely. Technology
is one of them. God Bless.
Please pray for the sick and suffering: Mike Gebes, Theresa Welch, Evie Graber, Gary Chase, Mary Novotny, Dr. Reynen, Matt Hanten, Shirley Gross, Dick Speilmann, Bob Rasmussen, Jim Steele, Marie Giddings, Duane Pomham, Milton Tiper, Denny Weaver, Ken Stewart, Kendal and Kenedi Breyfogle, Freda Lawhon, Misty Brown, Lynette Singleton, David Gross, Carl Rathbun, Mike Kelly, Steve Zaiko, Spencer Young, Marilyn Tassler, Donald LeClaire, Mike Iversen, Ashlynn Fitts, Heidi Shepherd, Jean Petersen Wilson, Brian Dumas, William Anderson, John Manning, Rich Garrity, Richard Brown, Pam Patton, Terry Hughes, Kathryn Schlechter, Keri Hendrickson, Heidi Alban, Yvonne Ehlers, Steeley Moore, Eva Fischer, Eleanor Unterbrunner, Leanne Goff, Cassie Miller, Bernie Duffy, Mary Beth Moser, June Wheeler, Richard Abernathy, Mona Lierly, Kathy Fenwick, Lynae Benham, Theresa Severyn, Kaylee Jo Gallagher, Eric Buchmann, Grady Jacobson, Maddox Rowland, Eileen Hofer, Barb Brown, Cindy Foreman, Cindy Hogman, and all who ask for our special prayers.
