The Facility Questionnaire allows us to obtain a better understanding of your facility and the processes involved in your Energy Management System. This allows us to align auditors with the experience with your particular energy sources and processes. It also allows us to determine audit scope and durations. STEP 2: Sign the Proposal and Begin with a pre-assessment (if requested) – This allows us to assess the degree or completeness of your implementation and the maturity of your system for moving forward to the Certification Audit. The result of the pre-assessment would be a listing of the items needed to be developed and/or implemented prior to the Certification Audit. STEP 3: Conduct the Initial Certification Audit that includes – Stage 1 – Readiness Evaluation is focused on those key portions of your system that would prevent certification at the Stage 2 audit. We accomplish this by reviewing your documented procedures and coming on site to assess your implementation. For that reason, the Stage 1 audit is typically conducted four to six weeks prior to the Stage 2 audit. Stage 2 – Certification Audit provides a comprehensive audit of your Energy Management System and is required to cover all clauses of the ISO 50001 Standard and a representative sample of energy management processes across your facility. The purpose of this audit is to determine whether the Energy Management System is fully and effectively implemented at your facility. STEP 4: Non-Conformance Clearance (if needed) – If there are any non-conformances identified, your facility will have 90 days to provide root cause, corrective action, and verification to allow clearance of those non-conformances. STEP 5: Certification Issuance – If there are no non-conformances or once those non-conformances are cleared, the full audit package is reviewed for Certification, and if granted, a certificate is issued. STEP 6: Semi-annual /Annual Surveillance Cycles – Similar to the other ISO standards, the certification cycle for ISO 50001 is for a three year period. There are two years of surveillances (which can either be annual or semi-annual in nature) and then there is a complete re-certification audit in the third year for certificate re-issuance.

ISO 50001 ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CERTIFICATION PROCESS

ISO 50001 CERTIFICATION PROCESS STEPS

STEP 1: Complete a Facility Questionnaire – A facility questionnaire requests basic information about your facility and then specific information about your energy uses and consumptions.

STEP 3: Conduct the Initial Certification Audit that includes –

Stage 1 – Readiness Evaluation is focused on those key portions of your system that would prevent certification at the Stage 2 audit.
