online and all members are encouraged to par-ticipate in this event. Allen Fiske is Vice Commodore of Summerset and many hands make the job much easier.

With CMCS, there is always something to do and I hope that everyone will take full advantage of our full schedule. Just remember to RSVP those events as requested. See you on the wa-ter!

““You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the wa-ter.” Rabindranath Tagore

Here we are midpoint through this term in CMCS govern-ance. Many thanks to every-one who had stepped up to help with the steerage of this organization!

We have crew onboard with the Ships Store, Gay & Patrick O'Keefe. Members will see the merchandise out at each meeting. Russ Green and Rose Young have been our Ship’s Store merchants over the past few years and ready to move on . . . Many thanks for their dedication of this task. Mark Franzer has stepped up to manage the challenge of CMCS Public Relations. His first dive into CMCS realm will be Summerset Re-gatta this fall, and on going as we extend the word about CMCS through out SW Florida. Thanks Mark !!! Speaking of Mark, and his lovely spouse, Mau-reen, they are Cruise Leaders of the “Danger Island” Cruise to Pelican Bay for Memorial weekend. By the time this goes to press this year’s cruise will be history with its own tale to tell. Speaking of summer cruises, Bob & I are plan-ning the Fisherman’s Village Cruise, June 14-17, 2018. We have reservations for Fri. & Sat. evening in place. And, the marina is open to ex-tend for either Thurs or Sunday nights. It is an RSVP to reserve dockage! Please read the Cruise write up in May’s Chowder Chatter and the WEB site. It’s a fun cruise and lots to do at Fisherman’s Village Marina and Mall. Summerset Regatta is the first weekend of Oc-tober 2018. It’s never too early to get the spon-sorships in place. Forms are available

Bimini Basin Mooring Field To all who have been watching, an ordinance establishing a

mooring field in Cape Coral's Bimini Basin seems like a virtual

certainty. Despite a boat load of uncertainties, no monetary resources allocated and a state permitting process that will likely take a year or more, the Mayor and City Council members seem poised to push this through. At the public hearing on May 1st, the City's consultant (Stantec) proposed two alter-nate designs. One of them would hold 18 boats, up 35 feet in length, with another holding 15 boats, with three moorings for 45-foot boats. This design proc-ess seems to be largely driven by research into other state mooring fields and the public's input, with the property owners in the area, naturally being very vocal so far. Its important for responsible boaters to make their voices heard. I'd estimate there were 10 or so sailors there from the Cape Coral Sailing Club and 3 CMCS members. If you would like to make comments/feedback on the ordinance or mooring field design, do so ASAP at capecoralmooring-field.com/contact. The City council is set to hear this again on June 4th & 11th.

City Council Hearings: Monday, June 4th, 4:30 pm & Monday, June 11th, 4:30 pm 1015 Cultural Park Boulevard Cape Coral, FL 33990

I hope to have more info once we get closer to the next submission to FDEP, which I've been told is August 1.

"Eden Oak" Development Near Shell Creek In Fort Myers, keep an eye out for more informa-tion on a pro-posed develop-ment and zoning discussion con-cerning 307 acres of wet-lands just south of Shell Creek near Punta Rassa. There was an initial zoning hearing on May 18 with a continuance to September 25th. SCCF is monitoring this closely: http://sccf.org/our-work/natural-resource-policy/eden-oak

June Membership Meeting: Storm Preparedness

Hello storm season! Rather than having 1 speaker for the program in June, we will be having an inter-active discussion focused around storm prepared-ness. We have a lot of collective experience in the club and everyone is encouraged to think on your best recommendations and tips for preparing your boat and property for tropical storms and hurricanes. We'll discuss as a small groups and present to the full membership.

Estebel Night Race and Cruise - Thank you I just wanted to thank everyone who came out or also helped for the recent race, cruise and bloody mary brunch weekend at Pink Shell. It was a great time that did a good job of mixing the various activi-ties that CMCS members are passionate about; rac-ing, cruising and socializing! Rear Commodore of Cruising ReportRear Commodore of Cruising Report

The first Bloody Mary Cruise in conjunction with the Jerry Pim Memorial Race was held the first week of May. The great staff at Pink Shell was on the docks to greet us

on Friday. We had 12 boats at the docks and one boat an-chored out due to a full house. Ambiance, Eroica, Gopher Baroque, Jack B, Lion-

heart, Mingo, Passion III, Sail La Vie, Salty Soul, Sol Adventure, Trust Me!!!, Windy City and Windswept were there. The fun started Friday May 4th at Pink Shell Marina’s Bongo Deck overlooking the bay for Happy Hour following some needed pool time. Saturday morning found us walking on the beach or lounging by the pool. The race was on Saturday evening following the rain. We fin-ished up the weekend with the Bloody Mary Brunch on Sunday morning. We had 53 guests for the brunch on the lawn of the marina. A special thanks goes to our bartender Jason Pim for serving those wonderful Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. The Pink Shell was a lovely venue for combining cruising and racing and we look forward to more great adventures there. Steve and I had our own cruising adventure last week during the monsoon rains coming across the Okeechobee Waterway with our new trawler Ranger. We stayed at a friend’s dock in Palm City a n d c h e c k e d out the very inter-esting Indi-a n t o w n M a r i n a . We met wonderful folks at all

wonderful Cap’n Sam at Roland Martin Marina and check out the world famous Tiki Bar in Clewiston, the self-proclaimed Bass Capital of the World. The wildlife sightings were spectacu-lar.

Well, Storm Season decided to come early this year, and Danger Island was deemed to be too dangerous this year. New rulers Mark and Mau-reen Franzer will have to wait until next year to begin their reign. We look forward to seeing what they’re planning since they have an entire year to come up with some grand schemes. I had an email from Kim Brown on Trust Me!!! on Thursday and they decided to go up to Cayo Costa for a couple of days and see how it goes. There w e r e only 4 b o a t s in all o f P e l i -c a n B a y ! H e sent a lovely photo of the sunset that I’m calling “The Calm Before the Storm.”

Next up is Fisherman’s Village over Father’s Day Weekend June 14-17. Please see flyer elsewhere in Chowder Chatter for details or contact Cruise Leader Bev Duff for more infor-mation.

That’s all for now. Hope to see you out on the water.

Membership and Recruitment

Ahoy CMCS Members! We had another wonderful at-tendance to last month’s membership meeting. Thanks to Allen Fiske for the

slide show presentation about his sailing adventure last year to Quebec City, Canada o n t h e w h e e l c h a i r -assessable catamaran Im-possible Dream.

Seven guests joined us. Also, Bud and Jean Bushen joined as new members during the meeting! Bud is a former Navy man and they hail from PA and NY. They are now permanent residents of Cape Coral. Give them a big welcome! They aren’t boat owners at the present time. That doesn’t stop our members from socializing. Our land-based events such as the shrimp boil, EPOL, grill night and chili cook off, to name a few, offer our non-boat owning members plenty of opportunities to participate in club events. Thank you to Glen Vetter, our Web Master, for placing the new membership application form on our site along with the renewal application. Now that the new membership application is available to down load, the process should be easier. Thank you to all our members for wearing your name tags to the meetings and other functions. Remember attendance to our events and volun-teering add to what makes CMCS so special. Fair winds and following seas,
