Third Sunday of Easter
Living with Hope & Faith: Our Parish Family
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick: Last Sunday evening, as you may know, I attended the Vicariate 5 Youth Leadership Awards Banquet. I hope you enjoy the great pictures from this event taken by our secretary, Sue Raymond. As a parish family, you have shared with me many blessings over these past seven years. In particular, I want to “thank you” so much for inviting me into your children’s lives. I just want you to know you have raised some awesome young people and I know this is not an easy responsibility! While I am offering some heartfelt “thanks,” I want to express my gratitude for the sacrificial gift of over $23,000 you shared with our parish family for our Easter offering. These monies go into our operating budget for our church to help us “pay the bills” and provide the many vital outreach ministries we offer to those in need in the name of Jesus Christ, the Risen One.
I just wanted to share with you a couple of updates regarding the spring and summer projects we have scheduled to take place on our property this year. First, regarding the construction of a handicap accessible ramp to our church, Brian Ward of Brian Ward Construction and Dante Dominella, our architect, are in conversation with our village to secure all the proper permits and to make sure all our paperwork is in order. The Archdiocese of
Chicago is assisting us in the matter. As soon as I know a more, and a definite time table, I will share this news with you. We are getting closer! Secondly, several staff members and I had a phone conversation with Sal Alfano this past week. As you may recall, Mr. Sal Alfano of Addison Properties, LLC, have purchased the property and the old limestone school building east of the church, known as St. James Academy. He estimates that within the next two weeks, they will begin work on the roof. So, we should begin to see some construction equipment and vehicles around that area of campus. Mr. Alfano assured me and the staff that he will work cooperatively with us regarding the rhythm of parking, services, funerals, weddings and events here at St. Patrick. Please join me in congratulating Gene and Dolly Callahan as they celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary this Sunday, April 30th. The Callahan family is so supportive of many things we do here at St. Patrick, especially our Annual Golf Outing, the Irish Open. Following the 10 AM Mass, with their children, grandchildren, extended family and friends in attendance, it will be my privilege to witness Gene and Dolly’s re-commitment to each other for the next 60 years and beyond! I hope you can stay a few minutes after the liturgy to share in this blessing and to off your own joy-filled thoughts with them. Lastly, next weekend, May 6th and 7th, besides celebrating First Holy Communion with our young people, we will be honoring all nurses and those in the healing professions. Mrs. Cindy LaPorte, the Chairperson of our Parish Council and herself a nurse, will be speaking at all of our Masses except the 5 PM Sunday liturgy. Cindy will be sharing her thoughts during homily-time. As part of this weekend, the Sacrament of Anointing, the healing sacrament, will be shared with all those who wish it after the Masses. If you know any nurses and those who work in the healing professions, please thank them for witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through their vocation.
With blessings of Easter peace and joy,
All members of Girl Scout Troop #929 from St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School have been Awarded the Bronze Medal service award. This is the highest award possible to earn as a Junior Girl Scout. The girls focused their service project on helping animals by collecting many boxes of donated items, as well as hundreds of dollars. They also held two used books sales and created homemade doggie treats to raise money. The girls made blankets out of old t-shirts to comfort the animals, visited the animals at the humane society, and made a bench(see photo above) for visitors to sit on while spending time at the humane society. They would like to thank you for your donations to their service project. It would not have been possible without your help. Thank you, Arf!

Senior Unity Mass—June 1st at 10am Holy Family Church, 1080 W. Roosevelt Rd, Chicago
In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, Rev. Monsignor Boland invites all senior citizens to Catholic Charities 44th Annual Senior Unity
Mass. A social gathering, information fair, and free hot luncheon will be held immediately following the
Mass. Free parking is conveniently available for cars and buses. Reservation
is required, space is limited. 312-655-7425
ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE As of now, there is no date scheduled for St. Pat’s Blood Drive. Heartland is hesitant to put us on their calendar as last year’s turnout of potential donors did not meet their minimum standards. So, instead of canceling altogether, we are posting a sign-up sheet at the west entrance to church. If you think you may be interested in participating this year, [of course, depending on date and time], sign your name. To have a blood drive we will need at least 25 potential donors. Whether or not a blood drive will occur during the next few months, will be announced in a future bulletin.
Thank you for your continued interest, The Blood Drive Team
A generous parishioner is donating 5 admissions to the Pallet Painting Party. If you would like to go, but maybe find the $55 a little too steep to afford right now, please call the parish office to set up your reservation free of charge and then simply come and join the fun. Limited to 5 free admissions while they last. Don’t be shy, the economy can be tough these days, but that should not mean you can’t have a little creative fun anyway.
TRAINING

LOCATION: St. Patrick Parish—Lemont We are in need of new ministers, please consider training as an extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Call St. Patrick Parish Office to register. 630-257-4640

Thank you for continuing to pray for the baby you spiritually adopted in August. Our prayers have been that through the support of our prayers the unborn babies would be born strong and healthy into loving families. To mark the end of our year of prayer and to give financial support to the mothers in need, the Respect Life Group will host a baby shower on the weekend of May 20th/21st. Gifts donated through the baby shower will be given to Waterleaf Women’s Center in Aurora. Though Waterleaf is grateful for all donations, items especially needed at this time are: small stuffed animals, onesies, bibs, blankets, wipes and diapers of all sizes. Every mother in need of assistance is given a package of necessary items and a small stuffed animal for her baby. Please do not wrap your gift. Thank you for your prayer and for any baby shower gifts you can give to our baby shower on May 20th and 21st.
