Bible Story Time(Ask children to sit on the carpet or at tables as you lead the

Bible story time)3. Before Bible Story Time gather the Bible, Bible story picture, and a

baby doll wrapped in a blanket (Keep the baby doll behind you until after the story.) Say: “Today our Bible story is about a woman named Hannah. She walked a long way to go to a special church. Listen to find out what Hannah did when she was at church.” Tell the story as you hold the Bible in your lap opened to 1 Samuel.

1. Show the Bible story picture and ask questions such as: “What did Hannah do at church?” Pass the picture around and ask preschoolers to point to Hannah in the picture. Talk about how Hannah is sitting. Explain that we do not have to kneel or sit of have folded hands when we talk to God. Ask: “What did Hannah ask God to give her? Did God answer her prayers?” Show the preschoolers the wrapped baby doll and let them take turns holding it. Ask: “Do any of you have babies in your family?”

2. Ask the preschoolers to repeat the Bible verse with you: “People at church talk to God.” Acts 12:5

Bible Learning Activities8:45 & 11:30 (11:00 at WH and 11:15 at Gallatin)

Puzzles & Blocks Puzzles: Give the children the church puzzles to work and help them build

churches with the blocks. As they work, remind them that they can pray at church.

For a group challenge, dump the pieces of 3-4 puzzles together and ask them to sort

them and put the “church” back together.Blocks: Using masking tape strips, make the outline of a church. Ask the preschoolers to lay blocks along the lines to build a church.

After the outline is formed, tell them to stack the blocks on top of the others to build the walls of the church. While they work, tell

them how Hannah talked to God while she was at church.

Baby Care: Using the baby dolls in the room, show

children how to care for a baby. You will also need “care items.”

Tell the children that Hannah prayed for a baby and God answered her prayer. Ask if

any of the children have babies in their homes. If so, ask how they help take care of

them.

Make a Bible Story PictureGive each child a piece of paper, the picture of the baby, and a picture of Hannah. Instruct them to glue the picture of Hannah on the page and then to color the picture of the baby. After coloring the baby’s picture, tell them to cut out the picture and glue it on the page with Hannah. Remind the preschoolers that God hears our prayers. Ask them to name what they want to pray for and then pray together as a group.

Hannah was married to a man named Elkanah (el KAY nuh). They did not have any children. Hannah wanted a baby very much. Every year

Elkanah and Hannah traveled to a special church. One time, while they were at the church, Hannah decided to pray about having a

baby. She talked to God about how sad she felt without a child. Hannah told God how much she wanted a baby. She said she would teach her baby

about God and bring him to the church.

Eli, a church helper, saw Hannah. He did not know what she was doing. He asked her how he could help her. Hannah told Eli: “I was

praying to God and telling God how much I want to have a baby.” Eli knew God would hear Hannah’s prayer.

Hannah and her husband returned home. Soon she found out that she was going to have a baby! Hannah was so happy!

God had heard Hannah’s prayer. At last, Hannah’s baby was born. She named him Samuel.

10:00 (9:30 at White House)

Make a Church PictureGive each child a piece of paper with the church outline on it. Give each child craft

sticks and glue. Instruct and help them glue the sticks on the church. Remind them that

in the story last week, the people in Jerusalem built a church. Tell them that today, a woman named Hannah went to

church and talked to God. Ask the preschoolers what else we do at church.

Puzzles of What We Do at ChurchTake the colored pictures of the “things we

do at church” and cut them into 3 or 4 pieces each. Place them on the top of a

table and ask the preschoolers to help you put them back together again. While you are working on the pictures, talk about

what the people are doing in the pictures at church. Ask them what Hannah did at

church.

Make a Whisper TubeGive each child a paper towel tube—or roll up a piece of paper like a tube and tape it. Let the children decorate the tubes with drawings or stickers. As they work, say:

“The Bible tells us to talk to God. We can talk to God at church, at home, or

anywhere.” After the whisper tubes are complete, lead them in saying their Bible

verse through their “whisper tubes.”

Talking to God Color SheetGive each child the color sheet and crayons. Tell them to color the pictures of the things they can talk to God about. While they are coloring the pictures, ask them what they would say to God. Remind the preschoolers that God hears us all of the time and anywhere we talk to Him.
