Professional
Definition– A professional is a worker required to possess (擁有 ) a large
body of knowledge derived from extensive academic study (usually tertiary), with the training almost always formalized.
Professions are:– at least to a degree self-regulating (自制 )– control the training and evaluation processes that admit new
persons to the field– judging (判斷 ) whether the work done by their members is
up to standard.

Professionals usually:– have autonomy (自主 ) in the workplace– are expected to utilize their independent
judgment and professional ethics in carrying out their responsibilities.
This holds true even if they are employees instead of working on their own.

Typically a professional provides a service, in accordance with:– established (成立 ) protocols (守則 ) for licensing, – ethics, – procedures, standards of service and– training / certification.

A professional: An amateur (門外漢 ):
learns every aspect of the job. Skips ( 跳 過 ) the learning process whenever possible.
carefully discovers what is needed and wanted.
assumes what others need and want.
looks, speaks and dresses like a professional. is sloppy ( 懶散的 ) in appearance ( 外

does not let mistakes slide by. ignores or hides mistakes.

completes projects as soon as possible. is surrounded ( 包圍 ) by unfinished work and is piled on (堆上 ) unfinished work.
remains level-headed ( 冷 靜 ) and optimistic (樂觀 ).
gets upset and assumes the worst.
handles money and accounts very carefully.

persists ( 堅持 ) until the objective is achieved.

produces a high-quality product or service.
