Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, Let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy: O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

L: May God open our mouths and our hearts P: Let us worship God!

Gathering Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing Robert Robinson Sung to NETTLETON

Solo: Come, Thou Fount of Ev’ry blessing; Tune my heart to sing Your grace; Streams of mercy; Never ceasing; Call for songs of loudest praise; Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.

Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it mount of God's redeeming love.

ALL: Here I raise my Ebenezer; Hither by Your help I've come; And I hope, by Your good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, binds me with His precious love.

Call to Worship adapted from Psalm 78

L: We gather together to remember, to again tell the wonderful stories of our God — stories we have heard many times, passed down from generation to generation;

stories of faithfulness and love, of mercy and compassion, of miracles and new life.

ALL: We tell these stories over and over so that we don’t forget. We tell these stories to remember who we are — people of God.

We tell these stories so that our children and our children’s children can also come to know and love the God we serve. Let’s worship together!

Response There Is A Place Liam Lawton

Solo: There's a time for remembering, a time to recall; The trials and the triumphs, the fears and the falls. There's a time to be grateful for moments so blest,

The jewels of our memory where love is our guest.

There is gold that is gleaming in a past we once knew; In our tears and our laughter, 'twas love brought us through. In our mem’ry we traveled where sunlight has kissed,

This carries us onward from places we miss. (All Sing the Refrain Below)

Solo: There's a promise of God that is written in the stars, For all who may travel, no matter how far. God will be your companion, each journey you make

In the light of your mem’rys, to lighten your way. (To refrain)

Solo: In the quiet of the evening, at the close of the day, We will rest on the journey, to the Lord we shall pray. May we thank God for mem’ry, for moments we've shared,

As we walk to tomorrow, close by us You'll stay. (To refrain)

Hebrew Wisdom Literature Joshua 4:1-9 Common English Bible

4 When the entire nation had finished crossing over the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua, 2 “Pick twelve men from the people, one man per tribe. 3 Command them, ‘Pick up twelve stones from right here in the middle of the Jordan, where the feet of the priests had been firmly planted. Bring them across with you and put them down in the camp where you are staying tonight.’”

4 Joshua called for the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one man per tribe. 5 Joshua said to them, “Cross over into the middle of the Jordan, up to the LORD your God’s chest. Each of you, lift up a stone on his shoulder to match the number of the tribes of the Israelites. 6 This will be a symbol among you. In the future your children may ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ 7 Then you will tell them that the water of the Jordan was cut off before the LORD’s covenant chest. When it crossed over the Jordan, the water of the Jordan was cut off. These stones will be an enduring memorial for the Israelites.”

8 The Israelites did exactly what Joshua ordered. They lifted twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, matching the number of the tribes of the Israelites, exactly as the LORD had said to Joshua. They brought them over to the camp and put them down there. 9 Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan where the feet of the priests had stood while carrying the covenant chest. They are still there today.

L: The Word of the Lord P: Thanks be to God!

Epistle Lesson 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 Common English Bible

23 I received a tradition from the Lord, which I also handed on to you: on the night on which he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took bread. 24 After giving thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this to remember me.” 25 He did the same thing with the cup, after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Every time you drink it, do this to remember me.” 26 Every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you broadcast the death of the Lord until he comes.

L: The Word of the Lord P: Thanks be to God!

Sermon Hope Filled Memory David W. Key, Sr.

Response Song For The Hopeful Harry Connick, Jr.

People with hope have a special prayer, A louder drum, A brighter flare. This is a song for the hopeful. May God hear it sung.

People with faith Are the lucky kind. They'll be the ones With peace of mind. This is a song for the faithful. May God hear it sung.

There's a song for the doubtful. There's a song for the lost. There's a song for the desert; Barren, but crossed.

But for those who are strong of spirit, Maybe they don't need to hear it. But still, a song for them. A simple song for them.

Nothing can shade A seasoned soul. It's all the life That makes it whole. This is a song for the hopeful. This is a song for the faithful.

This is a song for the hopeful. May God hear it sung.

The Giving, Presentation and *Blessing of our Gifts

L: We give thanks for all that God has given us. P: May God bless all that we offer: our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service.

*Passing of the Peace L: The Lord be with you! P: And also with you! Greet one another with signs of peace.

*Song of Fellowship Give Thanks Don Moen

~ A Litany For Memorial Day ~ The Armed Forces Chaplains' Board, Washington, D.C.

L: Let us give thanks to God for the land of our birth with all its chartered liberties. For all the wonder of our country's story: P: We give God thanks.

L: For leaders in nation and state, and for those who in days past and in these present times have labored for the commonwealth: P: We give God thanks.

L: For those who in all times and places have been true and brave, and in common ways have lived upright lives: P: We give God thanks.

L: For those who served their country in its hour of need, and especially for those who gave even their lives in that service: P: We give God thanks.

ALL: Almighty God and most merciful Creator, as we remember these Your servants, remembering with gratitude their courage and strength, we hold

before You those who mourn them. As this day brings memories of those we have lost awhile, may it also bring consolation and the assurance that all are alive

now and forever in your living presence. AMEN.

Prayers of the People

~ Silent Prayer - Sharing of Requests ~ Pastoral Prayer - Lord’s Prayer ~

Response Precious Memories J. B. F. Wright

Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom,

And the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
