Under The Sea

On Thursday our production of "The Little Mermaid” gave two awesome previews to students in grades 7-12 and grades 1-6. It was a great kickoff to three riveting nights at the theater, which opened last night to a packed house! It was a glorious opening performance by our production, and I cannot encourage you enough to attend either tonight, March 9 at 6pm or Saturday, March 10 at 6pm. Purchasing your ticket is easy; just click the link below. You can also purchase tickets Friday or Saturday at the door for $10.

State Success!

What a season for our cheerleaders which was capped off by a tremendously successful run at the State

Championship last weekend. The Knights competed in the Division II-Small group comprised of 15 teams from

all over the State. In the first round the team finished in 3rd place, and were one of the top five teams to move on

to the final round. In that round the Knights finished in 3rd place overall, one spot better than their 4th place

finish last year. The team represented our community with so much class and spirit at the highest level of

performance. These girls have put Le Roy Cheerleading on the state map, and they are now a household name.

The team went undefeated in regular season competitions this year winning their division each time leading up

to their second straight Section V Championship before their trip to States. The entire team is back next year for

Coach Jamie Turman, and we cannot thank them enough for the time and effort they have put into reaching the

levels they have. They were impressive to watch and I can’t wait for them to go for 3 in a row next year and

compete for that exclusive state championship! Way to Go Knights!

Sunday=Funday Sunday = Funday when power tools, collaboration, and creativity are involved! With funding from the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education as well as our PTSO, our students have an authentic opportunity to project plan, create, and build a variety of pieces to improve our school. After weeks of meetings, measuring, consulting, and drafting plans, the action could finally begin to build a number of designs. Our build crew included Sophia Cacioppo, Miranda Keaton, Farryn Kennedy, Haley Scripp, and Reece Tresco, all of whom were hands-on and ready to work! Currently, the crew is working on building a bookshelf which doubles as a bench for Ms. Bradley’s room, designing wooden genre signs for Mrs. Johnson to post in our Library Media Center, and rehabbing a podium for Mrs. Netchke’s classroom. They should wrap up this set of projects in one more work day; stay tuned for the final results! Check out all the action from the build day on Twitter by following @LeRoy_Knights or @jbtechcoach. I cannot thank Mrs. Bertrand and Mr. Kleehammer enough for their efforts in creating these amazing opportunities for our students. Any student interested in working on a building project can see Mr. Kleehammer for more details; this is a great way to have fun, earn community service credit, and give back to our school!

Exciting Opportunity for Seniors We are proud to announce an exciting initiative for our seniors. The Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC), in association with the Genesee Gateway Local Development Corporation, has developed a replicable program that teaches professional (“soft”) skills for the 21st century workplace to our graduating seniors, beginning with the Class of 2018. This program (which is delivered by high school counselors, local employers, and post-secondary educators) exposes students to competencies that are most predictive of success in the world of work, college, and the military. These skills are non-curricular, emotionally based, and difficult to measure, but they are obvious when absent. They are teachable, however, and — when mastered — open doors, build relationships, and boost personal and professional productivity. The GCEDC, through numerous interactions with local and international companies, has found that these skills are lacking in the current workforce. The GCEDC believes this specially-designed curriculum will give these students a competitive advantage in the workplace over other applicants who have not had this experience. Specifically, the professional skills that will be discussed include: curiosity, branding, grit, and synergy. This program will be implemented in your senior’s Social Studies class over four days [two Fridays in March (3/16 and 3/23) and two Fridays in April (4/13 and 4/20)]. Local professionals will be sharing their experiences and offering their expertise to our seniors during this time. Students who complete the entire four-session program will receive a completion certificate at graduation. We are proud of the commitment by community leaders in government, business, and education to provide this “leg up” for our students who are about to graduate and face real world tests of their professional skills.

Good Luck, Spelling Bee Champ! Good luck to our local Spelling Bee Champ, 8th grader Megan Fuchs, who will be competing in the Scripps/Batavia Daily News Regional Spelling Bee tomorrow! The Bee will be conducted at GCC starting at 10am and will boast all the winners from Western New York. The winner will move on to the National Competition in Washington, D.C. We are very excited for Megan and know that she will represent us very well. This will be a busy weekend for her as she will also be performing in our musical, but if there is anyone who could handle it all, it is Megan! Stay tuned for updates this weekend on her performance! Good luck Megan, you got this!
