Use Of Lighting

At 10 seconds into the advert, a mixture of low and high key lighting is used on Rowan Atkinson to show him as the star of the advert. The lighting also in a way symbolises him as being the good guy of the advert whilst the others in the advert are shown in more low key lighting. This use of lighting makes the other characters seem like they're the villains since they seem consumed in darkness.

Use Of Timeline And Location

The advert is set in feudal japan, this makes the viewer think that the product is universally liked by different countries because of how far it is stretched in terms of continents. It also makes it seem like a timeless product because of the time it is set, giving the idea that snickers bars have been liked for a long time and will continue to be for a long time.

Advert Messages

The advert gives off a lot of messages, ‘Timeline makes it seem timeless’ ‘Lighting makes Rowan seem like the good guy’. However the product also gives the message that the product changes you when you eat it. For example when Rowan ate the snickers towards the end of the advert, it showed him going from Mr bean into a completely different person just from one bite of it, as if this other person was who he really was as the tagline at the end says ‘you're not you when you're hungry’. This gives a message to the viewer that the product changes who you are back to you’re supposed to be when eaten.

Product Shots

The advert uses shot of the product towards the end from 48-51 seconds to show the viewer what the products packaging will look like. This gives the viewer the opportunity to see if the product's packaging is child friendly, as because it is a chocolate bar, children will of course want to have one as well, so the packaging needs to be shown off as child friendly.
