GRAND KNIGHT NOTES

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

A heartfelt greeting to all as we begin the Columbian Year 2019 – 2020. As your newly-elected Grand Knight, I am truly

grateful our brother Knights have entrusted me with this honor.

Our future can be exciting with an ambitious plan for the coming year. In preparation, I’ve benefitted from the recent

counsel of past Grand Knights and others in evaluating past accomplishments and also determining future needs.

Accordingly, I would like to suggest our number one priority; increased membership for both the Council and the Ladies

Auxiliary. As part of that mission, I also detect a need for more family involvement and, as such, will be encouraging our

collective members to actively support each other’s organizations and functions and strive for greater family

participation.

While we have clearly benefitted from the effective leadership of our respective organizations for the past 30 years or

so, our future depends on new quality members and even a new paradigm where needed. Let’s all “hit the ground

running” with excitement as we journey into the new Columbian year.

Finally, I would like to express my intense appreciation to my very good friend, Past Grand Knight, SK Ray Foster, for his

enthusiastic guidance to me and our brothers this past year as he ventures into future service for the Knights of

Columbus.

I’d like to ask for continued prayers for Brother Ken Sawyer and Brother Chuck, Marcella Blaske wife of Brother Stanley

Blaske who recently passed away, as well as Chuck Mc Closkey’s Father who passed away on July 1st, Brother Tony De

Quipa and his wife Nettie, Brother Bob and Lady Dee Zagby, and Brother Darren Horvath and his Family. I’m also asking

prayers for Juliet Fritz, mother of Brother Joey Fritz, who inspired me to join the Knights.

In closing, you are encouraged to contact me with any ideas and suggestions (and criticisms)

you may have for the future success of our Knights of Columbus Council and for the Ladies

Auxiliary.

Council at a Glance

Financial Secretary’s Blotter- Notes from your Financial Secretary

Happy 4th of July! Brother Knights Welcome to the New fraternal Year! Greetings from the New State Officers and Welcome to our new SJHOM Parish Administrator! (Did I cover it all?)

My theme for this month’s Newsletter is: “the only constant in this Life is Change”, thank goodness our Heavenly Father remains the constant in all the heavens and eternity. 1st Point: Welcome to all newly elected and appointed Council Officers of 10442. Your new Council Badges will be at the first Council Meeting on July 11th, in the Corpus Christi Room. 2nd Point: To all our Retiring PGK – the 11 Honorees. As you are already aware, we were compelled to move your Special recognition Mass to July 21st at the 10AM Mass. This event honoring these 11 members and the years of dedication will take place at that day and time. I will be sending a separate email with more detailed information this week. 3rd Point: The new GK Gary Presswood and I have been meeting over the past several weeks in preparation for the new fraternal year. I can only share with you – I am both excited and highly motivated to participate in Gary’s vision for the upcoming year. Please take the time to listen and offer your assistance to a new GK that has our Council’s best interest at heart. Did someone say, “Star Council”? 4th Point: As we are facing changes; changes in council officers, changes in procedures, changes in our religious parish leaders, changes within ourselves (I know my joints don’t work like they did 10 years ago) let us first lead with a open heart and then with faith. Change is the one aspect of this life we can count on occurring and with change our Parish and Council will adjust into the future. See you at the Council Meeting on Thursday July 11th, Past GK’s BBQ at Don’s House on July 20th and the Celebration Mass on July 21st

See you at the June meeting for our Officer Elections. Yours in Service, Rick Senninger FS

Message from Membership Director – Brothers: July 1st starts the new Columbian year 2019-2020. It looks like I will be membership chairman again. This past year we did not make our membership goal and therefore we did not make star council. Let us all make an exerted effort in the coming year so we can make our goal, all it takes is for 10442 to add two new members per month. Let’s all make it known to fellow parishioners that we are Knights of Columbus and tell them all the good that we do. We have a successful Council and by adding new active members we can insure a strong future council. If you need a form 100 they are available in the Knight’s mail box in the church office. Thank you all Bob Zagby Membership Chairman Form 100s are in the Church Office! Vivat Jesus 702-379-3025 [email protected]

Good of the Order

This is to advise the membership that because of a new job, Brother Peter Wagonleitner is unable to continue as Fraternal Chairman. We are asking someone to step up to fill this rewarding position as Fraternal chair. It is a great way to help brother knights and their families through difficult times. Prayers are asked for a speedy recovery for Brother Tony Dequipa who is suffering from Leukemia as well as his wife Nettie and their family. Pray for recovery and return to full health for Tony (Karen) Ruivivar, Nadine (Victor) Stango, Pat (Mike) LaRiccia, as well as Brothers Ken Sawyer and Chuck McCloskey who have had surgery recently. Prayers are requested Juliet Fritz mother of Brother Joey Fritz. Pray for the repose of the soul of Chuck Mc Closkey’s Father who recently passed away.

Online Rosary: comepraytherosary.org If you or someone you know would like to be on the prayer list or if you know of someone who

should be removed from previous prayer lists, until we have a new Fraternal Chair, please contact Peter Wagenleitner at:

FROM THE EDITOR’S DESK

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Gary Presswood for realizing the gravity of the situation and stepping

up to accept the position of Grand Knight. I know that it was not an easy decision for him to make. He is very busy

running his business and his wife is also very busy working in real estate. Because of his love of his faith and his unselfish

commitment to the knights he made the decision to lead us this fraternal year.

I implore each and every one of you to follow Grand Knight Gary’s commitment by voluntarily agreeing to fill the many

directorship and chairmen positions that need to be filled to properly run a successful council. Please step up and help

our new grand knight. One of the basic ways that each member can help is by attending the council meetings, finding

out what the council is doing and then volunteering in some way to be a part of this great charitable organization.

Thanks to those of you who are always there to help, without you few we could not exist.

OFFICERS FOR THE COLUNBIAN YEAR 2019/2020

Grand Knight ---- Dr. Gary Presswood Deputy Grand Knight (Pro Tem) Bob Zagby

Chancellor ------- Ed Miranda Advocate --------------- James Butman

Treasurer -------- Danny Illscupidez Warden ----------------- David Richardson

Recorder --------- Mike LaRiccia (Pro Tem) Financial Secretary--- Rick Seneger( App’d)

Outside Guard--- Tony Tatalo Inside Guard ----------- Mike Castronova

Outside Guard ---Ed Wright 3 Year Trustee --------- Ray Foster DD, PGK

2 Year Trustee – Tom O’Reilly 1 Year Trustee --------- Frank Davis

As you can see no one stepped up to fill the offices of Deputy Grand Knight or Recorder. Fortunately we had two

members volunteer to fill these offices temporarily until we get someone to volunteer to fill these two important

positions on a permanent basis. A big thanks to PGK Mike LaRiccia and to Bob Zagby who also has agreed to fill the

position of Membership Director. We need more men like them if we are to succeed with our goal of charity in helping

those less fortunate.

Gentlemen, please reflect on why you joined the Knights of Columbus and then commit to not only attending council

meetings but to actually committing a little of your time so we can realize the dream of our founder Father Michael Mc

Givney. Please be a part of the solution.

PAST GRAND KNIGHT BARBECUE

As has been our tradition for many years council 10442 is sponsoring a Past Grand Knight Barbecue on July 20, 2019 to

celebrate the end of another successful year. As always Past Grand Knight Don Thompson and his wife Peggy have

graciously offered to host the event at their home, 7244 Eldora Ave., about 2 blocks south of the church. This barbecue

is for the whole council to attend and to not only honor the past grand knights but to honor all those who have

supported the council by helping with events, attending events to make them successful or by volunteering your time to

be a council officer.

The council will supply drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages and all the trimmings. We ask that those who attend

bring a salad, vegetable or dessert to share. Please plan on attending! A lot of work goes into getting the Thompson’s

home ready to serve the council. All we ask is that you show up and enjoy yourself to show appreciation to the

Thompsons for their hospitality and to thank those who worked hard to make Council10442 a success this year

RECOGNITION MASS

The council officers have scheduled a recognition Mass to honor the grand knights who have been instrumental in

serving council 10442 and a few other grand knights who have served in other councils. This celebration will take place

on July 21, 2019 at the 10:00am Mass with refreshments to follow in the hall. It is my understanding that a few of the

council officers met to make this event a reality. At the Mass there will be reserved seating for the knights. I ask each

and everyone to save this date and attend this Mass not only to recognize those grand knights being feted but to sit

together in unity and solidarity with badges on to show the parish who we are and what we do to help the parish and

the community. If we succeed in doing that it may be a good time to hold a membership drive. Please help your council

and attend this event.

Council recognition

Knight of the Month - June 2019

Steven J. Luedke

Our Knight of the Month for June is Steve Luedtke. Steve is being honored because he always can be counted on to help and serve at every Council function. Steve is active in the Assembly as well. He is a very hard worker and does whatever is needed....whether it be selling tickets, heavier work like setting up/ taking down tables, transporting items to and from the shed – Steve helps with it all. He is always there when a little extra motivation and energy is needed without asking and it does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Steve exemplifies service to Council and community. The Council is very proud to honor this worthy Brother and wishes to thank you, Steve for all you do!.

Family of the Month - June 2019

John and Ginny Falzarano

Long time Knight John Falzarano and his wife Ginny have been named family of the month. John is always present at Council and Assembly events as well as volunteering as security on Faith Formation class nights at church. Ginny is a long time receptionist in the Parish office. They are both visible for clean-up at all our social events. We thank them for their service to the Council and our parish.

Please prayerfully consider helping the Council We have been running this notice about needing leadership help in the kitchen for well over a year. As far as I know no one has come forward to take on the responsibility of taking on an event and making it their own. We still are relying on just a few to do all of the work for every event. I would like to thank those who helped while Chuck was recovering from his knee surgery. Even though Chuck is getting better that does not mean that the council does not need a few members to step up and take over some events. Those of you who have cooking experience should volunteer to help with an event that suits your ability. Those of you who do not have a lot of cooking experience this is an opportunity to learn and eventually fulfill your fantasy of becoming a great cook. Remember there are always those who are willing to help and while that is great in getting the job done we are in need of someone to assume the greater responsibility of leadership.

I also am asking your help at various times during the month to volunteer to help Brother David and Krista Richardson in bringing items from the shed to the church. They have gone above the call of duty in faithfully transporting these items for every event. Please spend a few hours a month in helping them get this important job done.

News from the Ladies Auxiliary

Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Columbus St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Council #10442

Happy 4th of July!

Enjoy your picnics and fireworks but stay safe.

I am so happy to be a part of the Ladies Auxiliary at St Joseph Husband of Mary. I admit I am still in shock and

overwhelmed from being elected president after being part of your auxiliary for such a short time. And I thank all of you

for the opportunity. I have admired your auxiliary for many years while I was on the board of the State Ladies Auxiliary

and had the opportunity to attend your meetings and activities.

I would like to share a bit about myself so you can get to know me. After spending nine years teaching English in

Colombia, South America, my family and I moved to Las Vegas in 1981. We were looking for someplace warmer than

Wisconsin, where we grew up. I actually wanted to move to San Antonio, Texas, but my husband and my mother

wanted us to move to Las Vegas. My wishes could have prevailed with my husband, but definitely not against my

mother.

My husband, Jim, joined Council 2828 in 1982. We were active there for about ten years, until we switched to Council

9899 at Prince of Peace when my son became Chief Squire there. Many a Sunday my husband, myself and two children

were on the alter serving mass together. Jim served as State Administrative Assistant for two years and alternated as

Program Director or Membership Director, along with publishing the Silver Knight for a few years.

I was elected to the original board of the Nevada State Council Ladies Auxiliary in 2005 and served in most of the

positions until it was disbanded in 2018. I joined the auxiliary at St Francis De Sales when Council 9899 became inactive

in 2011. I joined your auxiliary in January because I admire what you accomplish. I am still active in Boy Scout Troop 77

as Secretary/Treasurer, even though my son left the troop many years ago. I am also the Treasurer for SNAPS, a polio

survivor organization that Jim and I had belonged to.

We have a few upcoming activities that I hope to see the Ladies attend.

July 20th PGK Luau @ the Thompson Residence

July 27th Installation of Officers @ The Hall after 4:30 Mass

August 1st Bingo Night @ St Francis & Clare Rooms

Again, thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as president. I will strive to help your auxiliary continue to be as

strong and productive as it is now.
