pet adoption smartphone applicationINTRODUCTIONBy adopting pets via smartphones or any smart technology devices, users are able to view stray cats or dogs and puppies that the animal shelter is taking care of at any time any place and any where. This application will store an user personalization database and recommend pets that will best fit the users interest and characterstics which the users can either choose to adopt, donate or keep browsing for more pets that are available. With this smartphone application, it reduces the amount of homeless animals on the streets efficiently by providing them shelter through convenience in adoption while also allow others to realise the existence of overcrowded animals in animal shelter and improving it with the donations received.3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision To reduce the number of homeless animals by providing convenience for adoption through the use of an online application on a technology device.3.2 Industry Analysis: Pet Adoption Application IndustryIndustry: Pet Adoption Application Industry. This industry will focus on reducing the overcrowded animal shelter by allowing users to browse animals available for adoption with just the use of an smart technology device.Force:High/Low:Justification:

Buyer power:LowBuyers will be the people who are interested in adopting a pet. Although there are quite a few online websites set up that has pet available for adoption, adopting a pet through a smartphone adoption application on technology devices is still in the making process. (Bay of Plenty Times, 2010)

Supplier power:High The supplier power will be considered as low as it is not hard to find software developers or designers nowadays.

Threat of new entrants:HighAs this industry of business is not hard to enter, the threat of new entrants will be high. This is due to the idea of first mover advantage, as others realise how this smartphone application industry is new, the entry barrier will be low.

Threat of substitutes:HighThere are quite a few of alternatives when it comes to pet adoption. Buyers will have the options of either purchasing a specific pet they like through a walk-in in pet shops, or choosing to buy from friends and family. They could also choose to take home any animals that they see on the street. (Northshore Animal League America, 2014)

Rivalry among existing competitors:LowAs this industry is focusing on adoption online through an application on smart phone devices, the rivalry among existing competitors is low because there are only online websites that allows users to adopt online but not through an application with smartphones. (SPCA Canterbury, 2013)

Overall attractiveness of the industry: This industry is believed to be highly attractive as we have a first-mover advantage due to the fact that there has not been any online adoption application developed within New Zealand yet, where people will be more willing to try out this new smartphone application.

3.3 Customers and Their NeedsOur customers will be the people who are interested in pet adoption through this smartphone application that we provide. Profit will come from the adoption fee each adoption incurred by the customers who uses this application. This application aims to reduce the adoption process for people who are seeking for fast and convenience in terms of adopting a pet. Users will download the application from either android or apple market for free but fees will be charged once they decide to proceed in adopting a pet.3.4 The Product and ServiceOur service is to provide an application that allows people to adopt pets easily online through the touch of a smart technology device. This application will improve the adoption process by reducing the time it takes for those who are not willing to spend time and effort on the paperwork required. More varieties of pets are also available now that most of the animal shelter will work together and using the same database to record each animals they take in the shelter. This will reduce the number of homeless animals as the shelter will have more space to take in more animals when each adoption is taken place.3.5 Suppliers and PartnersIn order to provide this service as an online application, we will need a software developer to create this application before we are able to launch it onto the market place. An application designer is also needed to complete the application as not all developer are able to design it too. These will be the two main suppliers that we need for our application. On the other hand, our partners will be any SPCA or animal shelters where they will be updating us regularly on the animals available each time an animal is taken in. Another partner for our service will be the courier company where a specialised equipped vehicle is needed to deliver the pets. A courier company is needed as our vision is to provide further convenience for people to adopt the pets when our service is able to deliver the pets to the customers doors.3.6 Strategy: Cost LeadershipAs an online smartphone application will not need a huge start up cost to create, our service will be aiming at a broad market where anyone from any age is able to download the application from the market online. Although the download cost will be free to the users, they are still required to pay an adoption fee if they were to make an adoption on the pets they want. If adoption was not successful, no cost will be taken place. The overall strategy is therefore Cost Leadership.

3.7 Value Chain Activity: Deliver the product or service The most important value chain activity for this business is Deliver the product or service. We are aiming to deliver an adoption service through the use of an smartphone application online. This application will be able to provide a service to any customers who are interested in adopting a pet by improving the adoption process. It will also allow easy access to the customers in order to view the animals that are up for adoption at anytime rather than heading down to an animal shelter personally. The service will also include delivery of the pets to the customers doorstep to improve convenience for our customers.3.8 Business Processes3.8.1. recommendation management process The users will be required to fill in details about themselves when they first sign up in order for the system to create a user profile based on their characteristics. This process will then find similarities of the users with every single animals that has been updated onto the database from the animal shelter regularly and then recommend it to the users. The process will also make recommendation based on their previous adoption or recent search keywords on characteristics of the pets.

3.8.2. adoption management process When the user log in, they will have a choice of searching for their ideal pets on the search bar based on characteristics such as color of the pets, the pets species and the type of pets they want etc. This process will allow users to make an adoption on the pet once they have found a good match to their ideal pets. From this, the process will continue with sending the receipt to the customers and allowing them to pay online in order to complete the adoption process. It will also record the pet the users have adopted each time in order for the system to recommend other pets to them next time they log in again.

Characteristics recognition system This system will recognize the similarities between both the pets and users database and will then recommend pets that best fits the users according to their characteristics profile when they first set up the account. It will regularly updates the users with new recommendation each time a new pet is taken in at the animal shelter.3.10.2. pet ordering system Users will be ordering the pets through this system. Once they have searched for an ideal pet or is happy to adopt the ones that was recommended to them, the system will place an order down at the animal shelter or SPCA and proceed with adoption. The system will also ensure that the application is showing pets that are available in stock for the users, from the moment they are taken in and when they have been adopted and sent out to deliver to their new house. 3.10.3.
