Dear Brothers,
First of all, I want to thank Worthy Grand Knight Lane Morrell for his year of service. He carried the role with dignity and Honor! I want to also thank him for his support in handing me the baton. I want to thank the Council for trusting me as the next Grand Knight. I will pray to live up to the expectations of the Council, and ask each of you for prayers that we have a successful year!
The month of June flew by. We had the Pancakes for Priests fundraiser on June 1st at Applebees. I want to thank Bob Maras for running a successful program. It was a busy and fun morning! Dennis Gibson promoted and organized our council to support the Msgr. Baldwin 4th degree Assembly @ Day at the Races which took place at Monmouth Raceway June 22nd.
I want to thank our new Directors for stepping up this upcoming year.
• Frank Falsetto as our Faith Director, • Dave Dembinski as our Community Director • Br. Michael Seiler as our Life Director • Wayne Calsetta as our Family Director
Leadership and Courage is raising your hand to take on a responsibility. Please respect these gentlemen for the roles they are taking on and pray that you, someday, will have the courage to stand up and say “Here I am Lord, Guide me in our Faith to strengthen our Council and help to serve others, like You taught us”.
July is going to be a busy month. We have our Installation of Officers on July 11th, 7pm @ St. Monica.
We have our Knights Family Picnic @ John and Caroline White’s Home at 12 Stonehenge Ct, Jackson on July 20th at 1:00 PM. Bring your family, swim suits and your appetites!
Committees are forming for our upcoming Rubber Duck Race in September. If you would like to help please contact Tony Biele. We will need a lot of help for this event.
Our Summer Blood Drive is being put together by Ray Smink and Mike Budrick. Ron Borrello has initiated The Deacon Mike Principato Scholarship Essay Contest and Dave Dembinski has started working on a Coat drive. More info on this to come.
God Bless and Vivat Jesus,
Grand Knight Scott Rusbarsky

What did Jesus mean when He said it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven? Answer: There are several different schools of thought on what
Jesus was referring to in saying it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to gain eternal life (Matthew 19:24; Mark 10:25; Luke 18:25). The Persians expressed the concept of the impossible by saying it would be easier to put an elephant through the eye of a needle. The camel was a Jewish adaptation (the largest animal in Israel was a camel).
Some theorize that the needle Jesus was speaking of was the Needle Gate, supposedly a low and narrow after-hours entrance found in the wall surrounding Jerusalem that only people could pass through. It was purposely small for security reasons. I like to think of the sewing needle. The sewing needle has a small eyelet and only thread can pass through it. Does it really matter? A camel is not passing through either one. The explanation is that Jesus was using hyperbole, a figure of speech that exaggerates for emphasis.
Jesus’ message is clear—it is impossible for anyone to be saved on his own merits. Since wealth was seen as proof of God’s approval, it was commonly taught by the rabbis that rich people were blessed by God and were, therefore, the most likely candidates for heaven. Jesus destroyed that notion, and along with it, the idea that anyone can earn eternal life. The disciples had the appropriate response to this startling statement. They were utterly amazed and asked, “Who then can be saved?” in the next verse. If the wealthy among them, which included the super-spiritual Pharisees and scribes, were unworthy of heaven, what hope was there for a poor man?
Jesus’ answer is the basis of the gospel: "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God" (Matthew 19:26). Men are saved through God’s gifts of grace, mercy, and faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Nothing we do earns salvation for us. It is the poor in spirit who inherit the kingdom of God (Matthew 5:3), those who recognize their spiritual poverty and their utter inability to do anything to justify themselves to a Holy God. The rich man so often is blind to his spiritual poverty because he is proud of his accomplishments and has contented himself with his wealth. He is as likely to humble himself before God as a camel is to crawl through the eye of a needle.
Think of the people around you. Lend a helping hand when you can, to alleviate some stress and suffering. Money does not have handles on it. You cannot take it with you when you are gone—wherever you are headed. Be generous when you can be. This doesn’t mean that you are to be made a fool of and give everything away that you have, because you will be tested again to help the next poor person. The Lord will provide for you. Count your blessings.
Saint Francis of Assisi often gave up his last morsels of food to help the poor. He was not afraid to do so because the fact he had deep faith in God to provide more food.
Jesus, I trust in you! You are my Lord and Savior.

Council Meetings will be changing.
Supreme has implemented change to our council in many ways. One of the changes will take
place during our bi-weekly Council Meetings. We will be implementing “The Supreme
Chaplain’s Challenge”. This challenge is really an invitation. It invites us to share more of our
Faith in our interaction with each other.
The challenges all revolve around the liturgy during our monthly masses. We will announce the
challenge during the first meeting of the month. We will all be given a chance to dwell on it,
discuss it, and pray on it; then, during the 2nd meeting of the month, we will share the impact of it.
Our introduction to the Challenge took place during our February 28th Council Meeting. But you
can witness it, yourself, by just showing up. So, if you haven’t been to a meeting for a while,
come on down.
You can also find out more about the challenge in the Supreme Website. We will also
communicate this in our own Newsletter.
This is only 1 change being implemented. There will be more coming. All designed to bring more
meaning to our involvement in the Knights of Columbus.
Thank you, God Bless and Vivat Jesus

The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” (Gospel for July 21, Lk 10:41-42)
Imagine yourself in Martha’s shoes. While your seemingly lazy sister Mary sits at the feet of Jesus, you are the one preparing and serving the food, setting the table and making things happen. And then, all of a sudden, Jesus chides you and compares you unfavorably to your sister. Jesus’ words can strike us as harsh. Wasn’t Martha doing a good thing by serving our Lord? Yet if we are honest, we recognize that it’s all too easy to get caught up in busyness doing good things and all the while miss the opportunity to encounter Christ. By God’s grace, may we hear these tough words from Jesus, resist this tendency to busyness and strive to choose “the better part.”
Challenge by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori: This month, I challenge you to spend five extra minutes sitting before the Lord before or after Sunday Mass. Second, I challenge you to participate in the Faith in Action Sacramental Gifts program or pray for those receiving the sacraments, that they might choose “the better part.”
Questions for Reflection: If it were you with Jesus that evening, would you have been more likely to be a “Martha” or a “Mary”? What does it mean to choose “the better part”? How did spending a few extra moments with the Lord before or after Mass affect your encounter with Christ in the Eucharist?

End of Year PICNIC
The White family is so dedicated to our Council and Parish. They have once again stepped up to volunteer & host this year’s picnic at their home at 12 Stonehenge Ct, Jackson, on Saturday, July 20th at 1:00PM. Their whole family is very generous and welcoming! Every year this is a lot of fun and a great event for the whole family. Bring your bathing suits and a side dish or dessert would be helpful!
Bob ran a successful Pancakes for Priests breakfast fundraiser in June raising over $600 for a seminarian. He has stepped up to take on the role of Advocate for the coming year.
