SIA National Safety Convention 2016 Introduction
Safety Instituteof Australia Ltd
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Safety Institute of Australia (SIA), I’m honoured to welcome you to the 2016 SIA National Safety Convention. Over the years, this annual event has become a staple in the calendar for all people who take an interest in workplace health. It brings together the entire health and safety profession, from the practitioners and professionals on the ground to a range of key stakeholders, including regulators, unions, and business leaders.
This year, the Convention program explores the timely theme of Disruptive Safety. We have assembled some of the best national and international speakers to share their insights and talk about new ideas and leadership. Keynotes will explore a range of thought-provoking subjects, including innovation, the future of work, disruptive leadership, and OHS regulation in a disruptive environment.
Are there opportunities to constructively disrupt the status quo in workplace health and safety at company or systemic level in Australia? This year’s National Safety Convention will certainly prompt delegates to consider, discuss and demystify the spectre of disruption.
The convention includes a two day conference program, which is bookended by a series of events, including the OHS Education Awards, the annual Eric Wigglesworth Memorial Lecture, an annual SIA College of Fellows meeting, the conference dinner, the SIA Annual General Meeting, an OHS Leaders & CEOs Breakfast, and the inaugural Women in Safety Forum.
We trust that you will enjoy this quintessential gathering of Australia’s national Health & Safety community.
Warm Regards,
David Clarke CEO, Safety Institute of Australia

An understanding of work and all its parameters and perspectives is important for OHS Professionals to enable them to integrate their advice into the management and organisation of work. However, work and what constitutes a workplace, the technology associated with work and the organisation of work are all changing at a rapid pace, as are the methods of sharing information and engaging. Such changes will continue to occur at a rapid rate as they enable businesses to innovate. OHS Professionals must understand the dynamics of the change and how their role needs to change. DISRUPTIVE LEADERSHIP
