Hemos llegado al último par de días antes de Navidad, pero en lugar de esperar para saborear la alegría y la celebración, el mundo ya está de fiesta y olvidando. ¿Cuántas fiestas ya han ocurrido en la celebración del Rey recién nacido o más para los elefantes blancos? Debido a que la Navidad se ha vuelto tan secularizada, la compra y la decoración comienzan a veces justo después de Halloween. Si no tienes tu árbol decorado antes del Día de Acción de Gracias, realmente no tienes el "Espíritu de la Navidad". Sin embargo, todo tiene su momento. No siempre tenemos que tener tanta prisa para terminar una temporada. Saboréala. Disfrútala. Contempla la temporada antes de continuar.
Muchas veces, no sabemos cómo esperar y celebrar, así que solo celebramos con anticipación. Esto probablemente suene tonto pero solo considere, para la mayoría de las familias de los Estados Unidos, ¿qué pasa el día después de Navidad? Quitan su árbol de Navidad, guardan sus luces y el espíritu navideño muere. Odio decirlo, pero ellos matan la Navidad. La temporada navideña comienza con la celebración de la Navidad, que se celebra los días 24 y 25 de diciembre. Puede que yo parezca un “Scrooge” al decirle a la gente que no cante canciones de Navidad hasta Navidad, pero el Adviento se trata de preparación y la Navidad se trata de la llegada y contemplación del bebé recién nacido Cristo.
Este es un aspecto de la cultura latina que realmente amo. Saben celebrar. Las fiestas son casi parte de la sangre hispana. Cuando celebras, celebras! El árbol permanece hasta que los tres reyes han llegado y la celebración se prolonga hasta la fiesta de la presentación. Las hermanas adoratrices me dijeron que la celebración comienza desde el momento de las primeras oraciones por la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe hasta que los Magos hayan venido del Este.
A partir de este lunes y martes, contemplemos al bebé Rey, el Hijo de Dios encarnado como un bebé. Pero no dejes que su apariencia te engañe, él sigue siendo tan poderoso como él, pero ahora se deja humillar, viste envuelto en pañales y mimado en los brazos de una madre virgen.
¿Cómo contemplas el misterio de Jesús? ¿Cómo le das la bienvenida a tu hogar y tu vida en estos días? ¿Cómo celebras su nacimiento? ¿El nacimiento de Jesús tiene primacía en tus celebraciones o es solo una excusa para la música, el baile, las bebidas y los regalos?
Si bien Jesús es la "razón de la temporada", también es la "razón por la que somos salvos, somos amados e incluso tenemos gozo". Celebremos la venida de nuestro Rey con intencionalidad.
Gracias a todas las familias que recibieron las Posadas durante este año. Que Dios les bendiga por su generosidad.

We have reached the last couple of days before Christmas but instead of wait-
ing to savor the joy and celebration, the world is already partying and forget-
ting. How many parties have already happened in celebration of the newborn
King or more so for white-elephants? Because Christmas has become so secu-
larized, buying and decorating begins at times right after Halloween. If you
don’t have your tree up before Thanksgiving, you don’t really have the
“Christmas Spirit.” However, everything has its time. We don’t always need
to be in such a hurry to finish a season. Savor it. Enjoy it. Contemplate the
season before moving on.
Often times, we don’t know how to wait and celebrate so we just celebrate in
advance. This probably sounds silly but just consider, for most families from
the United States, what happens the day after Christmas? They take down
their Christmas tree, they put away their lights, and the Christmas spirit dies. I
hate to say it, but they kill Christmas. Christmas season begins with the cele-
bration of Christmas which happens on December 24th and 25th. I may seem
like a Scrooge to tell people to not sing Christmas songs until Christmas but
Advent is about preparation and Christmas is about the arrival and contempla-
tion of the new-born baby Christ.
This is one aspect about the Latino culture that I really love. They know how
to celebrate. Parties are almost part of Hispanic blood. When you celebrate,
you celebrate! The tree stays up until the three kings have arrived and the cel-
ebration is even at times prolonged until the feast of the presentation. The ad-
oration sisters told me that the celebration begins from the moment of the first
prayers for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe until the Magi have come
from the East.
Starting this Monday and Tuesday, let us contemplate the baby King, the Son
of God enfleshed as a baby. But don’t let his appearance fool you, he is still
just as powerful as he was but he now allows himself to be humbled, dressed
in swaddling clothes and coddled in a virgin mother’s arms.
How do you contemplate the mystery of Jesus? How do you welcome him
into your home and life in these days? How do you celebrate his birth? Does
Jesus birth take primacy in your celebrations or is he just an excuse for music,
dancing, drinks, and presents?
While Jesus is the “reason for the Season,” he is also the “reason that we are
saved, loved, and even have joy.” Let us celebrate the coming of our King
with intentionality.
Thank you to all of our families who hosted the Posadas during this year. May
God bless you for your generosity.

annual charity breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 am De-
cember 25, Christmas morning. A free-will donation
is asked for a breakfast of pancakes and sausages. Dine
in or in a warm to-go box. Just stop in, or for a large order call ½ hour before
(575-2627) to have it waiting for you when you arrive! Owner Ben Weiland is
donating all the food and supplies, with 100 percent of proceeds going to Sioux
Falls Catholic youth missions. Knights of Columbus families will be volunteer-
ing.
