National Conference on Retail Excellence (NCRE 2011)

JIMS organized a National Conference on Retail Excellence (NCRE 2011) in association with

RAI, Mumbai, on 11th

October, 2011, Tuesday at the Jagan Institute of Management Studies,

Sector -5, Rohini, New Delhi. The Guest of Honour for the event was Mr. Kumar Rajagopalan,

CEO, Retailers Association of India, Mumbai.

The conference was inaugurated with the Lamp Lighting Ceremony, followed by SaraswatiVandana. Dr. Sumesh Raizada, Dean, (Retail & Marketing) programme and conference

coordinator, briefed the delegates about the conference schedule. The welcome speech was

delivered by Prof. R P Maheshwari, Director General (Hon.), JIMS and the vote of thanks were

given by Dr. J K Goyal, Director, JIMS.

Mr. Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI in the inaugural address, shared his thoughts on the current

scenario of Retail sector, its growth, evolution & transformation. He commented that Retail

Excellence has a great topical importance in present business scenario.

A book comprising of compilation of selected papers was also released on the occasion by theeminent guests.

The conference was divided into two technical sessions. The Technical Session I was a panel

discussion in which speaker were Mr. Avijit Ganguli, Consultant & Ex.V.P.(Marketing), Bata India

Ltd.; Mr.Pradeep Katyal, Retail Consultant; Dr.Tarun Panwar, CEO, Indian Retail School; Mr.Ajay

Khanna, V.P.(Operations), Nirula's Corner House Pvt. Ltd. and Mr.Lawrence Fernandes, Director

(Retail Learning), RAI, Mumbai. The panel discussed various contemporary issues related to retail

sector in India.

The post-lunch Technical Session II comprised of two parallel tracks on the topics Challenges &

Strategies in Retail and Latest Trends and Innovative practices in Retail. The tracks were chaired

by Dr Ajay Suneja, Associate Professor, University of Kurukshetra along with Dr. Neelam Dhall,

Associate Professor, JIMS and Mr. Avijit Ganguli, Ex.V.P.(Marketing), Bata India Ltd. along with

Dr.Ritu Bajaj, Associate Professor, JIMS, respectively.

The NCRE 2011 received an overwhelming response with paper presenters from different parts

of the country such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Mangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad,

Kurukshetra, Hisar and Patiala, besides Delhi-NCR. Around 36 papers were presented in the

technical sessions in which contributors discussed their research findings on various retail

related issues like Visual Merchandising, CRM, ICT interface, Branding, New Trends, HR

aspects, etc.

The event concluded with the valedictory session with the presentation of mementos &

certificates to the delegates. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Ritu Bajaj, Conference Co-

cordinator.

All the faculty members of organizing committee including Ms. Parul Raj, Ms.Mansi Arora and

Dr.Navneet Joshi worked hard to make the conference a huge success. Besides, support from

Administration and IT staff, other faculty members who were sincerely involved in the

conference were Mr.Vaibhav Aggarwal, Mr.Sunny Seth, Ms.Shikha Thakral and Ms.Akansha

Kansal.

Student volunteers and participants from PGDM (Retail & Marketing) - I&II year batches,

PGDM and PGDM(IB) deserves special mention, for their support and dedication.

Overall the event was a great learning experience for all the delegates, faculties and the students.
