Socialists, on the other hand, claimed that businesses should belong to all the people and the government should directly regulate businesses. Karl Marx argued for an extreme form of socialism called communism in his book The Communist Manifesto. Marx argued that history was a class struggle between wealthy capitalists and the proletariat (working class). He felt that the proletariat would rise up in a violent revolution and create a classless society where wealth was distributed equally.
