Help Needed! Dee Haak is taking her vacation from July 6-26 and would like to have someone cover for her as secretary while she is gone. If you are interested, please let her know at 815-397-2410. Schedules Both the June and July schedules for greeters, ushers and nursery are included in this issue. Please review them and if you have any conflicts with your schedule make arrangements to trade. Please let Dee know about any changes. Food Pantry Collection Sunday June 7 is our monthly food pantry collection for area food pantries. This month’s collection is for Lifeline in Oregon. They are in need of Jello, peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, canned soup and small bars of soap. Please place monetary or food donations in the grocery carts in the church foyer. Work Camp The work camp mission team is planning to return to Mary House near Oxford Wisconsin this year. They are planning to be there the week of June 7-13. If you are not able to make it for the whole week, it is close enough to come up for a day or two. Since opening their doors in the fall of 1989, Mary house has served families visiting inmates at the federal prison at Oxford, Wisconsin. They've provided transportation, meals, overnight lodging and, perhaps most important, a family atmosphere of respect and fellowship. Mary House is staffed completely by volunteers. Please see the “to-do” list in this issue of the Rays for possible projects. For more information and details contact, Dean Schreurs 815-874-2129 or 779-423-4478 Ladies Aid The Ladies Aid Missionary Society usually meets the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 P.M. at the church. There is a Bible Study, devotions, refreshments and each member brings a scripture verse for “roll call” relating to a certain topic. Ladies Aid takes an offering to support various ministries throughout the community, denomination and the world. They also serve luncheons when requested by family members at the time of funerals in the church. Do you have a couple hours to give one afternoon a month? Age doesn’t matter; this ministry is open to all women of the church. This month’s meeting is Wednesday, June 10 at 1:00 P.M. (please note date change). Lorna Snapp will lead the devotions. Beryl Blumeyer is the hostess. Roll call will be a Scripture verse on “Unbelief”. All Ladies are invited to listen to Bonnie Mueller as she tells of her travels on the Baltic Sea and enjoy fellowship together over appetizers. There is a signup sheet in the Narthex.

Candidate Visit The search team has exciting news! We have agreed, along with the consistory, to invite Daniel Roy Svendsen to come to Ebenezer as a candidate for pastor. He and his wife, Michelle, and newborn daughter, Sophia, will be visiting June 13 & 14. We have tried to create a schedule for June 14, although times may vary. His resume is included in this Newsletter. Please review and pray about it in the weeks leading up to the visit. Sunday, June 14 9 – 9:45 am – Sunday School 10 – 11:15 – Church service with Dan presenting the sermon 11:30 – Potluck – Table service and beverages will be provided. Please bring a dish or two to pass (enough to feed your family). 12:30 – Question and answer time, congregation can ask Dan questions as well as Dan asking questions of the congregation 2:30 – Congregation will vote whether to call Dan Svendsen as pastor 2:45 – Consistory will make their final decision If you have any questions, please ask a search team member.

Grill 'n Chill will be starting June 17th and will be the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays through July & August alternating between Reecher's and Welty's. Please watch the bulletin for more details.

Christian Fellowshipers Christian Fellowshipers is a time for anyone over the age of fifty to get together for Christian fellowship and fun. They meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at noon for a potluck meal. Each month a designated host and/or hostess plan and serve the event. There is scripture reading and prayer. Outings to local restaurants or other activities are scheduled. A free will offering is taken for missions. If you are fifty or over you are invited to the meeting on Thursday, June 18 at noon; please bring a dish to pass. Lohmans are the hosts this month. Naomi Ruth Naomi Ruth is a women’s Bible study that meets at the church. Please note there is a new time and day for Naomi Ruth - they are now meeting on third Monday of the month at 10:00 AM Each member takes turns leading the Bible Study. This group is open to all women of the church. Are you looking for a Ladies Bible Study? Come join Naomi Ruth on Monday, June 29 at 10:00 A.M. for brunch at a nearby restaurant.

The annual church picnic will be held at King's Camp (9300 Lindenwood Road in Chana) on June 28. The worship service will begin at 10:30 A.M. This will be followed by a potluck meal. There will also be an early worship service at the church at 9:00 A.M. for those who cannot make it to King's Camp. There will be no Sunday School on this day.

What is a dad?

A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again. A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt. A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail. —Unknown

WORK OPPORTUNITIES FROM CASSANDRA AT MARY HOUSE

• I have chains and connectors but haven't fixed those swings. It means ensuring the frame is still sturdy and installing new eyes and swings if it is.

• I could see about getting some 8 foot lengths to cut up for firewood next year so cutting and splitting that would be a possibility.

• The newer of the 2 garages needs to be painted and re-shingled -- I am not positive but I think there is just one layer on it so we might be able to just go over the existing ones It is a very low pitch and is easy to walk around on, and we could set up the square scaffolding to make it easier.

• The garage also needs repairs to the siding at the bottom in the back and it would be

good to paint it as it's that glorified cardboard that really needs to be kept painted. The basketball hoop should come down and there might be some repair needed behind it.

• The older garage is just partially sided. One side is more or less done but on the back

the siding from a dumpster and put up kind of temporarily -- it doesn't match anything -- so we could finish siding that with vinyl similar to the house, and replace the side door which is completely falling apart.

• I made some headway with moving dirt around in the fall but there is still a problem with

the yard being high and not allowing drainage on the north side. Maybe we could rent a bobcat if there is someone who is good with them.

• There are a couple of lower roof edges that should have gutters put up on them that

could be done from just a step ladder.

• There will always be grass to mow - especially in early summer, flower beds to take care of, etc.

• I got the paint purchased, but it got cold early and I didn’t get it up on the roofs, so there

are some lower parts of the metal roof that are not too bad to do from a hooked ladder. On the higher parts, maybe I could schedule a couple days off and do some of that while you are here and you could help me with moving ladders and planks around.

• AND, as you pointed out, there is plenty to do in that outbuilding/future office which is

indoors so might be good if it rains. There is a new wrinkle out there with the floor needing to be taken up and flattened out some in the middle, and there are the rest of the rafters to do from inside. If you're interested in it I can send you some pictures.

• If you decide to do a few days at a number of places you could all stay here at night for

the week if you want, if you think you would fit --

• You are right about the big overall clean and windows, and the garage painting and mowing might also be pretty easy for people who don't want to build anything.
