NANCY REAGAN: THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME Criticized for taking a seem-ingly traditional role as first lady during an era focused on women’s rights, those within Ronald Reagan’s inner circle rec-ognized Nancy Reagan as much more than the supportive and stylish spouse who redecorated the White House. His-torians have now concluded that Nancy Reagan was one of the most influential first ladies in modern times. She had far-reaching impact on personnel and policy issues. She is credited with moving President Reagan to a more moderate position toward the Soviet Union and getting her husband to publically admit his involvement in Iran-Contra, a move that likely saved his presidency. She was, and continues to be, a formidable and influential political adviser, skills she uses as she guards her husband’s legacy and champions stem cell research. In an extended interview with Judy Woodruff, Nancy Reagan reflects on her childhood, her life as an actress, her marriage to Ronald Reagan, their lifelong romance and her role as his most trusted adviser in a political career that would take them from the back lots of Hollywood, to the California governor’s mansion and then to the White House. Airs Tues-day, March 15 at 8pm and Sunday, March 20 at 5pm

SENECA FALLS This one-hour documentary breathes life and relevance into a revolutionary act barely mentioned in history books: America’s first women’s rights convention, a public protest meeting held in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. The film follows WOWER Power, a struggling multi-cultural teen theater troupe, as they travel from San Francisco to Seneca Falls to perform their original play at the 150th Anniversary Celebration of this groundbreaking moment in American history. The troupe is guided on their journey by director Joan Mankin, a beloved Bay Area ac-tor, who began the project with the girls when she was an artist in residence at San Francisco Community School (a public school in San Francisco), and they were just sixth graders. Airs Tuesday, March 8 at 8pm

From the producing team that won an Acad-emy Award for Born into Brothels comes WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?, a film that examines some of the most pressing issues of our time: parenting and work, partnering and independence, economics and art. The film follows four women artists as they navigate the economic, psychologi-cal, and spiritual challenges of making work outside the elite art work. From Hawaii’s Big Island to the suburbs of Ohio, from New York City, to the deserts of New Mexico, we watch as these women -- ranging in age from 27 to 65 -- fight to honor their vision and their families every day. Airs Tuesday, March 22 at 8pm

Venom scientists are in a race against time. Inside the bodies of many creatures, evolution has produced extreme toxic cocktails, all designed for one reason: to kill. It took millions of years to perfect these ultimate brews of proteins and peptides and we have only just begun to discover their potential. Now, the race is on to collect and study them before the animals that produce them disappear. But how does venom do its deadly work? NOVA reveals how venom causes the body to shut down, arteries to bleed uncontrollably and limbs to go black and die. But nature’s most destructive and extreme poisons could contain the building blocks for a new generation of advanced drugs that could treat heart attack, stroke, diabetes, obesity and cancer. VENOM: NATURE’S KILLER follows scientists on their expeditions to track down and capture the planet’s most deadly crea-tures, risking life and limb just to tease out milligrams of venom and get it back to the lab. Find out how nature’s deadliest cocktails could be medicine’s brightest new hope. Airs Sunday, March 6 at 7pm and Monday, March 7 at 9pm

Voyaging to the most hostile environments on earth, intrepid presenter Steve Leonard is on a mission to find the animals that push the very limits of survival. This thrill-ing series, EXTREME ANIMALS, follows Steve’s adventures as he braves the ele-ments - and the animals - to uncover the most incredible examples of endurance in the natural world. Soar with Steve as he confronts creatures at vertigo-inducing heights and dive with him to bone-crushing depths. Huddle for warmth with animals in the Arctic and try to keep your cool in the searing heat of the desert. Packed with action and inti-mate wildlife encounters this is the ultimate armchair experience of life on the edge, with a presenter who’s not afraid to go there. 3-part series begins airing Sunday, March 13 at 6pm.

HUMAN SENSES This sensory romp around the globe goes in search of the biological roots of our senses to uncover the reasons why particu-lar sights, sounds, smells and tastes have such powerful effects on us. How do we manage to block out intense pain? How does our sense of balance keep working under the most extreme conditions? Live action combined with special effects creates incredible imagery to convey the ‘feeling’ of how our senses work. 3-part series beings airing Monday, March 14 at 8pm.

MUSIC OF IRELAND - WELCOME TO AMERICA features a behind-the-scenes look at the emergence of U2 and the band’s development into one of the world’s most popular touring acts; the Dublin singer/songwriter scene, featuring Academy Award-winner Glen Hansard of The Swell Season and The Frames, Damien Rice and Damien Dempsey; and Sinead O’Connor’s U.S. breakthrough and papal controversy. Other highlights include interviews and vintage performance footage of pop/rock acts The Cranberries, The Corrs, The Script, and Black 47, and the stories behind PBS phenomena “Lord of the Dance” and “Celtic Woman.” The documentary also explores Irish music’s influence on American culture, as showcased by performers at the Dublin Irish Festival in Dublin, Ohio. Never-before-seen performances, rare footage and archival photographs are also featured. Airs Friday, March 18 at 10pm

The music-based travel series MUSIC VOYAGER invites viewers to discover the exciting rhythms of the planet. In each episode, ethnomu-sicologist and world music record producer Jacob Edgar embarks on a quest to find the world’s best songs. With local musicians as his guide, Edgar receives a backstage pass to trendy night-clubs, international festivals, recording studio jam sessions and rollicking rehearsal rooms; samples exotic local cuisine; visits off-the-beaten path attractions and parties at hidden venues only the locals know. This season kicks off a three-episode foray into Louisiana, where Jacob seeks out the region’s authentic sounds — from the bayou to Bourbon Street. Additional destinations include Columbia, South America and Paris, France. New season begins airing Sunday, March 20 at 9:30pm
