Get Inspired. Change Your Life!
I AM AN IRONMAN!On October 8th, 2011, I had the opportunity to
compete in the Ford Ironman World Championship atKona. This race was comprised of a 2.4 mile swim, 112mile bike, and 26.2 mile run. Prior to the race, I was
letting my emotions take control of me. I had toconstantly remind myself to “BE TARA” and that I coulddo it! One of the best parts of the Ironman experiencewas when I turned onto Ali’i drive and saw the finish;this was the moment that I have been training for.
There are no words to express the sense of accomplishment and just how proud I was of myself - Ifinally had the faith in myself to go out there and obtain
my wildest dreams. This is now my lifestyle – tochallenge myself, to try new things, to give others asense of hope, and to smile in the face of adversity.

Take today to reflect on the past and plan for your future. Your pastis over and today is your chance to start fresh. Take today and startmaking decisions that you are proud of. No matter what, believe in
yourself. You can do anything if you believe you can.
Inspiration Corner – Pilot Bobby Bonham
My life changed, forever, the day I could not put on a pair of size 38 pants bought just 6 months before. I got on a scale
and...265. WHAT!? What had I done! I was an athlete, smart, for
crying out loud and knew better! Right? I found a rock outcropping,
sat, stared at a mountain and began to sort myself out. My health andmental wellbeing were going to the top of the list from then on! I got
up, took a deep breath, knowing it would be hard, dusted off andhaven’t stopped since. That was three years ago..When I began this
journey to save my life, I was inspired by a number of stories, many
on the show The Biggest Loser. In particular, I identified with Tara
Costa. I found strength and courage I did not know was in me, likeTara. I ended up surprising and inspiring myself, as a result. My
trainer, Nate Whitman knew how to push me to give my best yet, atthe same time, feel a sense of accomplishment with many meaningful
milestones along the way. Tara, Nate and myself drove me to suc-ceed and still do. Today, my head is in a much better place. As an air-
line pilot, the busy and somewhat irregular travel schedule was andremains a daunting challenge. I have had to plan ahead, make and
take many meals along and learn to find the time for a workout withminimal equipment or space. I'm 6' 2"and now weigh 190 pounds,
am an avid CrossFitter, stronger than ever, have 112/70BP @ 60bpm, perfect blood composition, the bone density of a 22 year old athlete
and fat composition below 20% . -Bobby Bonham

Tara’s Tips for October
This is one of the hardest times of year for most individualsregarding food consumption. Halloween is right around thecorner then followed by Thanksgiving, Hanukah, Christmas, and New Year’s. The holidays are hard for weight loss butbelow are a few ways to avoid the Halloween pitfalls!
Access Leads to Excess: Only buy Halloween candy the daybefore Halloween and buy something you hate. Access leadsto excess and if you have it in the house you are settingyourself up for temptation. Don’t do that to yourself! It is crueland unusual punishment! On the day after Halloween, bringthe leftover candy to a friends house and make their day. If they don’t want it, just get rid of it. You will be happy that youdid.
Walk it off: Don’t sit in your car while trick -or-treating and letyour kids do all the walking. Walk around with them! A causalstroll can burn approximately 150 calories!
Eat before you leave: If you fill up on a healthy lunch/dinner before youleave, your chances of snacking on candy are decreased significantly!
Give out something other than candy: Take the initiative and hand outsomething other than junk food. Go to the local dollar store and buybubbles or pencils! Start a trend and give out something fun or healthy!
Limit your kids intake: One night of letting your kids have some candy is notbad, but do not let them continually chow down. Why not let your children pick one of their favorite activities to do as a trade-off? This can help them with their
negotiation skills :).
