Our ESL World HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of those people who celebrate it at this time of the year! There are many people around the world who celebrate the New Year at other times: Feb. 14 (Chinese), April 15 (Bengali), Dec. 7 (Islamic), Mar. 16 (Hindu), and Nov. 27 (Hmong). On January 13th, Jefferson’s Annual World Foods Day celebration, the ESL students will act as hosts and hostesses as the staff comes to the “ESL Café” to sample their ethnic food. Since health regulations prohibit the students from eating any of the food they bring, the Jefferson PTO provides snacks for the students while they are visiting with the teachers at the Café’. The PTO also provides the paper products needed for the day. So, the students learn and practice many practical skills, the staff are introduced to new students and foods, and our guests are asked to bring canned foods for the local food shelves. It is a wonderful event for everyone, especially the ESL students who get some well-deserved attention. Ms. Broschat 506-2984 Mrs. Kurth (Mrs. Brown’s sub) 506-2988
