They are requesting all budget requests be presented to the elders by Sunday, October 23 in advance of the Leadership Retreat on October 28 & 29. Although not every financial request may be approved, you are encouraged to be prayerful, visionary and bold in your plans for the future of Park Avenue. Please include with your request as much information as possible as to the purpose of the request and how it fits in with the mission of the church. Each Deacon Team is being asked to formulate a budget, so please submit your request to one of the Deacons serving in the ministry that oversees your request. If you have a question about what Deacon to contact, call Todd or Basil at the church office and they will direct you to the proper Deacon. We are looking forward to another great year of service here Please be in prayer for the Leadership Retreat of our elders and ministers on October 27-29. This is a time of reflecting on the past year and planning, dreaming, praying for 2017. We believe it is of the utmost importance to put our plans before the Lord and make sure they are His plans and are blessed by Him. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” The Lord says in Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.” God has GOOD PLANS for this body of believers at Park Avenue, but we must make sure we are following His will, and not our own. We can make plans and fill our time with many things, at the same time be far from where the Lord intends us to be. I appreciate our elders and their dedication to prayerfully consider each ministry, each leader, each member of this church. We will be lifting up the prayer needs of this family multiple times during our retreat. Ask that the Holy Spirit illuminate our retreat, our conversations, our fellowship, our every word. The future of Park Avenue is in the hands of our awesome God. We set our eyes upon Him and we ask His guidance each step of the way...to Him be the glory! Small Group Normal small groups resume this evening. Wednesday Nights The youth planning team and I have been dreaming a bit and I would like to invite you to participate in our Wednesday night Bible class. There could be any number of reasons you might think you don’t want to get involved or would be unqualified. I guarantee you I have a response for every reason you have to not jump in with our students at church. We would love to get to a point where we had at least two more adults (maybe a married couple, hint hint) regularly attend- ing class. They would be committed for a month of helping out and getting to know our students better. Please consider this especially if you have students in the youth group. Remember, youth ministry is a partnership! Help me help you and our families. Fall Retreat Sign ups are officially available now in the youth commons for our annual fall retreat. The dates are December 2nd through the 4th as has been our usual weekend the past few years. Any parents or adults who would enjoy spending the weekend with our group please let me know! This is a great way to get to know our group without having too much responsibility for planning or teaching. We are look- ing forward to retreating down in Dallas. Children’s Ministry Rachel’s Review at Park Avenue. We are so blessed with all the ministry being carried out by the members of this church. Pantry We are in need of Spaghetti Sauce, Dry Cereal, Tuna Helper, Mac & Cheese, Crackers & Evaporated Milk. Please leave your items outside the pantry door. “SILENCING OF GOD” The Pottsboro Church of Christ will host the video “The Silencing of God” on Monday, October 17 at 7:00pm. This 45 minute documen- tary traces the writing of the Consti- tution and the Bill of Rights and how our founding Fathers relied on God and his guidance. Admission is free and no collection will be taken. Refreshments will be served following the presentation. Operation Christmas Child Select a shoebox from the front of the auditorium and return it filled by no later than October 30. Filled boxes can be placed under the coatracks in the main hallways. Flight 56 Flight 56 will meet tonight from 6-8 PM in the Ark. A light snack will be provided. Our Community Fall Festival will be held in the Family Life Center on Sunday, October 30 from 5-7 PM.

A Beginner's Guide to God (John 17)

Today’s Main Idea—Unity Builders (Philippians 2)

Consider others better than yourself. Look not only to your interests but to the interests of

others. Work out your own salvation.

Sermon Notes

Good morning and wel-come to our worship service this morning. Today we will continue

our journey through Jesus’ prayer in John 17 in the series I’m calling, A Beginner’s Guide to God: Who He is and What He Wants.

Last week we considered the importance of unity in the life of a church. Today we will look at “Unity Builders” - attitudes we are called to have that promote unity within the church. We will primarily be looking at Philippians 2 where Paul instructs the Christians there on unity.

We are always aware of actions that we can take to promote a spirit of growth and friendliness here at Park Avenue and one way we can all help is to fill up the pews before we start filling up the chairs at the back of the Worship Center. Having the chairs available makes it much easier for late-comers or guests to easily find a seat rather than having to walk up front to find a seat in the

We are honored to have you with us this morning. A warm welcome to all our members — how good and pleasant it is for us to worship together! And a special welcome to our guests! Please take a few minutes to visit with us

after services. Stop by the welcome centers in the main hallways for more information and a free gift from us. Let us know how we can serve you.

pews. Why not make it your habit to take up a pew rather than a chair? A simple way we all can help out!

We still have some Operation Christmas Child boxes up at the front of the Worship Center. If you haven't picked one up, please con-sider joining us in this ministry of sharing the good news of Jesus with children around the world. Remind-er, PA will pay for the postage as part of our grace offering last Spring.
