The Golden Times The Newsletter has a New Look! May – June 2016 Guest Speaker: Lynne Smith In 1985 Lynne was living with her American husband, Ross. He was working for a bank in London and I was a receptionist at a hotel. Ross was offered a job in Kuwait in the Middle East where he would be running the International department of a Kuwaiti bank. In December 1985 he flew to Kuwait for an interview and was offered the job. So in January 1986 we flew to Kuwait and started a new life. Life was very comfortable for my husband and I. Our daughter, Claudia Margaret was born in September 1988. In 1990 Saddam Hussein had been threatening to invade Kuwait, but of course no one took him seriously. On August 2, 1990 while my husband was in Germany, Iraqi soldiers burst into my house, put a gun to my head and told me I had 2 minutes to pack a bag. So with my 2 year old daughter in my arms, we were taken from our home and my life changed in a blink of an eye…. If you like the Everly Bros. you will love the singing duo Now and ForEverly! This wonderful Duo, Matt Newton and Jeff Boyet are coming to our Sr. Adults luncheon on June 2, 2016! If you have been attending LHBC for a long time, you will remember Matt from his beautiful solos with the choir and the praise team (we still miss him!) Matt and Jeff met when they were chosen to portray Don and Phil Everly in a musical performed at the Ryman Auditorium. They became fast friends. This performance also led to performances at the Grand Ole Opry, as well as being the opening act for Tim McGraw and eventually even opening for the Everly Brothers themselves. After the death of Phil Everly in 2013, Matt and Jeff created Now and ForEverly as a tribute duo. We are looking forward to singing along to songs from our younger days on June 2!
