Career Transition Partnership (CTP)

• Graduated Resettlement Time (GRT)

Allows you to take a quantity of resettlement time which is commensurate with your length of service. For example, 35 days are available for those who have served 16 years.

Enhanced Learning Credits (ELCAS 1527)

• ELC Awards are available in two “tiers”: the “Lower Tier” level of up to £1000 per annum for those with four or more eligible years’ service; and the “Upper Tier” level of up to £2000 per annum for those with eight or more years’ eligible service. Providing they meet all criteria, personnel may make ELC claims in up to three separate financial years (which need not be consecutive and may

be a combination of lower tier and upper tier funds) either while in service or for up to ten years after leaving.

• ELC funds may be directed at one learning purpose (such as successive years’ study towards a particular qualification) or different purposes in each of the three years.

Standard Learning Credits (SLC Scheme)

• The SLC Scheme allows personnel to obtain financial assistance for learning costs. You are able to claim 80% of your course fees up to a maximum of £175 per Financial Year.

• To qualify for SLC funding, the course of study must lead to a nationally recognised qualification, have substantial developmental value and directly benefit the Service. Most types of learning provision, including that which is based on a Distance Learning Package are eligible for funding under the Scheme.

Qualification details:The purpose of the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education & Training (QCF) * course is to provide individuals with an introduction to teaching and training adult learners.

The Award is for new entrants who do not have prior teaching experience or qualifications and especially suits those individuals who are already working within their chosen environment and are wishing to gain official qualifications.

Employers in certain sectors will require individuals to have gained this qualification prior to offering employment.

Entry requirements:

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification; however, a good standard of literacy is required.

It will ideally suit those who have the potential to study at this level, which has the same level of demand as that of study for A-levels.

*From September 2013 the Level 3 Award in Teaching & Education (QCF) replaced the PTLLS qualification.

Delivery methods:

Qualification details:The Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training (QCF)* qualification develops practical teaching skills and, through the varied choice of optional units available prepares teachers to work in a wide range of contexts.

This qualification is suitable for those candidates who are currently teaching and want to have their experience and practice accredited or those who are not currently teaching but can meet the minimum teaching practice requirement of 30 hours.

Physical Intervention Trainers Award (QCF)

City & Guilds Level 3

Qualification details:Physical intervention skills may be required in some work environments to manage challenging behaviour safely. Depending on the risks identified within the workplace this can involve anything from avoidance to non-pain disengagement skills through to rescue, escorting and holding skills.

Since June 2010, physical intervention skills have been part of the door supervisor licence linked qualifications. Trainers offering this qualification must have completed this programme.

This course is intended for trainers who wish to offer physical intervention skills training to individuals or who wish to train other training providers; it is not intended for licence applicants.

Physical Intervention Trainers Pack – HZL will also provide all attendees on the course with a Level 2 Physical Intervention Trainers Pack to enable you to deliver the Level 2 modules.

The City & Guilds Level 3 QCF Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) is the name given to the principle assessor qualification that has replaced the NVQ Assessor Awards A1 & A2 and D Units 32 & 33 (also referred to as a TAQA Award).

The City & Guilds Level 3 QCF Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is delivered as classroom and observation based package.

• Level 3 Award, Assessing Vocational Achievement. (A two unit Award for practitioners who want to assess competence in First Aid in the workplace)

The course is run over an 8 day period (plus self-study and project work).

Security Officer Course (Level 2) (QCF)

The recognised Licence to Practice in the Security Industry qualification consists of three units:

Door Supervision Course (Level 2) (QCF)

Individuals wishing to complete the Door Supervisor module must first complete the recognised Licence to Practice in the Security Industry core module which consists of four units:

Door Supervisor Upskill Course (QCF)

Door Supervisors who are due to renew their badge after Feb 2014 have to complete the Door Supervisor Upskill course which consists of four units:

• Physical Intervention skills

• First Aid awareness

• Considerations when dealing with 14–18 year olds

• Terrorist threat awareness

CCTV Operatives Course (Level 2) (QCF)

The recognised Licence to Practice in the Security Industry qualification consists of three units:

• Core module of Working Within the Security Industry

• Roles & Responsibilities of a CCTV Operator

• Practical use of the system and assessment

The duration of the Security Courses is 30 hours over a 4 day period.

On successful completion individuals can apply for their Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence.

The duration of the Door Supervisor Upskill Course is 1 day.

This course offers Close Protection for both service users and those already operating within the Private Security industry. The course combines both theoretical and practical training with on-going assessment and culminates in two fully operational exercises conducted in the public domain.

• Full SIA requirements met

• Trainers include operational CPO’s from the hostile, military and executive close protection sectors

• All equipment provided (excluding laptops)

• On successfully completing the course you will be able to apply for your SIA Close Protection Licence

The duration of the Close Protection course is either:

• an intensive 15 day course (non-residential)

• or on a modular basis (1-6 modules) over a period of six weeks (Friday pm until Sunday pm, non-residential)

The Maritime Security Operative (MSO) Course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of ex-service and police personnel who are looking to gain entry into the private maritime security industry.

On successfully passing the MSO course candidates will be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of maritime security along with a recognised industry award which will increase their chances of employment within their chosen work environment.

Candidates who successfully pass the MSO course will be exempt from having to gain a Personnel Designated for Security Duties (PDSD) certificate.

Units covered:

1. Understand the Maritime Security Industry

2. Understand Maritime Pre-Deployment Planning and Procedures

3. Understand Maritime Security Operating Procedures

4. Understand Maritime Incident Management and Post Operational Procedures

Candidates will be assessed for practical and theoretical understanding and the final assessment will culminate with an interactive table top exercise and practical exercise.

3 Day First Aid at Work (FAW) Course (QCF)

A First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification will make a positive contribution to the safety of your workplace. After qualifying in First Aid at Work (FAW) you’ll have the essential skills to handle any First Aid situation, from

minor slips and trips to the most serious of incidents.

Units include:

• Common fears of First Aid

• Primary survey

• Secondary survey

• Recovery position

• Heart conditions

• CPR

• Serious bleeding

• Spinal injury

• Wounds and dressings

2 Day First Aid at Work Re-qualifier Course (FAWR) (QCF)

This course is for those candidates who hold a FAW Certificate that is about to expire. Your FAW Certificate is valid for 3 years and you must re-qualify beforehand if you want to avoid having to do the full course again.

Units include:

• Managing the incident

• Priorities of First Aid

• CPR

• Primary survey

• Secondary survey

• Blood loss and treating bleeding

• Treatment of shock

• Head injuries

• General discussion on work place injuries

Assessment is carried out by written theory tests and practical assessments.

After successful completion of the FAW and FAWR courses and assessments, students will be awarded the Qualsafe approved First Aid at Work Certificate which is valid for 3 years.

FIRST AID - Level 2 QCF - Awarding Body Qualsafe

1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course (QCF)

This course covers the skills required by a First Aider in the modern workplace and will equip you with the knowledge to deal with First Aid emergencies.

Units include:

• understand the role of the First Aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions

• understand the importance of basic hygiene in First Aid procedures

• assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency

• administer First Aid to a casualty who is unconscious and / or in seizure

• administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation

• administer First Aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and / or in shock

• administer First Aid to a casualty who is choking

• provide appropriate First Aid for minor injuries

Continuous assessment is used to evaluate the candidates and there is no final practical assessment.

4 Hour Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Course

This course covers the theory and practical procedures for CPR and use of an AED. It also covers the importance and benefits of early intervention and emergency treatment.

Units include:

• Treatment of an unconscious casualty

• CPR

• Heart attacks

• Introduction to the AED

• Operating the AED

• AED Health & Safety issues

Continuous assessment is used to evaluate the candidates and there is no final practical assessment.

No previous First Aid knowledge is required to attend an AED course.

After successful completion of the EFAW course and assessment, students will be awarded the Qualsafe approved First Aid at Work Certificate which is valid for 3 years.

Qualification details:The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (QCF) is aimed at those individuals who already are, or intend to be, food handlers working within the catering industry.

It will provide learners with the knowledge of basic food safety practices that are essential within the catering industry as well as identifying the hazards and risks to food safety from both preparation and storage procedures to those presented by personnel when handling food.

Learners gaining this qualification will be able to identify how to implement changes in their food handling practices in order to improve the safety of their catering services and also be in line with industry and regulatory standards.

• Understand the importance of keeping him / herself clean and hygienic
