These delights could all be at risk because of a small pest with a funny name – phylloxera. Phylloxera, an insect that attacks grapevine roots, could destroy our wine industry by killing our precious vines which includes some of the oldest grape vines in the world. If visiting from interstate wine regions, please clean your shoes and remove mud from your vehicle before coming to South Australia. Please don’t walk on vineyard soil and do not bring any plant material or soil from interstate. Stay on the roadways when visiting vineyards and don’t enter vineyards without permission. WELCOME TO THE BAROSSA Barossa truly is a gourmet lover’s paradise. Abundant seasonal produce, smoked and cured meats and hand-crafted cheeses are in plentiful supply. Visit Barossa and experience delicious wines, amazing food, heritage architecture and our welcoming community. Enjoy a wealth of diverse activities including festivals, special events, wine tasting, the arts, bushwalking, golf, cycling and shopping amid a vibrant Australian landscape of rolling hills, distinguished vineyards, towns and villages. Above we have listed tourism enterprises who will be pleased to look after you on your visit. On the reverse, we have a regional map that details the cellar doors and restaurants, so you know exactly where to go to taste the best wine and indulge in gourmet delights unique to the Barossa. We hope this Touring Map enhances your visit to Barossa: Australia’s global wine and food region. IN THE BEGINNING Settlements emerged in Barossa from 1839, and today it is a 1,970 square kilometre region that encompasses Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Barossa contains picturesque communities including Angaston, Lyndoch, Nuriootpa, Tanunda and Williamstown, and a collection of hamlets and villages including Bethany, Cockatoo Valley, Eden Valley, Greenock, Keyneton, Light Pass, Marananga and Seppeltsfield, Mount Pleasant, Penrice, Rowland Flat, Springton, Stockwell and Truro. This type of settlement is unique in Australia and is a wonderfully preserved enclave of British and Prussian heritage. Gawler, on the western boundary of Barossa, was among the first South Australian settlements to be proclaimed a township in 1857 and has since grown to become one of the Barossa’s major regional centres. Similarly, Kapunda, near the northern edge of Barossa was renowned as a copper mining centre and boasts a colourful history dating back to the 1850s. Each year, thousands of visitors come to the Barossa to sample and savour some of the world’s finest wines and to marvel at the beauty of the gnarled and twisted vines. These delights could all be at risk because of a small pest with a funny name – phylloxera.Phylloxera, an insect that attacks grapevine roots, could destroy our wine industry by killing our precious vines which includes some of the oldest grape vines in the world.

IN THE BEGINNINGSettlements emerged in Barossa from 1839, and today it is a 1,970 square kilometre region that encompasses Barossa Valley and Eden Valley.

FAMILY FRIENDLY BAROSSAWe have indicated the tourism operators in the Barossa who provide family friendly services/activities by placing a icon next to their listings. Please contact the individual businesses concerned for information regarding theirfamily friendly offering.
