Larry R. Parkinson Director, Office of Enforcement

Larry Parkinson is the Director of the Office of Enforcement at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Mr. Parkinson has been in federal public service for over 33 years, including 20 years in the Senior Executive Service. He has twice received a Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service. Mr. Parkinson joined FERC in March 2010 as the Director of the Division of Investigations of the Office of Enforcement, and became Office Director in April 2015. Before coming to FERC, Mr. Parkinson served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Law Enforcement, Security & Emergency Management at the U.S. Department of the Interior from 2002-2010. His prior federal service includes General Counsel at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (1997-2002), FBI Deputy General Counsel (1995-97), Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia (1986-88 and 1989-95), and General Counsel at the U.S. Small Business Administration (1988-89). Mr. Parkinson is a 1983 graduate of Harvard Law School, where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He subsequently served as Law Clerk to U.S. District Judge William G. Young in Boston and worked as a Litigation Associate at the law firm of Ropes & Gray. A South Dakota native, Mr. Parkinson attended the University of South Dakota and then Northern State College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. Before attending law school, he worked for four years on Capitol Hill, as an Assistant to Congressmen James Abdnor and Larry Pressler and as a subcommittee minority staff director.
