General Information Skill Level: Intermediate Please read all instructions before
beginning. All seams are sewn with a 1/4” seam
allowance. Pre-wash and press with spray starch. WOF = Width of Fabric is based on 42”.
Press all seams open (unless directedotherwise) to decrease bulk.
Finished Blocks are 15” square. After cutting the fabric sort into the
appropriate stack – Block A or Block B forless confusion.

1/2 Yard Lightweight Fusible Web(Mistyfuse – 20” Wide)
4-1/2 Yards Backing(If using WIDE Backing you will need 2-1/4 Yards)

Step 1: Cutting the Fabric1. Fabric A (Dragons) – Cut as follows:
a. Cut (2) strips at 9” x WOF – Sub-cut into (8) 6” x 9” rectangles – Block A (Bottom).b. Cut (1) strip at 5” x WOF – Sub-cut into (6) 6” x 5” rectangles – from the balance of the 9” strip
cut down to 5” then cut (2) 6” x 5” rectangle to yield a total of (8) rectangles – Block A (Top).2. Fabric B (Cream with Knights) – Cut as follows:
a. Cut (2) strips at 9” x WOF – Sub-cut into (10) 6” x 9” rectangles – Block B (Bottom).b. Cut (2) strips at 5” x WOF – Sub-cut into (10) 6” x 5” rectangles – Block B (Top).c. From the balance of the fabric fussy cut (4) 4-1/2” squares ON POINT for the Center of Block A, as
illustrated.3. Fabric C (Red) – Cut as follows:
a. Cut (2) strips at 2-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 2-1/2” x 5” rectangles and (4) 2-1/2” x 9”rectangles – Block A (Center).
b. Cut (2) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 13-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles – Block A (MiddleHorizontal).
c. Cut (3) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (10) 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangles – Block B (Sides).d. Cut (1) strip at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (5) 6-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles – Block B (Top).e. Cut (3) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (10) 10-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles – Block B (Left and
Right Upper Corners)4. Fabric D (Black) – Cut as follows:
a. Cut (2) strips at 2-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (5) 2-1/2” x 5” rectangles and (5) 2-1/2” x 9”rectangles – Block B (Center).
b. Cut (2) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (5) 13-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles – Block B (MiddleHorizontal).
c. Cut (2) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (8) 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangles – Block A (Sides).d. Cut (1) strip at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (4) 6-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles – Block A (Top).e. Cut (2) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut into (8) 10-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles – Block A (Left and
Right Upper Corners).f. Cut (7) strips at 2-1/2” x WOF – Binding. Join at the 2-1/2” sides.
5. Fabric E (Purple/Blue Stars) – Cut (2) strips at 6” x WOF – Sub-cut into (9) 6” squares – Cross-cut ONCEto yield (18) triangles – Block A and B (Upper Left and Right Corners).
Block A
6. Fabric F (Cream Stars):a. Cut (13) strips at 1-1/2” x WOF – Sub-cut (6) 1-1/2” x 15-1/2” rectangles (Sashing between Blocks
– Vertical).b. Sew (7) of the 1-1/2” strips together at
the 1-1/2” edge and cut (6) 47-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangles (Sashing and Borders –Horizontal).
c. Sew the (3) remaining 1-1/2” stripstogether at the 1-1/2” edge and cut (2)1-1/2” x 55” rectangles (Left and RightSide Inner Border).
7. Fabric G (Knights/Wizard Border Print) – Cutoff the first 15” x WOF and then cut asfollows along the SELVAGE edge:a. Fussy Cut (1) of the Knights on Horses section at 4” x 55” – Ob. Fussy Cut (1) of the Knights Standing sections at 4” x 55” –
Outer Border (Right Side).c. Fussy Cut (2) of the Wizard sections at 56-1/2” x 4” – Outer
Border (Top and Bottom).d. Fussy Cut (2) of the Shield with Swords sections at 47-1/2” x
1/4” – Inner Border (Top and Bottom).e. From the 15” x WOF piece fussy cut (5) Wizards squares at 4
1/2” ON POINT, as illustrated.
Note: Both Block A and Block B are sewn exactly the same way. Refer tothe Finished Blocks. The examples shown showcase Block B for ease inviewing.
Step 2 – Block A - Dragons8. Sew (1) Fabric A 6” x 9” rectangle to the left and right sides of (1)
Fabric C 2-1/2” x 9” rectangle to measure 13-1/2” x 9” – BottomSection.
9. Sew (1) Fabric A 6” x 5” rectangle to the left and right sides of (1)Fabric C 2-1/2” x 5” rectangle to measure 13-1/2” x 5” – TopSection.
10. Sew (1) Fabric C 13-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the bottom of (1) TSECTION rectangle and then sew to the BOTTOM SECTION to finisthe center of the block at 13-1/2” x 14-1/2”.
11. Sew (1) Fabric D 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangle to the left and rightsides beginning at the BOTTOM – this rectangle will not go all theway to the top – Refer to Example A – Press towards the OUTSIDE
12. Sew (1) Fabric D 6-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the top – CENTER acPress towards the OUTSIDE.
13. Trim the upper left and right corners at a 45 degree angle ¼” aboas shown in Example B.

14. Sew (1) Fabric D 10-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the upper left and right corners centering across the 45degree angle – Press towards the OUTSIDE – Do not trim yet – Refer to the FINISHED BLOCK AIllustration.
15. Sew (1) Fabric E triangle to the upper left and right corners centering across Fabric D – Press towardsthe OUTSIDE – Refer to the FINISHED BLOCK A Illustration – Square block to 15-1/2” square.
16. From the “Fusible Web” Cut (9) 4-1/2” squares – Set (5) aside for use in Block B.17. Layer (1) Fabric B Fussy Cut 4-1/2” square onto (1) Fusible Web with RIGHT side of the fabric to the
fusible web. Stitch all the way around – cut an “X” in the middle of the Fusible Web and turn – Fuse tothe center of the block as shown in the FINISHED BLOCK A Illustration – use a decorative stitch orblanket stitch and sew all the way around the 4” square to secure to the block – Label Block A and setaside for use later.
18. Repeat from Instruction No. 8 THREE more times to make a total of (4) blocks.
Step 3 – Block B - Knights19. Sew (1) Fabric B 6” x 9” rectangle to the left and right sides of (1) Fabric D 2-1/2” x 9” rectangle to
measure 13-1/2” x 9” – Bottom Section.20. Sew (1) Fabric B 6” x 5” rectangle to the left and right sides of (1) Fabric D 2-1/2” x 5” rectangle to
measure 13-1/2” x 5” – Top Section.21. Sew (1) Fabric D 13-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the bottom of (1) TOP SECTION rectangle and then sew
to the BOTTOM SECTION to finish the center of the block at 13-1/2” x 14-1/2”.22. Sew (1) Fabric C 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” rectangle to the left and right sides beginning at the BOTTOM – this
rectangle will not go all the way to the top – Refer to Example A – Press towards the OUTSIDE.23. Sew (1) Fabric C 6-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the top – CENTER across the block – Refer to Example A –
Press towards the OUTSIDE.24. Trim the upper left and right corners at a 45 degree angle ¼” above top seam of Fabric D (HORIZONTAL)
as shown in Example B.25. Sew (1) Fabric C 10-1/2” x 1-1/2” rectangle to the upper left and right corners centering across the 45
degree angle – Press towards the OUTSIDE – Do not trim yet – Refer to the FINISHED BLOCK BIllustration.
26. Sew (1) Fabric E triangle to the upper left and right corners centering across Fabric C – Press towardsthe OUTSIDE – Refer to the FINISHED BLOCK B Illustration – Square block to 15-1/2” square.
27. Layer (1) Fabric G Fussy Cut 4-1/2” square onto (1) Fusible Web with RIGHT side of the fabric towardthe fusible web. Stitch all the way around – cut an “X” in the middle of the Fusible Web and turn –Fuse to the center of the block as shown in the FINISHED BLOCK B Illustration – use a decorative stitchor blanket stitch and sew all the way around the 4” square to secure to the block – label Block B andset aside for use later.
28. Repeat from Instruction No. 19 FOUR more times to make a total of (5) blocks.
Step 4 – Sewing the Center29. Sew THREE rows at 47-1/2” x 15-1/2” as follows:
Row 1 and 3: Block B, Fabric F 1-1/2” x 15-1/2”, BlRow 2: Block A, Fabric F 1-1/2” x 15-1/2”, Bl
30. Sew the rows together inserting (1) Fabric F 47-1/2” x 1-1center at 47-1/2” square.
Step 5 – Borders
Note: From this point forward refer to

Inner Border31. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 47-1/2” rectangle to the top and sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 47-1/2” rectangle to
the bottom of (1) Fabric G 47-1/2” x 2-1/4” rectangle to make a new rectangle at 47-1/2” x 4-1/4” –Make (2) and sew (1) to the top and (1) to the bottom of the assembled center to measure 47-1/2” x55”.
32. Sew (1) Fabric F 1-1/2” x 55” rectangle to the LEFT and RIGHT sides of the center to finish the InnerBorder at 49-1/2” x 55”.
Outer Border33. Sew (1) Fabric G (Knights on Horses) 4-1/4” x 55” rectangle to the Left side as illustrated.34. Sew (1) Fabric G (Knights Standing) 4-1/4” x 55” rectangle to the Right side as illustrated.35. Sew (1) Fabric G (Wizards) 56-1/2” x 4-1/4” rectangle to the Top and Bottom to finish the quilt top at
56-1/2” x 62” as illustrated.
Step 6 – Finishing the QuiltNote about Backing:You may use a 2-1/2 yards piece of wide backing. Or if using 42” x 44” wide fabric, cut (2) backing pieces at 2-1/4 yards by WOF, and the seam may be horizontal or vertical. Sew the SELVAGE edges together using a 1”seam then trim the selvage off and press to one side.
36. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top and quilt as desired.37. Using the Fabric D 2-1/2” strips sew on the binding to finish the quilt.
