For contaminants caused by liquid or solid particles to pneumatic circuit and resulting damage to pneumatic components as well as damage to pneumatic components applying external pressure at the testconnector no guarantee or liability can be granted. This applies also to consequential damages of test facilities or test components.

WARNING

During leak test the connecting tube and test adapter must not be moved! There must be no direct sunlight to the VAS 6911 and to the HV-battery! The test object and the VAS 6911 must be conditioned to room temperature before starting the test! Sufficient air ventilation at the backside of the VAS 6911 must be assured! There must be no air draft!

Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments.

WARNING

Do not operate equipment with a damaged cord or if the equipment has been dropped or damaged – until it has been examined by a qualified service person.

Risk of explosions The VAS 6911A has internal parts which emit sparks and therefore must not be exposed to flammable fumes. The VAS 6911A should be operated at least 460 mm (18 inches) above the floor surface since fumes from fuels and other materials accumulate at floor level.

WARNING

Connecting non-VW HV-Modules The VAS 6911A were developed for HV batteries of the Volkswagen group. It must not be used in HV batteries from other manufacturers!

WARNING

Connect only to mains with protective conductor!

WARNING

Place the VAS6911A in that way, that you have access to the on/off switch at any time!

WARNING

Make sure that (2) Ventilation, (3) Air out and (5) pump outlet isn’t blocked and air can circulate!

WARNING

Replace power cord only by a new one with same specification, at least 0.75 mm² cross section / ≤ AWG 18!

CAUTION

The VAS 6911A may only be used within the measurement ranges stipulated in the technical data and descriptions in the operating manual. Do not perform measurements on damaged leads.

CAUTION

Cleaning Before cleaning the VAS 6911A, disconnect the power cord and the USB cable! Use only a dry cloth for cleaning! Do not use any cleaner or solvent.

1. Read all instructions.

2. Care must be taken as burns can occur from touching hot parts.

3. Do not operate equipment with a damaged cord or if the equipment has been dropped or damaged - until it has been examined by a qualified serviceman.

4. Do not let cord hang over edge of table, bench or counter or come in contact with hot manifolds or moving fan blades.

5. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a current rating equal to or more than that of the equipment should be used. Cords rated for less current than the equipment may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.

6. Always unplug equipment from electrical outlet when not in use. Never use the cord to pull the plug from the outlet. Grasp plug and pull to disconnect.

7. Let equipment cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around equip-ment when storing.

8. To reduce the risk of fire, do not operate equipment in the vicinity of open containers of flammable liquids (gasoline).

1 General Information

1.1 General Notes

The Leakage Tester VAS6911A, hereinafter called VAS6911A, can be used to check the leakage of HV-Batteries used in Hybrid or E-Cars. The VAS6911A was designed for use in Car-Shops / service stations or similar Institutions. It’s determined for professional, trained personnel.

WARNING

For contaminants caused by liquid or solid particles to pneumatic circuit and resulting damage to pneumatic components as well as damage to pneumatic components ba applying external pressure at the testconnector no guarantee or liability can be granted. This applies also to consequential damages of test facilities or test components.

WARNING

1.3 Certificate of Calibration

The manufacturer hereby declares (fig 1-1) that the device delivered with this operating manual does not require any calibration within the first 3 years after its delivery. Subsequent calibrations should be carried out every 12months.

In den ersten 12 Monaten nach der Auslieferung des Geräts ist keine

Kalibrierung erforderlich.

The Leakage Tester VAS 6911A was tested successfully with compliance

to all specified values and under the actual test procedure and left our

facilities in perfect condition.

During the first 12 month after delivery of the device, calibration is not

required.

AVL ist nach ISO 9001 zertifiziert!

The VAS 6911A may only be used in that way, described in this manual.

The housing should only be opened by service personal. See Service Information, Chap. 3.1 Regional Service partners).

The product described has been developed, manufactured and checked according to the relevant safety standards. If the safety instructions are observed, the start-up is carried out as stipulated, the device is used for the intended purpose and the recommended maintenance and care is also observed, then in normal cases there is no danger regarding damages to property or for the health of persons associated with the VAS 6911A.

The set consists of the Test Plug eUp!, eGolf, Golf GTE, A3 e-tron and the Test Connector eUp!, eGolf, Golf GTE, A3 e-tron.

2.3.1.1 Test Plug eUp!, eGolf, Golf GTE, A3 e-tron VAS 6911/3A-1, EN7583

This test plug is used for leakage testing on VOLKSWAGEN eUP!, eGolf, Golf GTE and A3 e-tron. The test plug is connecting to the traction plug of the HV-Battery.

The sealing plug is used for sealing of the “DC-Charging Connector“.

The scanner is used to scan the bar code attached to the cell modules. The canner has an USB-Type A connector and has to be connected to the VW Diagnostic system (VAS 6150A / VAS 6051B / VAS 6160).

Delivered by VOLKSWAGEN. This is a Gasbottle which is connected to the test plug. Using this leakage search system the leakage of the HV-Batterie can be found easily. This system works separately from the VAS 6911A. Only the test plug is neccessary / used. Before using this option please see the Volkswagen documentation. 3 Start-up

Take the VAS 6911A into operation. Use the Unpacking, Start-up and Brief instruction“ manual for the VAS6911A.

3.1 Firmware-Update

To do an update of the VAS 6911A firmware proceed as follows:

Start up your VAS 6911A, see chap. 3 “Start Up”.

1. Start the update program by click on

Start│All programs│DiTEST│VAS6911│VAS 6911 Firmware

Update.

2. Click the OK Button twice.

The newest program version and the actual installed version are shown.

If a newer version is available please start the update process by clicking on the

then enabled Start button .

3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

4 Operating

4.1 Preparation

Prepare the VAS6911A for operation. ( Chap. 3 „Start-up“). 4.1.1 Leakage Test

1. Start the software by selecting Start│VAS DSS.

2. Click on Diagnostic│Leaktest.

3. The start screen appears

4. The calibration of the VAS 6911A is valid for 1 year. Die Kalibrierung des VAS 6911A gilt für 1 Jahr. 30 days before the calibration interval ends you will be informed (see screen show below).

9. Please scan the barcode lable on the HV Battery. HV-Batterietype (1) and Serialnumber (2) are filled in automatically. If no bar code reader is available: Choose HV battery type from the drop down list(1) and enter a serial number(2) .

The self test hast o be executed at least once a day. The self test can be started from the menue by clicking the Selftest or the selftest done during the first leakcheck that day.

5 Troubleshooting

Fuse

If the fuse is blown up, you can exchange it by yourself. On all other malfunctions please consult your responsible Service, see document Service Information, chap. 3.2 “Regional Service centres”. Exchange the fuse:

1. Turn the VAS 6911A off by using the on/off switch on the rear front. 2. Remove the power cord from the power grid. 3. Exchange the blown fuse.

CAUTION

Please exchange the blown fuse only by a new one with same specification. Damages caused by imporper fuse exchange are not coverable by warranty!

Danger of life due to high voltages

A disorder elimination is only allowed by service personnel! Do not open the VAS 6911A by yourself, because of dangerous voltage inside!

6.1 Optical check

Carry out a regular optical check.

Examine all parts for damage (e.g. breaks) and for dirt.

CAUTION

Replace damaged parts (power cord, adapter, USB cable) in any case!

6.2 Cleaning

CAUTION

Before cleaning the VAS 6911A, switch the VAS6911A off, disconnect the power coord and the USB cable! Use only a dry cloth for cleaning! Do not use any cleaner or solvent.
