2. A set of adjacent cells is called a range. It may be a vertical range across rows (A1:A5), horizontal range

across columns (A1:D1) or across rows and columns (A1:D5). In Excel, a range can be given a name called

range name. Such range names can be used in formulas and functions instead of specific cell addresses.

3. 1. Functions are in-built in Excel while formula are defined by user as per their requirements.

2. Formulas take arguments while functions make use of arithmetic operators.

4. AND() evaluates multiple conditions and returns true only if all the conditions are true while OR()

evaluates multiple conditions and returns true if any of the given conditions is true. It returns false only if all

the conditions are false. For example, AND(A1=10, B1=5) will return true of A1 has value 10 as well as B1

has value 5 exactly. OR(A1=15, B1=6) will return true if either A1 has value 15 or B1 has value 6.

Chapter 5 – Program Coding: Level 1 A. Choose the correct answer.

1. c 2. b 3. d 4. a 5. d

B. Fill in the blanks.

1. .java, .class 2. Instance, blueprint 3. Inheritance 4. // 5. Polymorphism

C. Tick (√) the correct statement and cross (×) out the wrong one.

1. False (×) 2. True (√) 3. True (√) 4. True (√) 5. True (√)

D. Answer the following questions.

1. Class: A class defines the properties and behaviour of the objects. Objects of similar properties and

behaviour belong to the same class. For example, all the vehicles can be kept under a class: Vehicle. Once

class is defined, as many objects of that class can be created. In coding, properties are implemented by

member variables and behaviour is implemented by member functions or methods. A Java class looks like

this:

class vehicle

{

float price; //member variable

String registration_number; //member variable

public void setValues() //method

{

}

Public void showValues() //method

{

}

}

Object: An object is an instance of its class. As many objects as required can be created of a class. In coding,

objects are created in the memory and each object has its own set of member variables. For example,

vehicle v1 = new vehicle();

vehicle v2 = new vehicle();

Here, v1 and v2 are the objects of same class vehicle.

2. Abstraction and Encapsulation: Tendency to look for what is necessary is called abstraction. For example,

an adult will look in a watch if it tells the correct time and fits into the budget while a teenager will look for

Page 54: IT Skillz - IT-Skillz.pdf · IT Skillz series of books is the offering from Edusoft which is based on Skill Oriented Methodology. The series is designed with Skill as the key factor

IT SKILLZ

Page | 54

style and more trendy features in it.So, the two people look for different details in the same object! This is

abstraction – we see what we want to see.

Encapsulation means to hide unnecessary details. Hence, encapsulation is a tool to implement abstraction.

The service providers hide the functions and features which users are not supposed to see and expose only

those features which are necessary. For example, when we make a call on our smartphone, we need to dial

the number or select the contact to call and talk. Smartphone provides the necessary features to do that

exactly. This is encapsulation.

3. Please refer to pages 61and 62.

4. Arithmetic Operators: Arithmetic operators perform arithmetic operations on the values. These operators

return the type of values which they are working upon. For example, 10 + 3.2 will return 13.2 which is float

type or double type while 10 + 3 will return numeric or integer value. Addition operator + adds the two

values while % (modulus) operator returns the remainder of the division fir example, 13/3 will return 1.

Relational Operators: Relational or comparison operators compare two operands and return true or false. For

example, < (smaller than) operator will return true if first value is smaller or less than the second. If variable

a has value 10 then a<20 will return true. >= (greater than or equal to) operator will return true if first value

is equal or more than the second. If variable a has value 10 then a>=20 will return false while a>=5 will

return true.

5. main() function holds the arguments passed to it in a String type of array by some name. Array is a set of

same type of values in a sequence starting from position 0. For example,

public static void main(String argv[])

{

System.out.println(argv[0]) //displays first argument

System.out.println(argv[3]) //displays fourth argument

}

Chapter 6 – Program Coding - 2 A. Choose the correct answer.

1. c 2. a 3. b 4. d 5. a

B. Fill in the blanks.

C. Tick (√) the correct statement and cross (×) out the wrong one.

1. True (√) 2. False (×) 3. True (√) 4. False (×) 5. False (×)

D. What will be the output of the following Java codes?

1. If number entered by the user is zero: It's zero

If number is divisible by 2: Even number

Otherwise: Odd number

2. 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21

Page 55: IT Skillz - IT-Skillz.pdf · IT Skillz series of books is the offering from Edusoft which is based on Skill Oriented Methodology. The series is designed with Skill as the key factor

IT SKILLZ

Page | 55

3. No output since there is no print statement encountered. E will match case ‘E’, then program control drops

down to case ‘I’ where break is encountered and program control exits switch-case block.

4. 4 5 6…….. infinitely (value of variable a is 25 and increasing thereafter by 1 so it will remain > 0 always

keeping the condition true always.)

5. Until 0 is entered by the user, the sum of all the numbers will be calculated by the loop and finally it will

be displayed.

E. Answer the following questions.

1. break terminates the loop or switch-case block and brings the control out of it. Any statements after the

block execute then. Any statements after break do not execute.

continue re-executes the loop from the beginning. It is useful when we need to run the loop again before it

completes all tasks within it.

2. do-while loop executes first and then condition is evaluated hence it runs at least once even if condition is

false even for the first time. while loop may execute zero times if the condition is false even for the first time

because in while, condition is evaluated before the loop can execute.

3. break brings the program control out of the switch block. If no break is used when a match is found then

all the other cases below the matched case will also execute. This may lead to undesired output sometimes.
