HOW TO SEW ON A BUTTON NANA’S WAY!By Carolyn Jenkins

HOW TO SEW ON A BUTTON
Sewing on a button requires 11 steps according to Nana!
FRIST STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
o Be creative! Select a suitable button for your garment or craft and thread that matches the button or not depending on creativity and style. Choose a good quality thread!
2ND STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
o Thread the needle:o Pull thread through the needle. Its best to
have an equal length of thread extending from both sides. Note: not too long as it make get knotted when sewing. Approx.: length of figure tip to elbow- double.
3RD STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTONTie a knot at the end of the thread. With doubled the thread, tie the ends together. Leave a long tail of thread.With Single thread, wrap thread around figure and roll it, it will knot.
Now we are ready to sew on a button.
5TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Push the threaded needle up through the fabric and through one hole in the button. This way knot is on back of fabric. Watch fingers, use thimble if desired to save finger tips!-nana’s tip. (Pic taken from Flickr)
6TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Push the needle down through the next hole and through the fabric. Pull the thread all the way through. I would go in an x pattern.- nana’s tip for strength!
7TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Bring the needle up through the first hole (for a 2-hole button) and pull the thread all the way through the fabric. Using the X pattern- from top to diagonal bottom then from bottom to diagonal to top. Use the X .
8TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Repeat the X sewing pattern enough times to make sure the button is secure. Pull on button to check how secure the button!!
9TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Now we get ready to Knot! On the last stitch, push the needle through the material, but not through a hole in the button.
10TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Pull thread through and make a loop, pull needle back through loop making a knot then make four or five back stitches ( go through thread on back that you have completed) to secure the thread
11TH STEP IN SEWING ON A BUTTON
Cut off the excess. Enjoy your new button!!
