‘Book to the Future’ Theme of Summer Program

The Hickam Summer Reading program is an annual event for youth. This year’s ‘Book to the Future’ theme was selected to compliment the Visions of the Universe Exhibit that is coming here in July. Participants are encouraged to read or be read to and log their readings in. It is not so much a contest as it is an effort to promote reading. The reading logs are collected at the end of the Summer Reading Program and the results are tallied. The Hickam Friends of the Library provide prizes and refreshments to the top readers in each age category. Top readers may select a prize of their choice followed by random drawings for the remaining prizes including a super cool grand prize! Every child receives a goody bag for participating. There is no requirement to read books on the selected theme, just to read as much as possible. Registration for summer reading begins on June 15. Hickam Library was one of only 40 libraries nationwide chosen to host the ‘Visions of the Universe’ Exhibit. Make sure you make plans to see it in July.

LIBRARY

There’s nothing like a good story!

Great story telling continues in June at the Hickam Library. The Beach is the theme of the Wednesday, June 10 Pre-School Storytime so bring the kids for a morning of “fun in the sun”. Pre-School Storytime will also be held on Wednesday, June 24 when we’ll present stories about Farms! Both programs run from 9 to 10 a.m. For additional information, call 449-8289.

The Hickam Library continues the popular

Monthly Planet Series with Planet Saturn on Thursday, June 4 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and again on Thursday, June 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Together we will

learn more about the second largest planet in the Solar System.
