Current Situation

SHRM

• Announced a new certification for the HR

Profession;

• Details about the new certification are limited;

• Stated that current HRCI credential holders will be

converted for free;

• Requirement that a current HRCI certificate

and an online tutorial will earn you the new

certification;

• Alleges that new certification is competency-

based and that current certifications do not

measure competence.

Current Situation

HRCI Independence

• For nearly 40 years, HRCI has been independent and free from influence;

• Our independence protects the integrity of our certifications;

• Proving “freedom from undue influence,” is a requirement for accreditation;

• HRCI has nothing to do with SHRM’s proposed certifications. We learned about

their plans on May 12th - the same day as others in the HR profession.

Current Situation

Competency

• Competencies are defined as the “Knowledge, skills and abilities required to

succeed in a job or role.” HRCI exams have always measured competence.

• PHR and SPHR exams are updated twice a year, all other exams are updated

annually, and all exams are based on input from thousands of practicing HR

professionals.

• Testing for universal competencies is an area of much debate and scrutiny.

• HRCI’s bodies of knowledge must be free of undue influence by a particular

organization. Thus, the use of one organization’s proprietary competency model

is inappropriate.

Current Situation

Automatic Transfers

• HRCI will continue to develop and administer our certification products.

• HRCI certifications are NOT transferable to any other organization.

• The only way to maintain your current certification and to utilize your letters is to

fulfill all recertification requirements through HRCI.

Current Situation

Together We Set The Standard.

• HRCI certifications are:

– Recognized as the Gold Standard;

– Highly relevant to the profession;

– Developed and regularly updated by leading HR professionals;

– Competency-based;

– Tested, proven, and accredited.

• You worked hard to earn your letters and they are valuable!

• Speak Up. Be Proud. Recertify!
