Please read all instructions before beginning. Pre-washing recommended for hand dyes only.

Pre-washing NOT recommended for panel and prints.

Yardages and Cutting WOF is 42" width of fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge. Remove as little fabric as possible when removing

selvages and squaring strip ends.

Disney Little Mermaid panel • Trim to 41 1/2" wide x 33 1/2" tall.

3/4 yard pink/blue sky print • 4 strips 1" x WOF; trim into 2 strips each 42 1/2"

and 33 1/2".

• 6 strips 2 1/4" x WOF for binding.

1 1/2 yards navy sky print • 2 strips 4 1/2" x WOF; cut into (32) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"

rectangles.

• 7 strips 2 1/2" x WOF; cut into (4) 2 1/2" x 8 1/2"

and (4) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles and (88) 2 1/2"

squares.

• 2 strips 1 1/2" x WOF; trim to (2) 34 1/2" strips for

panel frame.

• 8 strips 1 1/2" x WOF for panel frame and border.

3/8 yard light aqua hand dye • 4 strips 2 1/2" x WOF; cut into (12) 2 1/2" x 8 1/2"

and (4) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles.

3/8 yard medium aqua hand dye • 4 strips 2 1/2" x WOF; cut into (10) 2 1/2" x

8 1/2", (4) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" and (4) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"

rectangles.

3/8 yard dark aqua hand dye • 4 strips 2 1/2" x WOF; cut into (14) 2 1/2" x

8 1/2" and (4) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles and

(4) 2 1/2" squares.

3 7/8 yards of 42" backing fabric • 2 strips 66" x WOF

OR

2 yards wide backing fabric • 1 piece 74" x 66"

Batting • 1 piece 74" x 66"

Piecing the Units Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching. Press seams as directed.

1. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of all 2 1/2" squares.

2. Place marked navy sky squares right sides on each end of a 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" light aqua rectangle. Sew on the

lines. Trim seam allowance 1/4" out from the stitching. Press the navy corners open to complete 1 A unit. Repeat to

make 6 A units. Repeat to make 6 AR units, changing position of the diagonal lines as shown.

3. In the same manner, make 2 each A1 and A2 units with 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles and a square on only 1 end

of each as shown.

4. Repeat to make the following units, referring to the diagrams on the next page and using rectangles listed:

B, BR and B5 units: Use 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" medium aqua rectangles.

B1 and B2 units: Use 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" medium aqua rectangles.

B3 and B4 units: Use 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" medium aqua rectangles.

C, CR and C1 units: Use 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" dark aqua rectangles.

C2 and C3 units: Use 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" dark aqua rectangles.

D and DR units: Use 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" navy sky rectangles and marked dark aqua squares.

Completing the Quilt

1. Sew 1" x 33 1/2"

pink/blue sky strips to the sides

of the panel and the 1" x 42 1/2"

strips to the top and bottom. Press

seams toward the strips.

2. Stitch the 1 1/2" x WOF

navy sky strips short ends

together to make a long strip.

Press seams to one side. Cut into

2 strips each 58 1/2", 48 1/2" and

44 1/2". Set aside the 58 1/2" and

48 1/2" strips for the outer

border.

3. Sew the 1 1/2" x 34 1/2"

navy sky strips to the sides of the

framed panel and the 1 1/2" x

44 1/2" strips to the top and

bottom to complete the 44 1/2" x

36 1/2" panel center. Press seams

toward the strips.

4. Stitch 1 each A, AR, A1

and A2 units together with (2)

2 1/2" x 4 1/2" navy sky

rectangles to make a 2 1/2" x

36 1/2" side strip. Press seams toward the navy sky rectangles and the center seam open. Repeat to make a second

side strip. Sew the strips to the sides of the panel center. Press seams toward the panel center.

5. Sew 2 each A and AR units together with (1) 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" and (2) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" navy sky rectangles to

make the 2 1/2" x 48 1/2" top row. Press seams toward the navy sky rectangles. Repeat to make the bottom row.

Stitch the rows to the top and bottom of the panel center. Press seams toward the panel center.

6. Stitch 1 each B, BR, B1 and B2 units together with (1) 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" and (2) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" navy sky

rectangles to make a 2 1/2" x 40 1/2" side strip. Press seams toward the navy sky rectangles. Repeat to make a second

side strip. Sew the strips to the sides of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.

7. Sew 1 each B, BR, B3, B4 and B5 units together with (4) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" navy sky rectangles to make the

2 1/2" x 52 1/2" top row. Press seams toward the navy sky rectangles. Repeat to make the bottom row. Stitch the

rows to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.

8. Stitch 1 each C, CR, C1, D and DR units together with (2) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" navy sky rectangles to make a

2 1/2" x 44 1/2" side strip. Press seams toward the navy sky rectangles and the D and DR units. Repeat to make a

second side strip. Sew the strips to the sides of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.

9. Sew 2 each C and CR and 1 each C2 and C3 units together with (4) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" navy sky rectangles to

make the 2 1/2" x 56 1/2" top row. Press seams toward the navy sky rectangles and the center seam open. Repeat to

make the bottom row. Stitch the rows to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.

10. Stitch the 48 1/2" navy sky strips from step 2 to the sides of the quilt center and the 58 1/2" strips to the top

and bottom to complete the top. Press seams toward the strips.

11. If using 42" backing fabric, remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long

edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim to make the 74" x 66" backing piece.

12. Layer the quilt top with the backing and batting pieces. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with

the top.

13. Join the pink/blue sky print binding strips on the short ends with diagonal seams to make a long strip. Press

seams in one direction. Press the strip in half along the length with wrong sides together. Bind the quilt edges using

your favorite method to complete the quilt.
