LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER - For those who are ill, and those in need of our prayers, we pray...

Dear Parishioners, I hope you are enjoying the Fourth of July Weekend. Today we welcome Father Benedict Faneye as part of the Missionary Coop-erative Plan of the Archdiocese. Father Benedict is a Dominican priest of the Province of Nigeria. Father will be speaking about the work of the Dominicans and I hope you will make him feel very welcomed. We appreciate your support for the Missions. We return to Sunday in Ordinary Time this weekend with a beautiful Gospel reading from St. Matthew. Jesus wants us to come to Him, to lay our burdens upon Him, and to know that He is always close to us. In exchange, He gives us in faith, the rest and peace for which our souls are searching. Only in Jesus are we truly refreshed. Blessings to you all! Devotedly Yours in Christ,

    Father Gabe

    Living Faith for Kids…

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

    -Matthew 11:28 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When you are tired, when you feel like you just can’t do another homework assignment, when you feel lonely, to whom do you go? Parents are usually the first people to turn to when things are getting us down. Sometimes aunts and uncles or grandparents are nearby and willing to help when we are feeling bad. But there is always one person you can turn to when life seems a burden. That someone is Jesus. He is al-

ways there for us. You can tell Jesus anything, and He will help. Just talking to Jesus in prayer helps us in tough times. Try it. He will give you rest.

    Reflection on Today’s Readings:

You shall cross the barren desert, But you shall not die of thirst. You shall wander far in safety,

Though you do not know the way. You shall speak your words to foreign men

And all will understand. You shall see the face of God and live. Be not afraid, I go before you always.

Come follow Me, and I will give you rest.

LITURGY OF THE WORD In today’s first reading, we are reminded that the Holy Spirit dwells in us to bring our mortal bodies to new life. In today’s Gospel, Jesus offers praise to the Father for all that has been revealed to the merest children, but hidden from the learned. Jesus tells us to come to Him and He will refresh us.

FOCUS A cross carried willingly is a burden no more. There is no burden so great that the Lord cannot lift it from us and bring peace to our hearts. So often in life we carry around our hurts and disappointments like a burlap sack filled with rocks, dragging us down. It is far better to hand them over to God who is our source of strength.

Fact of Life: 77-Year-Old Grandma Gets Supreme Court to Up-

    hold Pro-Life Free Speech

Last week in a unanimous decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that struck down a Massachusetts “buffer zone” law, sidewalk counselor Eleanor McCullen won the right to speak up freely to women entering abortion centers in Massachusetts.

“I go where the Holy Spirit leads me,” she said. “It’s America and I should be able to walk and talk gently, lovingly, anywhere, with anybody.”

Outside the Supreme court earlier this year, where Bound4LIFE gathers twice weekly to pray for the end-ing of abortion, McCullen shared words of truth with whomever would listen:

“The poorest of the poor is the child in the womb…Today the womb is the most unsafe place to be for a child.”

The ruling affirms that public sidewalks are a public forum for open discussion. Forcing sidewalk counselors to keep to a 35-foot “buffer zone” from the door of abortion centers is obstructing their free speech; thus the Massachusetts law was struck down.
